  1. Hi everyone. I wanted to address one thing - names DB for soldiers of Soviet Union. Sorry if this was raised up before. What I wanted to say, is that names list is not done very well. Here are the problems I found: - Common Russian/Ukrainian names are missing (Alexey, Andrey, Bogdan, Valeriy, Gennadiy, Stepan, Fedor, Ruslan), - Soft versions of regular names (Dima -> Dmitriy, Sasha -> Alexander, Max -> Maxim, Pasha -> Pavel, Kostya -> Konstantin*, Zhenya -> Evgeniy*). * means not present in the list. - Misspelled (Daniel should be Daniil) or non-slavic (Paul). - Only Russian surnames in the list (ending with -ov, -in, -ev). Ukrainian surnames commonly end with -o (Kovalenko, Kirsenko, Makhno, Pyatko, Shevchenko, Klichko), -uk (Kravchuk, Shevchuk, Tarasiuk), some are descendants of cossack "nicknames" (Perebiynis, Dyban, Kuchma). Not a full list by any means, just to give you some examples. Ofc, this can be easily fixed by modding soldiernames file, which I did, I just wonder if devs can take a look at this and fix in some future.
  2. I don't get this. Every soldier in this game is either American, Russian or Japanese. Names often repeat themselves, and they all involve anglo-saxon, soviet or japanese ascendances. Why is that? What about the rest of the nations, do they have no troops to offer? I find this not only inconvenient for emotional involvement, but slightly xenophobic. As a Brazilian, I feel - I don't know - excluded, I guess. Here's a great tool for generating names: http://www.behindthename.com/random/ Do you guys think you could fetch a couple of each country and throw it in the mix? It's a bit silly, but there's a very deep, irrational urge for people outside those three countries to see themselves represented.
  3. Julian Gollop David Braben Ian Bell Simo Häyhä Carlos Hathcock Chesty Puller Miyamoto Musashi Cyrano de Bergerac Jean Valjean Michael Moorcock Ulrich von Bek ...and some others that I can't think of right now because I have some really unpleasant paperwork to do and I've been drinking but you get the point and I'm sure someone else will step up and fill in. Plus your favourite artists' real names and all the beta testers' real names and a few heroes from mythology and various real wars and stuff like that. Maybe slightly randomize the names (grouped by ethnicity to avoid "Carlos Musashi") to make things less obvious.
