Guest
This thread is smoking! I can already foresee flaming-hot Cheetos getting jealous.
Vivisector 9999
When this thread grows enough, the game's flamethrower will at last be ready.
thothkins
A warm welcome to the thread for res1aytk and Vivisector 9999! Sometimes, threads and indeed forums can settle into a rut. All of the topics have been discussed and everyone has had their views aired. Fortunately, Xenonauts always has new builds to talk about, and self immolating civvies willing to sacrifice themselves so the light of this thread can live on. Better yet, the game brings in new posters, willing to stoke the embers of the forums and provide a fresh look at everything. That then jolts life back into things, and sparks off new discussions and ideas. Can't be bad, can it?
Swe_Racoon
Oh dear, this thing is still here? I thought I saw a bright beacon on my way here, but I could scarcely imagine that it was this blazing inferno I glimpsed. It truly warms my heart *sheds single manly tear*
thothkins
It's an easy beacon to see. Especially as we propped it on top of a giant pyramid of smouldering suicidal civvies. Your single, manly tear turns into vapour as it approaches this thread, preventing anyone form seeing it and calling you a wuss for shedding it. Destyre
Seeing all these puns about civilians running into fires just gets me all CHOKED up. Edited August 6, 2012 by Destyre
Gauddlike
Yeah the AI is a hot topic.
thothkins
Actually, I've been reading accounts recently of soldiers shooting themselves when operations failed, or invasion forces overtook them. So, even with the AI being worked on, should there not still be a chance of a civilian/ local forces person throwing themselves into the fires as they can;t stand the thought of earth being overrun and they feel helpless to prevent it? You know, when they just can't take the heat any more?
Gauddlike
It was probably just a few veterans who burnt out.
Swe_Racoon
This thing spreads like wildfire, it does. I wonder if there is anyone not touched by the flame yet?
thothkins
This thing spreads like wildfire, it does. I wonder if there is anyone not touched by the flame yet? It's like everything else. You get a few folks who think they're too cool for such a thing. But deep down they;re just burning with desire to join in the fun.
Destyre
It's nice to talk about silly things without flaming.
Gauddlike
I like to think of this thread as a pure guiding candle in the murk of the internet.
Chris
Thankfully, given this issue has been smouldering for so long, the latest AI update should fix the self-immolation issue.
jimbobfury
Just the fact that there's any sort of AI update is music to my ears! Do we have to wait until the next milestone to get our hands on this, or will you be releasing any incremental patches, Chris? Damn, I'd not read all the previous pun posts before I added this...er...there's my credibility up in smoke... thothkins
Hopefully the civvies won;t get too smart. Imagine how your cheeks would burn with embarrassment if half a dozen of them mugged one of the Xenonauts, and hijacked the empty Chinook. I still think self immolation is a viable civilian option on occasion. I cite the '80s movie The Thing where Fuchs possibly sets himself on fire to avoid being taken over by the creature. Besides, it wouldn't be like X-Com if they were that clever.
PageofCups
They just need a bit of warmth in their dull cold war lives. Getting high on pillars of smoke is also growing in popularity. (I assume they die after a while in those pillars of smoke due to CO poisoning and general choking on the fumes?)
Gijs-Jan
I would say the AI now considers a fire... ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■ ) ... red-hot
thothkins
and there you have it. graphical proof that this thread is smoking...
Commissar Pancakes
Huh...don't remember THAT part of The Thing... And for the civilian muggings...at least we've infinite pistol ammo!
thothkins
I think this is right....the lights go out in the camp and Fuchs in in the lab. He sees a shadow pass by the door (probably on it's way to sabotage the tractors and 'coptor) When the others search for him they come across the charred remains of someone and then they see Fuchs glasses. Fuchs had set himself on fire with a flare. The comment that either he died trying to burn the creature or burned himself to stop it getting him. The third option, as we know in this forum, is that the flare was already there and Fuchs wandered straight into it when the AI failed. I think they shot two versions of Fuchs' deaths. There was a still with him impaled on a door by an axe, but it wasn't in the release. I'm sure someone else here can verify the above. But if there are any disagreements, let's keep it polite. I'd hate for tempers to... flare.
Buzzles
I'm sure that when the civilians have realised that running into the static fires is a bad idea, they can probably still be taken unawares by a burst of highly pressurised and flaming napalm. You know, I can't wait for the flamethrower. Edited August 13, 2012 by Buzzles
Swe_Racoon
I just realised something here... Once the flamethrower is issued, I'll be staying as far away from thothkins as possible. I admit, I can't take the heat...
thothkins
Ah, I'm disappointed. I was hoping to fire up a few new friendships by showing off my new toy.
