Hey. I can not find how to enable the display of the chance of hitting in %. tell me, is there such a thing in the game?

@Svinedrengen i have found the problem, first off the lights out datacore for the landed submap was misspelled, secondly the scout datacore xml file was deleted for some reason, they have now been fixed and a new version is being uploaded

Well, if you lower the ATP at which Terror Carrier start to appear, you obviously also have to lower the ATP at which the escorts can appear.

Part of difficulty is to rotate big soldier pool (as rookies do suck). That also means losing several veterans is not catastrophe as with better equipment not so good soldiers can handle job. With some rookies with cannon fodder if necessary (I have not used that tactic).

Currently I have:

BRG G: 3, COL: 5, MAJ: 2, CAP: 6, LT: 11, SGT: 9, CPL: 11

So losing "few veterans" is very far from crippling the game even on phase 2.

No no no I absolutly 100 % did do that, yep no doubt about it.... buuut just to be sure, I checked it again and totally without changing the value to 50 so it matches, and what do you know, now it works all of a sudden, so weird ;)

Well, when I said that, I actually meant anybody else but me, I deserve answers to my questions because I am who I am, and because I like it that way. I only said "us" to sound more in solidarity with the plebs, I do try not to look down on you peasants more than neccesary, since I believe it is the honorable thing to do :cool:

However, now that the investigation is over i can finally present the ...

 

 

 

Endreport on the Dr Ethan affair

Lets start off with the offenses.

  • Dr Ethan has uploaded another modders assets against the wishes of the mod author and without any and all permission to do so. He has been warned once, and then a second time by me, @Charon, and then warned once and a second time by @Chris. Yet the files continued to stay online for a rough period of 14 days which caused reasonable amount of damage.
  • Following this matter Dr Ethan has continuesly harrassed another user on this forum. This includes 7 dedicated posts against the other user as well as including derogatory tags in the download section for other people to see.

 

The result of this is a borderline ban, which is one step away from getting permanently banned.

 

 

Now usually this would be the end of the report but there seem to be some questions which are still lingering around, so lets answer them.

 

Why cant you work together with Dr Ethan ?

  • Dr Ethan doesnt respect the direct wishes of another person. It is just coincidence that these wishes happen to allign with an actual ruleset on this and any other modding forum. But putting the boot into another persons face and then expecting help from them doesnt work as a universal rule in most cultures. Be nice and get a nice reply.
  • Dr Ethan does ignore the general modding rules which are more or less the same on the internet, a minicopyright. An example of them can be found here: https://help.nexusmods.com/article/28-file-submission-guidelines
  • Dr Ethan doesnt accept the highest authority on this forum. Be nice to Chris. If Chris says X its X and not Y.
  • Now this is kinda a big point, but it is objectively subjective. When people read A, Dr Ethan reads B. Ill give a few examples
       1. Chris says linking to another peoples assets is against the rules, which is meat with the reply of "But i just wanna link to it", for which Chris has to reply with that it doesnt matter what he wants, which gets the reply of "But he did bad stuff too". I think you can see where this is going. An argumentation on, objectively, a childrens level.
       2. When i say datacores are missing, i mean that datacores are missing. Not "Im pretty sure they are there".
    The rest of examples is simply a "misreading" of things. If i communicate with somebody i want to get the message across.
  • People who work with me need the right kind of attitude. "Ill do the rest when i feel like it" is not the right kind of attitude.

Now each and everyone of the above is a dealbreaker, but together they form quite a clear picture.

 

Why did you ignore Dr Ethan ?

To de-escalate the situation. It didnt need more fire than it already had.

 

What about his work epic ?

I said i will only let pass work on an X-Division quality standard through but ... its honestly a joke.

  • The mod assets dont have a single working code line. The only things in there are either X-Division layouts with no holes, or XNT layouts, with no datacores. Im not even sure if a single line of code has seen work beyond a copy and paste.
  • Okay, this is a big. Im not joking. ( Clears throat ). Dr Ethan has made holes into the wrong art assets. The mod doesnt have any original X-Division art. I assume it was unintentional. Or maybe it was another copy and paste.
    I think this ties together with the hard to communicate part above, but Dr Ethan needs the competence to find the right art assets. I literally cant do that for him. The point is that he needs to see for himself that the UFOs in X-Division actually look different, and then he needs to connect the dots.

