  1. They will retain the XML-spreadsheet format that they have if you edit with Excel or a text editor. Maybe there's also way of editing them in the application you're using, this XML Notepad, but I have never used it so I don't know.
  2. Ah. Those files are in some idiotic spreadsheet XML format. You need to use either MS Excel or a free program like LibreOffice, or you can just edit them manually in a normal text editor, although that is somewhat annoying.
  3. What does "can't mod it" mean? You open the file and you edit it - since you're presumably running into a specific problem, you should ask about that.
  4. Do you have a save game with that? Probably something very unusual about the tile the soldier's on.
  5. You're on a break, what are you doing here?
  6. But what if I like having to hunt down a 10 year old compiler??
  7. I hope you've been able to get the psychological help you need and recover from this horrible abuse.
  8. To the point where learning Unity as an experienced programmer is more difficult. Seriously, their tutorials are aimed at complete beginners. Those who know programming also have to sit through long explanations of the very basics of programming - in video form. Ugh!
  9. So speaking with some actual experience involved - it would be pretty much nuts to do OpenXenonauts with such an arrangement. Re-implementing the game from scratch would be a comparable amount of work to developing it in the first place. There's a reason OpenXCom took something like 6 years to develop! It seems to me that there's a much better chance of getting "Xenonauts on a better engine" by modding X2. There may be some big differences between X1 and X2, but the core of the game is still the same, while X2 is built on proper modern tech. It would certainly be easier for mods to change the game in a way that resembles X1, comparing to re-doing X1 from scratch!
  10. Due to how Steam works, branches cannot have separate per-OS versions, so you cannot use the X:CE Steam branch on Linux/Mac. You should get the Windows version of the game including X:CE and run it through Wine. In my experience, it works very well, I know many have been successful in running it so.
  11. Impressive work. Why is the modinfo with those codepoints specified in the entity format? Would it not make sense to have an actual UTF-8 encoded text file?
  12. You can always find some unintended side-effect of how the game works and use it as an exploit. I don't now see the point of fixing the landed terror UFO exploit, that would only happen if you deliberately try to exploit it.
  13. I never knew that about the infantry!
  14. Why the L key? Is it some old function you activated that way?
  15. Should be back up.
  16. Not a chance. Sorry. I'm familiar with the popularity of the game in Russia, as well as the metro system and passengers, but there's no way Xenonauts is coming to Android.
  17. Did it? That would be a mistake if so.
  18. Let it reorganize. I am actually not sure why the dialog box comes up every time the exe is updated, but it does. Also the mods that are bundled with X:CE are already put in the correct order.
  19. Right. I hadn't realized both are showing up, I'll see if I can make the first one invisible.
  20. I have also had the experience, also in some very early versions of the game. There was a time when terror missions were basically Chinook defense missions because every alien would just rush towards it. Note you still have your 8 guys in that picture though! In the original X-Com, there'd be four bodies lying around...
  21. Yeah, I understand the situation. Not worth fixing though in any way.
  22. But is there a research that requires a Psion specifically? I don't recall any. Though this is a fair point, presumably you should be able to autopsy the body of a former prisoner.
  23. But there is no reasonable scenario where you only get a stunned alien and no corpses. There are always many aliens of the same race. If you stunned an alien, you will have also killed aliens of the same race unless you really go out of your way not to.
  24. Right, but those are just text. If it says "sent to research", it doesn't actually do anything unless it's your first kill of that race (in which case you get an autopsy). For killed aliens it says "sent to research", for live ones it says "executed" but in terms of the game all bodies just get discarded.
  25. You only get to capture one alien per race. If you've captured one Caesan, all others will be executed. In addition you get to capture the few high-rank aliens that the game lists as objectives.
