Nebyab
The random event that has them strafing oil rigs is precisely due to the aliens' understanding of what they are and what they mean to humanity. Of course one could always come up with a story about how they use oil as food or a skin care cream but...you know. There would need to be a plausible reason why aliens need the oil. Moonshine Fox
An oil rig mission would be a nice addition to the game, and one I've considered in the past. However the main issue is the fact it'd be another tileset, each of which are huge amounts of effort and make me want to cry.Plus I'd rather have, say, a jungle tileset first given we already have an industrial tileset. But yeah, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the idea other than the time and effort it'd take to do it. KICKSTARTAAAAAAAAH! Gauddlike
I prefer the Magicka version of that scene.

XenoMask
Yeah, oil rigs missions would be awesome and it would be nice to have reason to have radar coverage over sea even if it doesn't make sense why aliens don't just bomb the rig. Ravenholme
The alien goal is abduction of humans, right? Or, at least, that's one of the many things they're doing, right? Ignore the oil aspect, Oil Rigs are perfect targets for the Aliens because they're isolated and undefended collections of humans, generally of a healthy, working age. Prime specimens in the parlance of my trade (Biologist). You can, ideally, capture them either without being detected or before any kind of response shows up, which means that you're likely to get as many live ones as you can to dissect and prod to your leisure. That's the real value of an Oil Rig to an Alien (Although, the assumption that they would know what Fossil Fuels are is not entirely true, as it relies on some pretty specific aspects of the Earth Environment that we have them. What if they're from a world without oceans, for example? Or with rocks that don't lend themselves to the preservation of dead material?) IceVamp
I don't think abduction is mentioned in this game, no. Seems like they just want to wipe us out so they can use our planet, or for fun.
Ravenholme
That actually requires more suspension of disbelief than anything otherwise - Even if you're here to kill us, taking some of us to work out how best to do it still makes too much sense. Testing our biology and frame to it's limits, finding out how we react vacuum, how we react to disease, chemical and biological warfare (Can't engineer a bioweapon without a way to test it), etc etc And for a lot of that, Cadavers will not do. IceVamp
I agree. However if your civilization has FTL technology, and a limitless army engineered for war, they might not bother. We'd be as apes to them. Besides, who knows what makes sense to a different civilization.
