Armour Resource Pack

This pack contains a set of 10 new armour types for modders to use in their games. The pack itself does not actually integrate these armours into the game, so unless you are planning on doing some modding yourself or are using a mod that uses these assets, it won't be any use to you.

However, I've built a mod - Cybernetic Armours - which uses these assets if you want to try them out.

Download:

Armour Resource Pack (v1.0)

Note that the download is quite large (~1gb) and will take some time to download.

Install Instructions:

To install, either:

1) Unpack the zip file into assets/mods; or

2) Install using the mod manager in the Xenonauts game launcher

Alternatively, for Steam users, you can install the mod via Steam Workshop.

However you install the mod, make sure you set it to 'active' in the mod manager.

Uninstall Instructions:

To uninstall, either:

1) Delete the mod's folder from assets/mods; or

2) Uninstall using the mod manager in the Xenonauts game launcher

If you installed using Steam Workshop, you should also unsubscribe from the mod (otherwise it will keep re-downloading). Note that simply unsubscribing from the mod will not delete it; you must also delete the mod using one of the above methods.

Usage:

I've released this for other modders to use, so you're welcome to make use of and redistribute anything in this pack. However, if you do so I'd appreciate it if you credit me and add a link back to this thread.

Acknowledgements:

- Thanks to Solver for sorting out large-file uploading so this pack could be hosted.

- Thanks to Sentelin for directing me towards image compression software. This made a huge difference to the size of the download.

QUESTIONS!

1. Where did you get the animation XMLs from? The ones inside armour.jackal_2....etc?

2. Do you have animation XMLs for the basic armor and buzzard armor? If so, can I get a set of those? Pretty please!

3. In the Resource Pack - I see a new sequipview.lua, what changes did you make to the script?

1. They're unpacked along with the sprite sheets when you unpack the units .pfp file.

2. I've not done anything for basic armour or buzzard armour, no. I might do in the future, but nothing at the moment.

3. All I did was increase the size of the armour selection drop-down menu as with all the new armour types its too small. (And while you can scroll down it with the mouse wheel, it also scrolls through your soldiers which isn't helpful.)

I've never unpacked PFPs before, would you mind shooting me the basic armor's animation XMLs?

I've rescued and uploaded the PFP packer in its authors name. You can fine it here:

http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=26

I'd upload the files for you, but I have a fairly slow internet connect and it will take an hour to get the upload up. Plus, if you have the tools you'll be able to do a lot more!

Thanks mate. Teach a man to fish....eh?

I had this installed in the base game, along with the Cybernetic Armor mod.

I switched over to X:CE and now the header information (in the mod launcher) is blank. CyberArmor appears ok in the launcher.

In the game, my saved game lost the armor (obviously because the mod wasn't loading properly), and a few odd things went on (guys running around with no weapons that were previously wearing the armour, etc)

When I deleted and reinstalled the resource pack, it said it was successful, but then said something about "error reading central zip directory". Real strange.

Any ideas how this got borked? This only happened when I switched over to X:CE, so I know it's something to do with that. But other people seem to have no problem using it...

Edit: attached a screenie - you can see the highlighted line behind the window is where the "Armour Resource Pack" should be written.

Yeah, it's as small as I could make it already. You might be able to find some form of file compression that could reduce it further but it'd make it more difficult for people to use if they need a special program for unpacking. It would also block compatibility with Steam Workshop, although the file size is already too large to be uploaded to Steam so that's probably irrelevant.

What you could do, though, is upload your mod in parts (e.g. one mod per armour type). It wouldn't reduce the size as such, but would make it more manageable in terms of up/downloading and if people didn't want to use everything in your mod they could just download the parts they want.

I downloaded the pack to see exactly what was in it and I noticed that each open-head armor had copies of the same head for each armor. Is it not possible to reference these from the vanilla files?

Meanwhile, looking for the source where the major weight comes from to this mod and I noticed it was the weapon spectres.

I think I may be able to dump a lot of the images in favor of arbitrary representation. In other words, I'll sacrifice the accuracy of the exact item the soldier is holding for an item that roughly matches its style. (ex: any human rifle will always use the magrifle spectre)

With that, I may be able to use this resource in a lighter form, since uploading to Steam and ease of use means a bigger deal than the accuracy of representation. All I'll need to do is to pick and choose the most universal specters to fit all the weapons of whatever types I'll need.
