  1. [video=youtube;Swi-kyH6RH0] I'm not sure what happend here, but the result is... nightmare stuff I have an idea though. I was breaching the UFO with two guys, and one of them threw a gas-grenade. Unlucky as he is it fell short and stunned my assault-trooper which carry a c4 pack on his belt. So I believe maybe, that the flashbang that was thrown before the explosion (that also fell short) activated that c4 pack? I have no idea if that actually can happen in the game, but it is the only solution I can come up with. Or the aliens have built some kind of deadly door-trap
  2. Chris. I have a question for you. How many times have you played your own game from start to finish?
  3. Congrats guys! Really looking forward to play the full game. Been waiting for several years now
  4. Goldhawk should buy the silent storm engine and make something great out of it
  5. Same problem here. Hoping for a quick fix, or a patch. Impossible to try 19.3.
  6. "considered simply removing the current air combat entirely" So you guys considered it, but came to the solution to keep it or is it still being discussed? Because I would miss it, and honestly it would make the game... lackluster in a way. Getting featured removed is not good. And one more thing. Is the decision to have this auto-recovery thing final, as in that it's set in stone and that the game will ship with this "feature" now?
  7. I hope they change to unity for their next game. They don't have to do another X-com inspired game, but I hope they stay with the turned-based genre.
  8. It's like a alien tet-offensive, almost. I can really see it.. Hungover Xenonauts scrambling around the base trying to find thier weapons, slipping on egg toddy and what not Never had my base raided myself though, so.. I guess I'm looking forward to it.
  9. In the middle of the second month (I think) the alien invasion has caused 470 deaths haha. Not the greatest invasion ever I would say.
  10. I use them. They have saved the lifes of my Xenonauts agents many times My assault and rifleman has smoke grenades. 1 grenade, and 1 smoke for the regular rifleman. Assault has a shotgun, smoke, grenade, flashbang and c4.
  11. Am I alone in liking the air to air combat mini-game? Seems most people here dislike it, no matter if you like immortal interceptors or not. And on that subject. I don't understand why loosing a plane is so terrible? The old games had the same mechanic, and people "survived" that game. Take a look at X-com Apocalypse. Planes and other vehicles was expensive as hell, but they still could be destroyed. And that game had very unforgiving air to air combat. Part of the challenge and fun in my opinion - you know the whole, fighting a uphill battle from the get go.
  12. I tried a freeware hex editor and loaded a save. But it still looked like demon talk to me. What hex editor do you use, so you easily change name, nation and such without destroying the save?
  13. I hope they nail that cyberpunk, dystopian feel that the first syndicate had.
  14. I understand exactly what you are saying. I was in your shoes a year or so ago, but then I discovered kickstarter. There is a lot of games in development that looks fantastic and has that old school feel to it. Some examples. Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, Xenonauts ( ), Shadowrun Returns (comes out this month), The banner saga, Jagged Alliance: Flashback, and probably a lot more that I can't rememeber. I mean, the future used to look bleak, but check it out now. So many games coming out, and it sure looks like turned based-games are making a come back in full force! Big games / publishers feels like Hollywood to me. Most of the stuff they produce is shit, but sometimes you get something good.
  15. Damn, that is a lot of bitterness Sure, the industry has changed, but what you are describing is some kind of dystopian gaming future and not the reality. You just have to know where to look, and avoid those triple A games. Lots of indie games still feel old school, and even if it (god forbid hehe) has achievements it's just a gimmick.
  16. I for one don't want them to change the system to something XP based. I love how it is now. Feels more dynamic and natural. Soldiers that fight, gets better, that simple. The XP system with perks feels so gamey to me. For example. I loved the experience system in Medieval War 2. Your king, generals and so on gained random perks and disadvantages dependent on what you did with them. It added so much immersion to the game. Now in Shogun 2 you gain XP and you get to choose what kind of stat increase he would get. It just feels gamey, and takes away alot of the immersion.
  17. My first real mission. Rented the game for playstation 1. The loading times was incredible long, but so worth it. Anyway. Me and my friend got a desert mission. It was our first ever. To cut it short the mission ended in true X-com horror. 2 survivors trying to carry the wounded and dead back to the ship, only to be cut down by a hidding sectoid. We were completely stunned how brutal the game was, and the depth it had. I was not much of a pc gamer back then, couldn't afford one, so me and lmy friend was used to pretty simple console games. Well after that we knew we were in for a real treat.
  18. JA2.. only one of the best games ever created. If you want to be sure to be able to play it, get it from gog.com. Bought my game there. Drm free and all
  19. Ah, thanks for the answers. Two more questions 1. Do aliens bleed like your own soldiers does? 2. What does it mean at the end of a mission when it tells you that you sold stuff? Does the game automatically sell your loot? I would rather keep those plasma pistols.
  20. So, I have finally bought the game on steam. I couldn't resist. And I must say, so far it's fantastic! Brings back so many memories. Still. I have some questions. 1. I have noticed that all the characters gets a stat increase after each mission. Those who survive at least. But I'm wondering, is it possible to see those stat increases anywere on the geoscape / base menu? 2. You can only have 8 soldiers on the ship. But I'm wondering why? It looks like there is enough room on the ship. I don't have a tank, so I should be able to cram in some more soldiers right? Is this hardcoded in some way? I had some more questions, but I have been drinking.. so I forgot them
  21. haha, glad you liked it. Don't think I ever successfully destroyed a base in that playtrough... Damn, mind attacks and rocket launchers
