  1. Also it looks like if you have negative space in your factories you can't assign workers to projects. Perhaps this is related.
  2. That is definitely true. It seems that if free lab space is less than or equal to 0 "start research project" button stops working. And yes, you can have lab space in the negatives now.
  3. I don't think there is a "quick fix" for this issue, at least not without sacrificing game quality. It all depends on how much resources you want spend resolving this. Anyway, there are two ways I can think of fixing it. 1. Implement a mission Auto-Resolve feature. 2. Develop a "close air support" air-craft branch, or flying drones. This will give the player the ability to air-strike mission zones with smart weapons instead of sending troops. If the player wants to "skip missions" he can do so and still get the benefits at the price of investing into the technology and manufacturing for that benefit. This might make ground troops obsolete if you don't balance the pros and cons well. You can do something like: air strikes are quicker, and because of your quicker response the nation reputation increase more, but salvage value is decreased based on the level of your smart weapons. That way the player has to balance between higher income now, and/or long term income.
  4. I don't think expanding and trying something different is the same thing as screwing it up. Sometimes they go hand in hand, but it doesn't seem that this time it is the case. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say that with 100% certainty.
  5. This understandable, but one of my main concerns with games like these is that most of the character development tends to happen early in the game. In late game, improving character stats will become meaningless or maxed out. I think so far the only thing you can do is change equipment and classes (I could be wrong), which is good but might not be enough. In some of the "previous games" psionic powers were used as a way to add more late game character development. Please consider adding more late game character development (doesn't have to be psionic powers). In my experience playing these types of game, many of them started to get tedious late game because of this. I got the "ah, crap, not another tactical mission" feeling. Games that are Just Skinner boxes, aren't good, but neither is having no (limited) reward system late in the game. There are other ways to fix this issue (other than adding character development), but please consider my suggestion.
  6. Since Xenonauts are a "special force" I don't think it is unrealistic that they would gain rank quicker than standard military units. I mean in the military, what is considered a "field rank" or "combat able rank" depends on the Military Occupational Specialty. For example Explosive Ordinance Disposal Experts tend to have high ranked people out in combat situations because EOD units are usually very small. Aviation officer usually fly combat missions till colonel. There are several ways you can be more accurate thought, if you want. 1. Use only Enlisted Ranks. In some branches, like the United States Marine Corps (not sure about the Royal Marines), it is possible for enlisted Marines all the way up to E9 (depending on the MOS) to be in combat situations. 2. If you use officer, go up to Captain (not the Navy variety) or use Warrant Officer Ranks. Soldiers fighting Aliens would have to be technical experts in order to utilize and salvage alien technology. Warrant Officer ranks would make sense. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrant_officer_%28United_States%29 *EDIT* I recommend something like: Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer , Chief Warrant Officer
  7. There are only a few good ways to use the hunter, in my opinion. 1. With it's speed and sight it is a very good scout. Just don't use up all the movement points scouting. You can spot aliens, let your soldiers kill them from beyond their visual range, or move back (or behind cover). 2. Early Game "Terrain Modification" - I usually use it to knock walls down, so that I can flank Aliens, or use it to destroy cover that aliens are hiding behind from "Beyond Alien Weapon Range". However, because vehicles can't "improve" like soldiers can, I try to avoid using vehicles until I can level up most my soldiers to decent level. Usually by then, there are better vehicles. *Edit* Almost forgot. I read somewhere that the Hunter AC has weaker armor on the sides and back. Not sure if this is still true or not.
  8. If by version 7 you mean 19.7, then they are "slowly" starting get in and out of the UFO. I've only seen the Sebillians do it on normal difficulty. The Ceasan's still don't (at least not that I've seen).