So we have not a single working code line, and we dont have any art. Now i sweeped the rest of the assets and there seems to be other files which may or may not work, but for the heart of the matter there has been zero work done. Zero.

Apart from that

  • Datacores are missing which means blocked research paths and no new aircraft ( try building aircraft without datacores ).
  • Research incompability breaks save games.

The mod is more than just a blank file, it actually blocks people from progressing through the game. Guess who has to give support for that.

 

Anything else to add ?

There was this thing on another page about using X-Division assets. Im not blocking anybody from making their own mod ontop of X-Division, even if it contains X-Division assets, unless i expressly forbid it. The general rules for using X-Division assets are layed out here under "Permissions and credits":

At this point i would have said that Dr Ethan has wasted my time, wasted Max´s time to investigate, and wasted Chris´s time to intervene,  but i think all of this has a silver lining. Through this incident there have been a number of weakpoints in the administrative routine exposed, which may lead to an improved terms of service and code of conduct as well as improved protection of modding assets and harassed users on this forum, without installing mind control machines in everybodys brain ;)

 

I will briefly speak about uploading assets on steam.

Its a bad idea. Not only does Steam have a lot of problems with deep directories, it also has problems with images, especially with aircraft images. Fruthermore "updating" new versions is what Steam isnt great at either. You will get lucky if the "update" button even works. New versions can take up to 2 hours to actually get taken by steam, and then redirected to the user. And this is just scratching the surface.
So if @Dr. Ethanactually wants to get people to get their hands on his latest version i suggest uploading it to reliable sites. Like MEGA, but any other site that can share files is an option too, maybe google drive or whatever. Just constructive criticism though.

 

What does the future hold ?

For security reasons i will not answer anything provided by Dr Ethan for the next month. Today is the 14.3.2019. Just for de-escalation reasons.

 

With this i consider the whole matter closed.

I get that he did harassment and was a bit overboard in his replies, but how does:

work at all? No one gets paid for this. It's a mod. How does a modification of a mod being online damage anything?

 

I get 'it breaks the rules', but damages implies...well, monetary value lost, no? No one was forced to use the submod. No one was forced to install it.

Users cannot delete their own mod content (at least i couldn't figure out how to do it) so that is why it stayed up, if you saw in the last post i tried to take it down but i decided to just wait for Chris to do it.

Apparently not, only an official warning for the tags and uploading the content which i tried to take down when the administration asked for, by my count that makes me about midway to a ban.

Just look at my previous post on the rudeness on Charon and i dont listen to wishes if they make no sense (like saying everyone can use 10.0.10 but getting mad at me for showing people where it is).

That isnt this forum, so idk why you keep pointing to that, i could make my own mod hosting a website with its own rulesets but they wouldn't apply here no matter how popular it could become.

As i said before i tried to remove it but i couldn't figure it out so i just waited for him to do it. Secondly he asked for what you did and i told him, and lastly, i don't know what the last point means because you were wrong and i figured that out by actually working with the submaps.

You don't need lines of code to make a mod for xenonauts (even though arguably xml formats is a program formatting language and i did edit the base build file, i don't know why he said this), like i said half of the layouts aren't finished yet so the ones that are there are straight from x division waiting to be made into the fire in the hole versions.

First of i have no idea what you are talking about, i used all of the art from x-division as a starting point, secondly, technically your assets are copy-pastes of the original xenonauts ones recolored and a hex grid on it sometimes.

actually, most of the later game layouts either have the straight up X-Division layouts which means they won't have holes but they will have datacores or they have mine, and almost all of the first half has the correct datacore.

First rude, second you got Max and Chris to intervene even though if you had just asked nicely and had not flipped out and insulted me i would have taken them down, third i don't see any weak points, lastly, i haven't harassed anyone but you and i had my reasons as seen above.

