Irishguy117 Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 (edited) Sort of what it says in the title. From what I've observed Its most egregious in the case of Wraiths, where you end up fighting the UI to force the soldier to take a shot that absolutely will work, but that the game insists (Falsely) has a zero percent chance to succeed and won't even let you click to attack. So far I've been dealing with it by just ordering the gunner to attack ground and watching as Wraiths fall over dead, but its not exactly ideal, especially for new players who will believe what the UI is telling them is true. I've been playing Xenonauts since closed alpha back in 2012 or however long its been (God I went and got old), I know the UI is a lying to me when it says 0% chance to hit, but if the game tells a new player "This is literally impossible" they're gonna believe it. The game shouldn't try and stop you from taking an action that will succeed, often to the tune of three or four hits and a very high chance of at least suppressing the target. Went back a turn in the save just to grab some screenshots and demonstrate what I mean after I sat and thought about it at the end turn phase. Edited July 21, 2023 by Irishguy117 Quote
DaviddesJ Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Sure, it should explain somewhere that even a "miss" can randomly end up hitting the target. Quote
doubleskulls Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Its the cloaking field messing up the numbers... targeting them directly gets the -39 penalty in the 2nd screen shot, which doesn't apply if you don't target them. It feels a bit cheesy to by-pass the cloaking field effect by targeting the ground next to the Wraith. If it was an AoE is more tolerable, but IMO it shouldn't let the MG have a better hit chance. Novadea Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 It's not lying to you, it's telling you that you have 9% chance to hit the floor with the first shot and then less than that due to recoil, which means you have 91% and increasing chance to hit something around it, including the cloaked wraith. Now if you instead target the cloaked wraith, well it's cloaked and at that distance you'll get a huge penalty, you'll probably hit everything else but it (almost like the floor tile). The secret of heavy weapons is to think past a single opponent and aim three down . Quote