  9. Load the saved game. Open the door with the soldier equipped with the shield, there is an alien right behind the door. Usually when the soldier opens the door he goes through it (I'm not sure if that is part of the game design or a bug, anyway). In this case, the soldier stops. When you shoot the Alien Closest to the soldier with the pistol the game freezes after the first shot. If you move the soldier first, there is no freezing. Screenshots, and save game below. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2f9qq2irz8werim/xenonauts%202013-08-18%2021-21-17-81.bmp https://www.dropbox.com/s/lxtmj01wnlkjt2c/xenonauts%202013-08-18%2021-21-27-29.bmp https://www.dropbox.com/s/puxwvcqxdm21u5e/2013-08-18_21.15.42.sav
  10. *Edit* Not sure why I put Global, I meant Geoscape. There was a small UFO flying around, when I shot it down and clicked on the wreck there were two crashes instead of one with the same number. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mfnhpixboxfot81/xenonauts%202013-08-18%2019-03-54-99.bmp I entered the tactical mission, and the UFO mission was not a small UFO mission, but a medium (or large one). After I completed the mission the other crash site turned into a number like so: https://www.dropbox.com/s/j7our0q64zpbycv/xenonauts%202013-08-18%2020-18-59-37.bmp Clicking on that crash caused the game to stop responding. I have save games for both screenshots. Please let me know if you need them.
  11. I was experimenting with different resolutions in hopes of making some of the text bigger and easier to read, when I came across this bug. The bottom of the Main Screen after the game loads is cut off. I can see only the top portion of (New Game, Load Game, Options). https://www.dropbox.com/s/fx1juluvuaqq5hz/xenonauts%202013-08-17%2011-00-07-98.bmp
  12. So here are some UI suggestions that are not crucial but will make the game less tedious and better (not saying the game is tedious, but there is always room for improvement). 1. Personnel Training Screen and Equipment Screen I find my self clicking back and forth between these two screens quite often when selecting a team. The reason is because: 1) The Personnel Training Screen doesn't display the soldier class Since I can't see the default class of unassigned soldier anywhere I either have to guess (which involves tediously switching between the two screens) or re-asign the class (which is impractical if the soldier's stats aren't suited for the class). I recommend adding an letter Icon that depicts the soldier default class on the Personnel Training Screen. 2. Tactical Combat load screen doesn't prompt the player to click This one is somewhat silly and not that big of a deal, but I think this screen should better inform the player when things are done loading. 3. Text Size The UI text size that gives details on all of the different base windows is way too small. This is also true for the Xenopedia. *EDIT* 4. Soldier Class Icons in Tactical Combat Also it would be nice to be able to tell what the soldier class is in tactical combat. Right now you can do it by the equipped weapon, but if you use custom classes like I do, some of your classes might have the same weapon. 5. Better Friendly Fire Indicator Nothing wrong with the one right now, unless the soldier is behind a fence. Then it is hard to tell if you will hit him or not. 6. More Soldier Class "Letters" This would be nice, and also the ability to delete existing soldier class would also be nice.
  13. I've looked around a forums and didn't see anybody else having this problem, and couldn't find a work around (but maybe I missed it). Whenever I try to take a screen shot in the game it takes a screen shot of my desktop instead. Normally I would provide a screenshot of the bug, but......
  14. One of the first things I want to do with my new forum account is to thank the developers for making another "X-Com clone". I'm not being sarcastic, or trying to demean the game by calling it an "X-Com" clone. I've been playing these games since 1994, and I NEVER get tired of them. This is one of my favorite genres/franchises/whatever you want to call them. I'm always excited when a new one comes out even if turns out to be mediocre or terrible. I've tried most of them; the good ones and the bad ones. I have to say that so far you are doing excellent work. Thank you, and keep making it better!
  15. I think maybe the balance is still being ironed out. If you don't feel like starting over, and you feel comfortable with using cheat engine (which I've found very easy to use in adjusting your balance in this game, which is certainly not the case for all games), or editing configuration files I recommend doing that. It saved me from starting over the dozen or so times that I've bankrupted my organization.... which is very easy to do in some of the game builds.