Ok, not doing steam is just a personal preference, Secondly MEGA has had a few large security leaks and i don't find it very reliable, thirdly updating a steam mod with xenonauts isnt that hard, however because of how X-Division works to install you have to push update close the launcher and then open it again. This is a way easier stream of instructions to follow than copy and pasting yourself for most users.

Well in conclusion i was sorry because i thought maybe i made a mountain out of a molehill out of Charon's comments and he really was trying to be nice (and failing at it in my opinion), but now i see he really is that jerk who just tries to spread falsehoods about me and misattribute things as well. So I am no longer sorry XD, I won't edit my previous comments like a scrub *cough editing the comment after I linked to the 1.0.10 version cough* and i am open to any comments on my port. I still haven't gotten any specific evidence of what is wrong just Charon saying "He is bad and he should feel bad because he used the wrong assets" that doesn't tell me anything.

While I can agree that your points here are correct, Ethan (calling it a investigation reeks of Snobbery on Charon's part), I don't think that correcting his poor English skills is going to do anything, bar further poison the well here.

 

Still, it's a shame things headed in this direction. It would have been nice to see fire in the hole be adapted for X-Division. Regardless, hopefully the mod can continue onward.

 

While I can understand being annoyed at how Charon has replied and treated you, being repeatedly snarky, rude and nippy in return hasn't done you any favors, alas.

 

Unrelated but: As someone who never really noticed the 'phases' before (since ...well, they weren't as important. Yes aliens got tougher, but it wasn't as in your face as it is here), how many phases of alien assault is there?

 

Also: Does the 'resistance to weapons' continue into the later stages? For example, I have my elite squad using X-Division ballistics and lasers, due to enemies that are resistant to both. Once I move onto the next level of weapons development, would they replace lasers, or also need to be included in the group armament?

I'd suggest not 'blowing off steam' in public. It makes you look like an ass. Don't get me wrong, the other guy comes off as an ass too. But the nitpicking and 'see see see he's insulting me!!!' really underminds your efforts.

There are advantages to being the bigger man and all that. :3

And thank you for the information! It'll be useful to not have to lug one of everything around.

@Changeling_wil Each phase provides tougher aliens as well as better equipment. The thing called "mitigation" is armor penetration and counters armor (=resistance). In addition, kinetic and energy armor is ablated/worn away by taking damage (armor penetration does not wear away armor, it just ignores up to that amount of armor, but "regular" damage that has to push through armor does wear it away slowly [by 15% of the damage stopped]. It's possible to destroy an Andron with Division rifles alone, but it took about 30 hits when I tried it out, and the first damage happened on hit 22 or so, which means even with save scumming to ensure a 100% hit rate, you can't carry enough ammo to use that tech exclusively against Androns, unless using an exploit).

Something that's useful to know is that the kinetic/energy weapons of each phase aren't straight better replacement for the corresponding weapons of the previous phase technology (the Mk-1, Mk-2, Mk-3 versions within a technology are essentially better replacements within a technology, though). Each phase's weapon technology has its own profile (typically a theme applied to all weapon types using that technology), which forces you to adapt to how the new weapons behave.

@venom274 I get a hit chance displayed in % when playing hovering over a prospective target (when a soldier is equipped with a weapon), and didn't find anything in Options to disable it, so yes, it's there. As to why you can't find it I have no idea.

My best guess it an incorrect mod installation of some kind, such as e.g. trying to use incompatible mods, but that's all it is: a guess.

Has the difficulty been increased in recent versions of this mod? Reason I'm asking is I had a terror mission at the start of month 2 and it's basically impossible. I have watched youtube vids of players experienced with the mod and they are not using any tactics I don't. I don't see any way I could 'improve' to have a chance at a terror mission at this stage. Massive escorted ufo that can't be shot down with starting tech, hordes of ballistic resistant regenerating sebillians and reapers with fat hp. I took out a few with mass grenades and flamers before one of my guys went down and the entire remainder of the team panicked. Not that it would have made a difference, but it was pretty funny.

I don't save scum but I doubt this mission would be doable even if I did. So am I supposed to ignore these missions and just lose the continent?
