I'd imagine because "Quick Battle" was a hack in order to facilitate testing the core combat mechanics.

Now the rest of the game is in there and the core mechanics are pretty much locked down, when they made the new launcher it was deemed time for it to go.

It would be nice if a scenario quick battle option was there in the final game. It's a good way of testing maps out and runnign one offs.

Very good idea :)

There's a batch script we can use to force quick battles, which we'll provide if we do more community level testing.

The general feature was removed because I think it detracts from the game, and it won't be in the final game. It was just there for the early stages of development so people could poke about in combat to see how it worked.

sorry to see it go. I really got a kick out of zzz1010's maps, especially the aliens homage. It was nice to be able to play them as one offs.

Unless the new map editor has something in it, there's sometimes a big difference to how you think a map will look, and how well it actually plays. Quick battle was good for that sort of thing too.

I agree that map makers need some way to quickly and easily play their creations.

The test maps I have put together have all been tested using the quick battle function as it allows me to test things like submap tile drawing order, how suitable submaps are in their locations, and how view range works within the map amongst other things.

There are quite a few variables that really need a playtest to see how they work in a real game situation.

I imagine the devs still use a similar feature to test the maps they are generating for the beta.

Leaving it accessible, even in the original form without access to higher tech tiers, would be a useful resource to the modding community.

After all you don't need plasma weapons to walk round a map.

There's a big button on the level editor that displays a preview of the entire level now, which rather replaces any need for Quick Battle and saves an enormous amount of time all round.

That wouldn't show up any errors in placement, or differences between the placement of a damaged state compared to its default state and so on.

Being able to run around in your new map is a very useful thing.

Even if there is only the basic loadout of weapons to try damaging things with and no enemies.

As a tool it has its uses that I don't feel are entirely replicated in the preview function.

I also think the preview function is a fantastic addition though so would hate to see that go either :P

I am just hoping it stays available for the newer versions.

I have quite enjoyed playing with the map and submaps so hoping to continue post release.

Anything that makes that easier is good in my book :D

Obviously though Chris has to follow his own vision for the game as much as possible, if that doesn't include a version of the current quick battle mode then I won't complain.

Actually yes I will but only a bit.

Well ok maybe a lot but I won't mean anything by it :P
