I am trying to set up my game on a new machine (identical to the one I was playing on before with the exception of more RAM and a larger hard drive). The launcher works fine, but when I start the game I get several minutes of a black screen, and then the menu comes up as normal. The tabs all have their labels go white when I hover over them, but when I select an option, it does absolutely nothing. This includes the exit game option. I can easily Alt+tab out to manual close the game, but I can't play it as I cannot start a new campaign or load an old one. Steps I have tried so far: -Disable all mods but the 3 X:CE base mods -Uninstall and reinstall the game

This is minor but it keeps bugging me every time I load the game. The 3 military men looking at you when you load the game should have more appropriate rank, such as high officers, at least Major I would say, with one or two being generals/admirals/what have you. I loved the opening to X-Com with the screaming alien in the beginning. Maybe ultimately we can see some sort of homage to that.

When you change the difficulty level, the avatar's rank changes. I like this a lot, but how low the rank is really struck hard. In practical terms a Lieutenant and Captain is right for commanding 30-50 people, but we're talking about a completely new international military, with the potential to grow into multiple bases in a very short time, and even the starting base can grow very fast. Another issue is, if the top man is ranked so low, he won't be able to properly command respect with existing militaries, and politicians. Modern militaries have generals buying uniforms, the whole mindset is that your ability to think is proportional to your rank. As wrong as that might be. If this were real, the goal would be to establish the officers with the expectation of expansion, and with parity of respect. That means the top officer needs to be at least a Brigadier General. It would result in a very officer heavy organization, but only at first. If the organization were actually a subset of another military, then the lowest rank of the top officer could be Colonel. Another aspect just occurred to me, the rank goes up with the difficulty, but shouldn't the rank go down with difficulty? It may seem a bit counter intuitive, but presumably in the harder difficulty, you have less of everything, an everything is harder. One way to spin that is, everything is harder because you, in-universe, has less experience, less political pull, less support in general. As an example, being higher ranked in lower difficulty could explain countries hanging with the Xenonauts longer, against poorly handled invasion activity.

The check boxes when starting a new game seem very hard to check/uncheck. I've only tried with the Iron Man Mode box, since the tooltips one is not able to be changed? (or also very hard to check?). Clicking the text, does not work (although this does work for 'commence operation'). Edit: Also, it can be hard to tell if the box has been unchecked, since the checkmark appears when mousing over the unchecked box.

I want to load a save game in the main menu where I am in ground combat. Clicking on it and the on resume leads to an instant crash.
