Nemeo
Here are a few suggestions for the unannounced expansion. These are random/optionnal mission that could make the world of Xenonauts a liverlier place and add a bit of variety in the current mission type (ground and air combat). Sorry if these have already been submitted. Capture Mission what: capture x of this alien type/ this particular alien. when: at random, especially when the player is losing. where: The mission could be given on the world map or on the ground battle map, when the alien appears in sight range why: working on this alien would help us understand something. We ran out of samples for this alien. During ground mission "this alien seems a bit different/we saw him pole dancing" and we'd like to make tests on him. reward: science points. Test mission what: use this (prototype) weapon on this alien/ufo type. when: at random. If the player is losing, give him a working prototype. If he is winning, give him a useless prototype. where: on the world map. It could spawn the prototype weapon in the inventory. why: testing in living condition gives better results. reward: science points for a weapon tech. If he fails, loss of science points for a weapon tech. Blackhawk down what: the transport crash landed but there are survivors. The player must send an empty transport to rescue them. In the meantime, ufos passing nearby can send troops to assault the crash site. when: when a transport of the player is shot down where: on the world map. If over sea and close to the shores, be kind and spawn the mission on the nearest beach. why: to make Goldhawk's team create crash site map template. reward: first, the player doesn't lose a whole load of soldiers. Everytime a ufo crew is defeated, the ufo disappears and the battle counts as a victory. Trophy mission what: Mr Bigdollars wants this alien badly for his zoo/for his lounge/for his natural needs. Capture one for him. when: at random, especially when the player is losing. Time limited offer. where: on the world map. why: Mr Bigdollars wants it, and he pays cash. reward: money, reputation with an area, production point in a nearby base. Escort mission what: Mr Bigdollars trusts you to escort his plane to its destination. when: at random. where: on the world map. Mr Bigdollars spawns regardless of the player's opinion. why: because Mr Bigdollars is whimsy. reward: money, repuation with an area, production point in a nearby base. Loss of reputation if he is shot down. Tactical Data gathering what: equip a squadron of x fighters with a data gathering pod and engage this/any ufo type (for x seconds, meaning you can't destroy him for x seconds to succeed). when: at random. Time limited mission. where: on the world map. why: for science. After all, the alien technology also moves on. reward: science points. If it fails, loss of science spoints (hard difficulty?) Tactical data escort what: send a drone to this position. It will need an escort. (basically, everytime the drone squadron is engaged by ufos, the player must protect the drone until it leaves the screen. when: at random. where: on the world map. why: Aliens are up to something here (alien controlled territory?). reward: reputation points? spawns a "kill alien leader" mission? decrease alien base strength? science points? Arrest alien collaborators what: humans decided to side with aliens and took hostages. Negociations have failed. It's swat 2 time. (save hostages, kill the bad guys). when: anytime. Especially when player reputation is low or when the player is winning. Time limited mission. where: mission spawns on the world map, in a region where the player has a high reputation. why: humans are weird that way. reward: reputation. alien artifacts. If the mission fails, massive loss of reputation.
anotherdevil
Some of these ideas are, interesting. Perhaps have a wider read of the forums, and get more of a feel for the game. Some of the reasons like: why: to make Goldhawk's team create crash site map template. and what: Mr Bigdollars wants this alien badly for his zoo/for his lounge/for his natural needs. Capture one for him. Aren't really acceptable, to be honest, in my opinion. The first one because the team is working hard out on this game, putting in countless hours, and it just seems so derogatory to try and 'force' them to put in a mission because the player messed up and didn't protect his transport. The second one just doesn't fit with the feel of the game, the Xenonauts are around to defend the planet from a very real, and deadly threat, not fill some guys zoo, regardless of how much money he has. Again, all my opinions, but I hope you see what I mean =]
Sathra
Actually transport crash site recoveries were brought up on the old forums. I think they were voted against due to how complicated and messy they can get code-wise.
