Max_Caine
This Works With: Community Edition 0.28 & 0.30HF1 What is Project Mercury? Project Mercury used to be another mod that went by the name of the Grease Pit. It was a series of custom vehicle modifications that tried to give each vehicle class their own character. At the time the Grease Pit was all about bonuses: extra health, extra armour, extra, extra, extra! Having played World Of Tanks for a bit, I've come to realise that the character of a vehicle is as much by its weaknesses as much as its strengths. So Project Mercury takes the old ideas of the Grease Pit and fleshes them out, making a more, fully-formed vehicle type by boosting some things, and reducing others. So what are the vehicles? These are all variants on the stock vehicles you get in the game. There are no new vehicles, but each variant has its own character. There's a xenopedia entry for each vehicle (artwork by Derek Restivio), each vehicle is manufactured individually. The variants have different manufacturing requirements, but each costs the same. The Hunter The Type 2 Hunter focuses on protection. Pros Same armour levels as a Scimitar. Cons Takes longer to build Requires 3 spaces in the dropship The Type 3 Hunter focuses on speed. Pros 50% more AP than the standard Hunter.Cons Weaker side and rear armour Slightly reduced HP Requires Alenium The Scimitar The VH-2/A1 variant focuses on the main weapon Pros 80% more shots Burst fire option No overdamage Cons Requires more Alenium Reduced damage and explosion radius Reduced visual range and vision cone The VH-2/B1 variant focuses on durability Pros 100% more HPCons Slightly reduced AP and armourThe Hyperion Is still in development. I'm waiting on the artwork to come back to me. There will be a Cherubim-class and an Ophanim-class Hyperion. The Mod You can find two versions of the mod. The first is the "main sequence" mod, which completely integrates into the main tech tree. This is suitible for someone who is starting a new game (probably with other mods). You can find this here./u]. I have also made an independant version of the mod. This mod is not integrated into the tech tree, and the vehicle research is unlocked by gathering commonly found ufo datacores. This is suitible for people who would like to use the mod in their current game, as technology tied to the main tech tree cannot be researched if you have already passed the unlocking tech. You can find it here Credits Derek Restivio for all his artwork on the Scimitar and the Hunter. Max Caine: Coder and Writer.
