Because they called it XCOM. They did it to use the marketing power behind this name. But by doing so they also build certain expectations for the xcom hardcore base. It's a decent game, but it's a bad Xcom.

I thought we liked this game because of the depth, micromanagement, etc and not for the fancy UI. Let them focus on the important stuff like the optimization of the AI. The UI is fine.

I like the idea, but I suppose I need to evaluate it in-game I'll be ok either way. Can we put it down for Xenonauts 2?

Does anybody alse prefer the old globe style geoscape? I know I'm a bit anal here but it's not realistic that aircarfts go at the same speed at the equator and the pole in a planisphere...

Guys, What if civilians could be armed during terror missions or missions in populated areas? There is an alien invasion in your town. You panic, pull out grandad's double barrel rifle and shoot at anything that gets too close to your house. Including soldiers, local forces and other civilians. Thoughts?

SC is 2 years out... I really hope they deliver what they promised...

Better too hard than too easy! You can always make things easier al lowed difficilty levels by reducing the number of aliens, their life or armour.

IMO the only improvement they made over the original Xcom is the graphics and cinematics. Everything else is a step back. IMO. Of course they perfectly reached their target; they did a great marketing campaign to capture the attention of the xcom enthusiasts + simplified the whole game so any baby with a console (and 2 thumbs) can play it. Loads of money for them. But you all know that if the name of the game was different it would have had a freaction of the actual success. (btw can you rename Xenonaut to something more xcom like y-com, z-com, unknown enemy kickass...?) I feel much more engaged with Xenonauts than with EU. One day I would love to see Xenonauts with the graphic of Firaxis' Xcom. That would be awesome.
