  1. It can always be early summer in europe. Now it is equinox. I thought constant summer would at least show axial tilt. Straight line is too amateurish. It is possible to give a formula but map would be changed and i guess it's projection. So lets leave this discussion for a while
  2. Do not mix season change with a general axial tilt. No axial tilt for the globe is not fun and really stupid. While season change is more or less forgivable

  4. I would like to have more planes potentially. This thing cuts their number. How many unique planes will we be able to controll? In apocalypse you could buy up to 10 different apparatus to fight aliens initially and 13 xcom apparatus totally. What is the problem to have more planes? New plane can be added quickly. All art can be done in 2 days, programming would take even less then a day thx to non-hardcode open format. I suppose it is even possible to mod new plane right? P.S.: there are 4 types of computer gamers. I don't know very elegant translation but killer - needs to kill other players or plays on superhard scout - scouts the game world (a lot of planes is very much needed for this type of player) targeter - creates aims he wants to achieve (ie he imagines some situations and frames). He can replay the game many times. Many planes are needed for this type of player I've forgotten the 4th type of player Low orbit plane should be researchable somewhat suicide superlong range micro-ufo killer and F17, Mig32 should have more or less the same purpose but with a different approach as for me
  5. I wanted to invent an eivil sounding sci-fi game resource name. Doom 3 just came out. There was a dr. Betruger scintist. I wanted to have smth similar. Kronaker isotope seemed sophisticated enaugh. This is the story )). Sounds like a german surname. Lets say this is a fictional scintist who was in charge of alien powerplant research after rosswell incident. Xenoblabla would be too much head-on simplistic however the word Xeno itself is fun. Xeno. Give me Xeno. Xeno Isotope ^^
  6. I like a plane durability to be correlated with a hull size. In turn general surviveability can be lowered with armour value. AF-12X would be a little bigger then Mig32 in a hangar and much bigger then F17. It would be not intuitive to make it die qiucker then F17. In xcom the bigger airship the more hp it has. Even skyranger has more HP then intenceptor.
  7. In russian Alen' woul be read as deer which in russian (and other slavic) slang means asshole and has a lot of even worce synonyms. This word can be applied to computer gamer very easily. Especially if he tries to get more alenium lol. Ie this thing is called smth like assholium. This can make the game less popular in russia. It sounds really wired --- When i was going to make a computer game of my own i've invented the similar substance name: Kronaker isotope / Kronacker isotope May be that would be ok for Xenonauts? Alenium is awful

Note parameters marked with italics differ from v9.0 - F17 and Mig23 ---------------------------------------------------- Supposed to be the Xenonauts working horses. F17 has better armour but a little worce durability as it is smaller. It is just a matter of taste what plane to use. Mig looks more powerful but F17 has a lot of small advantages. It lands without burning engines or uses a secondary low propulsion engine. It has a narrow cone radar so it can not detect new ufos on its own. It's refueling and repearing takes longer then for any other aircraft. Top speed 6,200 km/h (1.72 km/s) Range 43k km Accelertion 420km/h (human is unlikely to survive more without antigravitation inside a cabin) Turn rate 10 deg/sec Amour 25 (allien alloys basic integration. without research of allien alloys) Durability 100 (small target) Hardpoints - rotary missile launcher 3x rockets or laser/plasma Manufacture cost 400k + engineers time, 50 allien alloys Maintenence cost 60k $ How this fast plane performs: 1. It accelerates not very fast so it needs some time to gain its superspeed. 2. When engaged with enemy it has only some seconds to shoot one rocket or two before a close passing by. It does not have time to manuver or to disangage. If it engages battleship accidently then it's dead. 3. It can not change it's course quickly on the geoscape also. It would have to make a big circle if ufo changes it's course dramatically ---------------------------------------------------------------- All alien ships should be able to fly with a speed greater then 5400 km/h (1,5 km/s) but it just should depend on the mission they perform. In the beginning of the game aliens should usually fly slowly.
  9. YF-12 has only 3 missiles onboard. It could have a good range and speed but have a low ammo to fight alliens. And mig 32 can be more manuverable i.e. be more like F17. As for low orbit interceptor it should use some allien technologies but the basic ones ie it is far less advanced then firestorm or lighning in xcom and it does not substitute MIG32/F17/YF-12. Because it is expensive and not cost effecient.
  10. Mig32 seems not so much advanced to be a tech. I would like to have a low orbit intercetor instead. Based mostly on earth techs. Very fast small plane that can go around the earth but very expensive, having only 1 or 2 hardpoints and low HP. Well if it can go above 200 km parabolic orbit then i would like alien ship to approach and capture this small plane with a pilot inside. That would be very scary for player.
  11. I agree F17 may look manuverable but you would not guess that it is armoured until you read ufopedia. Mig 32 looks more armoured and i was very surprised to see that it has less HP.
  12. I don't want to remove F17 and i dont want Mig32 to be more powerfull then interceptor in xcom. But what do we currently have? Mig 32 looks more armoured, fast and advanced on the picture. It has more hardpoints. If you compare pictures of this two planes what plane would you choose to fight alliens? Mig32. F17 should not be cheaper. No.
