Chris
For the confused, the second v14.1 is the true one. It seemed the original V14.1 was missing some files for some reason so I updated it again to make sure there were no unexpected crashes. Transcendence
Huh... I'm a premium purchaser... and I can't seem to get the Desura download going, and the standalone keeps saying I have to buy it... yet I already have.... I am confused... Edit - Oop, never ye mind, I fixed it... now to find a Desura voodoo doll... Edited September 6, 2012 by Transcendence
Guest
Why is there 2 seperate tiers of preorder builds now? the standard preorders get the less buggy V14.1.1 version, while us premium preorder folks have to use the V14.1 CTD version, not that it matters much at this stage. Having said that, it does seem that Desura is moving to their own weird agenda, Edited September 7, 2012 by Ace
LKx
I know that alpha doesn't suppose to care about balance, but it happens to anyone else that very soon 90% of ufo spotted are groups of three fighters (or if lucky single fighters) and i can't get to anything else because i have to fight them since they are very aggressive? In addition they always get destroyed, and because of that i'm going through the second month with like three ground missions in total since the beginning of the game... Corporal Hicks
What's your version of the game, LKx? Cause my experience is the exact opposite of yours. I have lots of crash sites, and I haven't fought a fighter yet.
Vivisector 9999
90% would be an exaggeration in my games, but it's been acknowledged for a while that the fighter generation is unbalanced, and will be toned down for the final game. Chris
V14.11 is just a hotfix for the strength bug. I'm still waiting for it to be approved on the Alpha branch, though it has been approved on the Premium branch. It's unlikely there'll be any new releases until V15 now. They came about half into the first month, i can put them down but now i'm stuggling with founds because i can't have ground missions (both because the high number of them, sometimes i have a couple of three fighter squadrons close to my base and even on top of some scout, like they were escorting it..., and because they always gets destroyed). I have a second, radar-only base in central america, and it spots far lesse fighter and a lot more scouts, but i don't have a ground squad there yet, because i don't have enough founds... I remember now that i had the same problem even with v12 (i jumped v13 because i gave up on desura...). Its a bit frustrating to not being able to play the "core" game (the ground missions), and playing only air combat instead (even if i like very much how it's implemented) There is any way to manage to don't get the fighters *always* destroyed without risking to much to loose your aircrafts? (again... founds...)? Edited September 8, 2012 by LKx

b00dles
Not sure where the appropriate place to put this but I'm really glad I backed you guys at Goldhawk after seeing the gameplay vid of the new Xcom. It looks OK and I'm sure I'll also buy it at some point but it really doesn't look anything like 'proper' X-Com. It inspired me to try V14 as I've tried to hold off until some more bits and bobs were added and for the past two days been getting annoying MCF errors with Desura :grumble:. Anyway, I know it's not Goldhawks problem and I just wanted to say thank you to Chris and the team for making a genuine Xcom sequel. It's strange to me as a 32 year old gamer for ages and ages to be looking forward to a crowd sourced game I part funded more than the "official" sequel to X-com, something I never thought I'd be playing any version of, let alone the possibility of playing a proper isometric one and also a slightly shinier looking "Fisher-Price My First X-Com" game on a console. Strange times... Either way, well done and thanks to you peeps at Goldhawk.

b00dles
No that's a fair point. I realise it isn't a sequel and yes, is more of an 'alternative cut' to use film parlance. Arguably neither of the versions that are on the way are sequels, so I apologise for typing freely and not paying much attention to writing a post on a game forum. I should have been acutely aware that any communication on the internet should be triple checked as though it was a thesis for a Masters. Besides, you missed out an "a" between 'to' and 'heartwarming' but keep up the good work.

windex
14.1, and my base is in the middle east. They came about half into the first month, i can put them down but now i'm stuggling with founds because i can't have ground missions (both because the high number of them, sometimes i have a couple of three fighter squadrons close to my base and even on top of some scout, like they were escorting it..., and because they always gets destroyed). (again... founds...)? I was complaining before about this myself and I agree there are just too many air battles after about the third ground battle: same thing where I lose funds because of not being able to do enough ground battles and eventually my base gets destroyed. I have so many fleets of fighter ufos in threes that in the end that's all I'm doing. I always start my bases in USSR by the way. Chris once said that this would be balance later that it wasn't in place for the AI yet to figure how much and at what time they should be attacking. So, for now maybe I'll build three more hangers at the beginning of my game. I end up tiring and eventually loses all my fighter planes. Max_Caine
If you want to make some immediate changes so you have more ground combat and less air combat, edit AM_Research.xml, change the value below the <Chance> tag to something higher (say, 75), and delete the two sets of lines that describe the non scout ufos. Then edit AM_AirSuperiority.xml and change the value below the <Once per wave> tag to true. Doing all that, the light scouts or ordinary scouts should become a lot more common and fighter wings should be restricted to one fighter wing per wave of alien UFOs. Chris - just downloaded the standalone version of 14.1.1 from Desura and the strength bug is still there. After the first mission, all my troops went up to approx strengh 80 and most were promoted to captain.
Max_Caine
Donkeyfumbler, that's been reported here. Giovanni could probably use corroborating information (pictures, savefiles, composition of units, any workarounds you may have used, etc.). I thought maybe that although the standalone said 14.1.1 it hadn't actually had the fix added as tbh I was surprised to see it said 14.1.1 at all - usually the standalone takes much longer to update. I will post details in that thread you linked to.
