  1. I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but a search of the forums didn't turn up anything, so here goes: Kinetic void is a sandbox space simulator currently on Kickstarter. It's a game I'm quite excited about, but funding's not doing too well. It's got two key features that really attract me to it: firstly, it has a procedurally generated galaxy (with many factions, all with their own philosophies and politics) which means you can play a different game every time. Secondly, it allows you to design your own ships. The cool thing about the ship-building is that it's limited only by your resources, so as you do well in the game you can expand your fighter to a mighty capital ship. Get some allies, and where you were once limited to simple trade missions you now have the power to bring countries to their knees. You can give the game your own spin, and the progressive gameplay means the gameplay options expand with your character. The game is currently in a pre-alpha state, but the shipbuilder demo is availablehere; the Kickstarter is here. An interesting thing to note is that they're running a referral program. If someone who pledges at least $10 (which gets you the full game upon release) lists you as a referrer, your own pledge is bumped up by $10. So say you list me as the referrer upon pledging, the tier reward I'd get is my own pledge + $10 for each of you. So if the game looks good to you, spread the word. Naturally, this post is made entirely without any financial interest on my part.
  2. It's nearly here, the game a lot of people have been waiting for, including me. I expected them to be asking around £25 for this but no, they ask only for £12 pre-order, £15 on release. I have the sneaky suspicion that it is going to be worth every penny. Buy your copy now, before it goes cold. http://www.gog.com/gamecard/legend_of_grimrock
  3. Has anyone else tried this one? I bought it soon after it was released, and now the updated version is out on Steam as well. So, you play as this strange guy wearing a surgical mask, apparently the only survivor of some kind of a disease that has left the city in ruin and full of zombies (or something similar). I'm not much of a zombie survival fan (Shaun of the Dead is the only zombie movie I really like), and never really played the Silent Hill games which are an obvious influence, but this game has an amazing creepy atmosphere, greatly enhanced by the well done sounds and music. The pixelated 2D graphics style is rather charming as well. I'm especially impressed with the psychological side of the game, as half the time I'm not sure what I saw is real or just the main character going insane. You can check out the browser-based demo here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/superflat/lone-survivor-demo
  4. Carrier command Gaea missions (remake of the 1988 classic) . You can now buy into the beta for £16. I did and I can tell you, that even in beta this game is awesome in the extreme. http://www.carriercommand.com/ Waaaaaagh!! Waaaaagh!!
  5. Okay so I know pretty much everyone is sick of kickstarters after the last month or two being totally overloaded with high profile ones but I thought I'd give these guys a mention because I love games where you play as the bad guys. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/343838885/nekro Another good thing about this one is that unlike many kickstarters this isn't just an idea, they have done a lot of work already, they are in pre-alpha, so there is a lot of information, screenshots and a Q&A about the gameplay. http://darkforgepress.wordpress.com/201 ... mechanics/ It's a real shame these guys seem to have become lost in the recent overload. Personally I am more of a fan of things like kickstarter and indiegogo being used in this way for games, to give that last little push of funding to get a game finished, as it means there is a heck of a lot more information about the game itself and far less of a chance of it turning into vapour ware.
  6. Click here: http://www.baldursgate.com/ More info below from: http://gamebanshee.com/news/107296-baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition-announced.html The countdown on the BaldursGate.com website has finished, but even after waiting for the massive slowdown to pass by, we're not left with a whole lot of information to glean from it. Thankfully, Beamdog's Trent Oster has been busy sharing some information via Twitter, which I'll combine snippets from (along with everything else we know) below:
  7. The Demo has recently been put on Steam. Anyone tried it yet? What are your opinions?
  8. is it just me or is eve online the most boring game ever? ( or close ) 2 and half years on i only log to train skills ( which you can only queue for 24 hours ) and can take MONTHS OF REAL TIME to finish.......... another issue is the community, it looks like the whole griefing player base of the universe is there. camping betcha! money/item scamming yes!!! ( and legal ) betrayal/piracy/spying ? is normal. time consuming........ you got no idea.... vertical step learning curve....(of course ) AAA graphics /storyline, nope, but since it is a space game dx9 graphics would suffice........ expansions who add nothing? yeah basically since i joined. bugs/lag all there. rantings apart who plays eve online for more than 2 years? not many people dont believe the hype, the intro movie is the best and last movie you will see.... the trailers are also fantastic...... but the so called "butterfly effect" is bollocks, you are a dot in a universe and the universe hates you......
  9. According to me great games are the ones you still revisit from now and then and that consumed you lots of time. (not in a particular order) mine are: X-Com EU / TFTD / Apoc Master of Orion 1 & 2 Heroes of the Might and Magic Starcontrol 2 Homeworld and Homeworld Cataclysm Supreme Commander Gary Grigsby's World at War EVE-Online Star Trek Bridge Commander Nexus: The Jupiter Incident X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter Baldur's Gate Diablo Warcraft 1 & 2 Starcraft C&C Dune BFA Minecraft Incubation (i will edit this list as i remember... back to work). Humm TOP 5 in order... hardest than i thought... ok, here goes. 1st: Master of Orion 2. Why? Countless hours that me and my best friend spent hot seating this one in the age of "internet multiplayer just for some" 2nd: X-Com EU Why? Countless hours i've spent playing this one, and is still revisit it after all these years 3rd: Total Annihilation. Why? Again countless hours me and my best friend spent dueling 4th: Stronghold. Why? I always liked to build defenses to withstand an overwhelming force 5th: Minecraft. Why? While recent it "looks" old and with that same playability value of games of old.
  10. wow.. that game feels really bad. Shooting is solid, sort of, but I just cleared the first mission and I'm not sure if I'm going back. Had way more fun with Xenonauts.
  11. I played some JA Online yesterday (I think it's in Beta). All in all, very impressed. I think you guys at Goldhawk should take a look at this game for ideas for a 1.5 version of Xeno. What if fighting aliens wasn't limited to just one organization but instead available to any merc org that wanted to kill some grays? Just thinking out loud here. Could be a way to monetize Xeno and turn it into a F2P down the road. Here come the flamethrowers in 3...2...
  12. Just a flat wow. It went really bad, and now there's a pile of arguments about the current version and if its the real release version. To give an idea of how bad, people have been likening the game to Elemental on release (or even saying its worse). That's horrifying. Hand upon Cthulhu's squamous foot, I seriously hope nothing similar happens with Xenonauts. Just a ramble, no excessive flaming and all that. Feel free to derail after..hmm..say 2 posts?