  13. Well i was thinking about the difference between this two planes just recently. Mig 32 looks more armoured btw. Honestly i was going to mod the game to make F17 completely useless as a pistol in xcom. Don't you think it is a good idea? In xcom and xcom apoc 50% of initial stuff is completely useless. Why do you need a pistol, heavy canon, smoke grenade, incendiary rocket, interceptor canon? Just for fun. Player may think it can have some advantages against aliens but unfortunetely it is almost useless. Say F17 has better electronics, fly by wire and two cupholders. Effect of this advantages is not explained very well but lets say if you install stingray missile on F17 it would have +50% hit rate as an undocumented feature. P.S.: plz make it possible to install avalaches on any hardpoint
  14. Well i'm refering to Vladimir Vasiliev book too much. It says that there was a civilization on mars but then it perished. Alien base on mars is smth like a factory. It does not expand it's economy or industrial capacity. It produces aliens and their ships. This factory is smth like a unit. This unit is applying a strategy that is not very flexible. Alien intellect is limited in terms of imagination. The purpuse of the factory is limited. Aliens (sectoids etc) are much more clever then humans but their intellect is castrated. Alien base wakes up somewhy and starts to operate. This is xcom
  15. May be with 3d globe you had a feeling that your interceptors have a good coverage. I don't like superlong ranges personally. May be ufos shoul behave in a different way during initial phase of the game. It is simple to achive regulating average time ufo conducting it's mission. For example interceptor can fly 6 game hrs. Then ufo should be shot down, land, escape into space, or tracking lost during 3-5 game hrs.
  16. Here is a real russian training combat 4 vs 4 footage: I couldn't find such videos in english without music or announcer. It is clear that 1000 phrases of 5 ex-fighter pilots would be too expencive but may be it would be possible to make smth like in sims game. That is just an idea. I don't believe it can be done actually. P.S.: stupid rts-like speach would spoil the game
  17. I like the flavour of this idea. Very special-purpose geräte that is even more sophisticated then initial one. It is smth like if ghost busters are crossing their rays plus one ghost buster is pushing the button in the command center. May be blaster launcher should use the soul/telepathy of it's operator inside of the rocket instead of electronics. If it fails to leave the rocket operator's head explodes. (joke)
  18. +100 In Vladimir Vasilyev enemy unknown sci-fi book (smth like an xcom afteraction report) conventional fighters were widely used. For example here is my qick translation: 1st xcom action: ... "ALERT" "ALERT" "ALERT" ... Our long-range detection and bundeswehr radar surveillance systems have detected unknown flying object. We could not launch intenceptors before the soucer have landed. Now it is watched for by NATO fighter wing. In 15 mins you would be in place. Our expert will tell you smth. Good luck! ... 2nd xcom action: ... January 6th 1999 radars have detected second UFO above mediterranean. Greek fighters have followed it almost until apennines but then both X-com "Intenceptors" arrived. UFO was very small, about 3 meters in diameter and the very first salvo have teared it to shreds. What could explode in that tiny conus? Was it fuel, power plant or ammunition? It's anybody's guess. ... --- In this book the main problem for ordinary intenceptors was speed. However sometimes they managed to shot down ufos. This correlates very good with tobacco stories when ufos are playing with fighters. Also i remember smth like if fighters tried to engage battleships they were not able to kill it nor to run away due their speed limits. May be someone have more ideas about xenonauts airforces and conventional airforces? How should it go?
  19. You play 100% in the same way but there is a big ecosystem around you fighting aliens.
  20. Being programmer i also wanted to make an xcom remake but ok. I had some thoughts of how it should go. Here is a link to the intro for red alert 2 game. From 9th second you can see an airspace map with soviet airforces approaching. I imagine the same thing with 100 ufos coming and with 100 wings of soviet/british/us fighters coming for the intercept. With sinking fleet carriers on the map. With nuclear strikes on the landed alien battleships. With nuclear strikes on the alien infected territory (without player control). I want the map to be overwhelmed with action at least at the certain stage of the game. Also i want to see alien battleships on the low orbit and to use nuclear missiles on them. Plus i want to see dead cosmonauts [ATTACH=CONFIG]635[/ATTACH]
  21. It heals 5hp per action. You have to click on the medkit then click on the injured soldier. If the soldier have lost 30 hp then you have to repeat this procedure 6 times. This is much worce then click-click-click in xcom:eu
  22. In xcom eu medkit was much more fun. 1. It was interresting to see the body scan 2. It was less annoying to use medkit
  23. I thought about emergency landing or eject command during the battle to loose your aircraft but save the team. But it won't be fun to press this button. Ok about alien motivation. It should not look too much suicidal. Btw it would be fun to have some ufos following your chinook/intenceptors but avoiding to engage. P.S.: I don't like how close interceptors are getting to ufo without starting a battle. It would be more fun to have it like in xcom eu
  24. I think it should depend on the demage beyond hp. I.e. battleship can evaporate entire chinook with it's crew if they do not eject at the time they spot it on the radar
