Number of terror missions, alien bases and base assaults per play through

Recommended Posts

I was thinking this problem of aliens not being able to complete their missions (terror, construction and base assault).

This question is mainly directed to Solver and llunak regarding the CE possibilities: Whenever there's a terror, construction or base assault mission spawned, could the game spawn an additional air superiority mission to same coordinates to protect the main vessel? This would make shooting the main ufo down a bit more of a challenge.

You mean the main ship, its escort plus one-two additional wings of alien superiority fighters? Sure, why not.

I'd say it's not enough... hmm, what if there was a system that ensures that terror/crafting/base ufos are spawned at the middle or end of wave could also help.

You'd probably have to change the spawn-in time too. All UFOs spawn within 30 minutes of the start of the wave in vanilla, which doesn't allow for any differentiation.

In Dynamic UFOs, I changed this to something like 6 hours with the same kind of idea in mind, though. The idea is that if you launch planes immediately, you might sometimes get UFOs appearing on the big missions in-between sorties which you can't stop in time. Don't know if it actually works effectively in this manner, though.

I'm playing my first playthrough on Easy and I've got 3 terror attacks and 2 bases. No base assaults yet. I just started researching MAG Weapons because I got an early alien battle rifle from the other base. I just finished building a Shrike and got Marauders and Predators but no money to build them.

Just finished a veteran playthrough, I had 4 alien bases and no terror missions whatsoever. I think that my air superiority plan is gulity for no terror missions lol. Also, bases were found only in remote areas beyond my radar coverage.

Dammit, MKDELTA! Should I be playing on Easy in order to get those sweet sweet terror missions?

I really think the aliens should be smarter about what and when different missions are selected instead of random chance. It makes sense that early on the missions would be primarily scouting missions and then moving onto alien base building and subjugating the human population missions (bombing, terror, military attacks.) The more that UFO missions get shot down before completion the longer it should take to move onto the next stage. But shooting down UFO's and hindering the alien invasion progression should then provoke an angry response from the aliens. They should begin to look for and attack Xenonauts bases more and more frequently with more and more UFOs in waves getting dedicated to Xenonaut base attack missions until you get entire UFO waves attacking Xeno bases from multiple directions, eventually assaulting multiple bases simultaneously too. They should get pissed off and start dropping orbital drop pods into Xeno bases with like 20 reapers on board. They should start better defending themselves with more and more fighter escorts for their troops transports. The aliens should become better and better at defending themselves, they should even try to send defend and rescue missions to their fellow alien buddies at crash sites and attempt to shoot down troop transports enroute to crash sites. It is fairly dumb of the aliens to allow un-escorted troop transports to travel for 18 - 24 hours each way to and from UFO crash sites and kill their buddies and steal valuable technology.

The UFOs should also be making a beeline for your bases. They know where you live. Yes it might be easy to stop when it is just one UFO incoming. But later when they realize that sending one at a time isn't working they should be sending like 4 UFOs to a base. Also makes sense that they would begin their approach close to the base or sometimes even directly on top preventing even the opportunity to intercept the base attack transports and forcing you to rely on the defensive batteries and your base troops.

Well, according to in-game lore, the aliens does have the ability to wipe you and everything from the Earth.
But they don't do that, because they don't think the same way.  There is something else they want.

You can regard what the game says as a lame reason, but it does provide an answer to why they don't simply release hundreds of reapers on Earth.
(Except that, you know, that's what they do when they are really pissed off.)
