Xenolith Mod Hosting

Somebody from Xenolith mod database got in touch with me recently asking if we wanted to be involved with their site. Essentially the service is free and it is used by the community of Project Zomboid. I've noticed that a lot of people seem to be hosting their own files seperately and publicising them in threads in these forums.

I think it'd be a good idea to move them to a specialist hosting site so people can easily find the install instructions and the download links (the threads can get convoluted, particularly for popular tools like the QM's Weapon Editor etc), and so that it'll also stop mods disappearing if the user gets bored and moves hosting or something.

The features are listed below:

Features:

- Upload directly to our servers or use the built in Link-System to continue using services like Adf.ly or other filehosters.

- No download limits.

- Add screenshots or explanatory images in a gallery.

- Gain exposure, thanks to our popularity system.

- Add as many files and images as you want.

- Track your visits and downloads in detailed analytical data. Full Graphs and everything.

- Rank yourself among other modders, if you want to. No pressure, what-so-ever.

- Add source code for other modders to use.

- Optional: Choose from six creative commons licenses and let others know what they can do with your creation.

Hey everyone,

I am Axel the developer and administrator of Xenolith.

I don't think there is much to add besides that not only modders, but also players can profit from Xenolith.

You can...

  • ...maintain a list of all your favorite mods.
  • ...subscribe and be notified when updates arrive.
  • ...like the mods you enjoy and make the author feel appreciated.
  • ...give constructive criticism and help develop the mod!

I hope you enjoy the site and it's features.

If you think we should add something like a category or a certain feature feel free to tell us!

Just got a chance to look at this. It looks really useful and I have been worried that folks have not been downloading the most up to date version of the weapon editor when new versions of Xenonauts are released. It will be nice to have a website that would prompt them when the new version is up.

Hello,

What an amazing time it has been. We have grown at an astounding rate each month, currently housing over 415 users! Thanks everyone!

I’ve been rather busy myself with work outside of Xenolith, therefore I had to find time for Xenolith wherever it was possible. However I did find enough time to bring you this amazing update.

Let’s start off with the obvious update. The new clean design. While working in my current job in a media agency with a professional designer I learnt a lot and used this knowledge to update the design and make it more accessible and modern.

I hope you enjoy the new all-around cleaner look.

Another new feature is the slick drop down control panel. It’s fixed at the top right corner and offers everything you already know and love. But now it’s less in the way and only pops up if you actually need it.

The last cool feature is the new search engine which allows simultaneous mod title and tag search. You should find it to be more accurate and helpful.

The rest are bug fixes, code optimizations and cross browser optimizations. IE users should be able to download and view pop ups properly now.

You can view the entire new site at: http://xenolith.ws (Press F5 if it looks odd)

Happy gaming!

I won't ever use Xenolith because the mods I work on are a mixture of original material and existing material, and Xenolith only permits original material. Take the Alien Class Analysis mod - the original material needs to be integrated into several files, all of which are existing material. Ergo, it can't be hosted on Xenolith.

Frankly, I don't get it. Anyone show me one mod, for any game, that only contains original material. It's absolutely impossible; even if you edit one txt file, you can't delete all content and start from scratch, you (usually) must leave some basic stuff that links the data to the game.

Allow me to clarify what I mean. According to the Terms of Service, point 1) is:

The user is only allowed to upload material he owns the copyright for.

As I don't own copyright on any material produced by Goldhawk Interactive (existing material), I can only upload original material (my copyright). So, yeah. And I don't believe it would matter if Chris benefically spread his arms and permitted me to upload Goldhawk material to Xenolith, because I do not own the copyright (and never will!) I can't upload any mod which includes Goldhawk material.
