That can't be it. Eating napalm causes explosive flattulance, not a "warm feeling". Well, I guess explosive flattulance could be considered a HOT "feeling". And a very deadly one.

Phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range?
TrashMan replied to Max_Caine's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
IHMO, the research costs should be higher in the final game. Breezing trough researhc should be a no-no, even if you have a 100 scientists working on it. Personaly, I'd add a minimal research time to every research item, and no matter how mmuch money and people you throw at the problem, you can't go lower than that. -

Adjustible solder stats and ratios
TrashMan replied to TrashMan's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Very few design decisions are ever for "everyone"...if ever. -
What "role"? There is no specialized role. Wepon effectiveness depends on accuracy stat, not weapon used. Your soldier who has been nothing but a sniper the whole game, will make just as good a machinegunner. There is no real destinction in weapon skills (as there aren't any).

Technicly, the risk of auto-battle is a good reason to have Team2.

Why the separate burst fire mode?
TrashMan replied to Comassion's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Well, since a burst itself can be an accurate or wildy spraying one.... I'd rather have fire mode and attempted accuracy separate. -
I'd say yes. They are pretty much the worlds best.

Phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range?
TrashMan replied to Max_Caine's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Ya. Let's not forget - Newton is the deadlist sunovab*** in space. Dunno if any of you guys heard of UFO:AI. It's a free X-Com like game and I pitch in and so some work on it. Initially the devs had no plans for high-end human weapons, but I went and modeled a coilgun sniper rifle anyway, added it to the game and forwarded the files to them. They added it to the game and it's currently the deadliest weapon in game in terms of sheer accuracy and power. Never underestimate good old-fashioned tech. Effectiveness is all that matters. -

This could also belong in the modding sections, but it is a modification of the stock game necessary to make modding this possible. What I mean by this? - The abiltiy to set the ratios (percent chance) for different soldiers to appear. Right now every nationality and sex has hte same chance of poppingup. Let's say I want to set the male-to-female ratio to 4:1 (thus, that for every female soldier on the rooster, there are 3 males). Lets say I want to set the US to everyone else ratio as 2:1 - the ability to set stat ranges for specifc soldeir groups. For example, I want to make all males stronger then, and all females having better reactions. Right now it seems all stats are in the 40-60 range for everyone. Possibly even set them on a national basis if on is so inclined... AFAIK, these things are hard-coded so far.
-
Are those moddable? And by that I mean ratio of which type of soldier you're likely to get. From which country, which sex ,etc... ATM it looks like the male/female ratio is 50/50. I want to change that. Possibly even the specific stat range for each sex. Also, possibly ratios of different nationalities.

Supression should instantly re-charge is the individual is not shot at for a turn. And it would re-charge faster in genral. 2, maybe 3 turns to get it back up to full from 0.
-
Well, that's how it works IRL Sherlock. Supression isn't about accuracy - it's about throwing tons of lead in your general direction. And even the most average soldier will have no trouble doing that. More than enough shots will land clsoe enough to count anyway. So no, the system makes sense. There IS a connection between a weapon supression and ammo. It isn't hard-coded one, it's a manual balance one. The amount of surpression will roughly match the caliber and number of bullets in the burts.

The sight of such horrors warms my black heart. But it's not enough....Mayhaps we should throw some more buddhist civiliants into the fire?

Why is Xenonauts Set During the Cold War?
TrashMan replied to Quartermaster's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Dude, who ever said everyone would know? I said the GOVERNMENTS and the MILITARY would know. They would know. They had extensive spy networks, and reports coming in from all sides. (they didn't have internet, but tehy did have phones and cammeras and airplanes) So yes, they would know aliens are out there and they would know just how big of a threat they would be -
You could also have a different fire more altogether. Supression after all, is intended to keep the opponent pinned. It's different from an aimed shot or even a regular burst in a way. Youre not so muhc trying to hit an enemy, as your'e trying to keep it from moving, by shooting at the places where he would pop up.

Why is Xenonauts Set During the Cold War?
TrashMan replied to Quartermaster's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
The Iclandic Incidet is as solid as proof as it needs be. A alien craft that was only brought down by use of nukes, and few aliens that deciamated entire regiments on both sides... Yeah. I'd say the military and goverment would be VERY well informed. They don't need YouTube for that. -
Why is Xenonauts Set During the Cold War?
TrashMan replied to Quartermaster's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
You sound too pessimistic. Aliens landing and attacking would be enough to turn ANY head. -
More shots is effectively the same as less shots, but with higher chance to hit. By your own words, supression doesn't increase the chance to hit, so where does this "almost certanty" come from?
-
Ship overkill may be a bit much.
TrashMan replied to Comassion's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Indeed...it wasn't that hard to figure out. The only thing that was throwing the deduction process off was the fighters. Overkill was the first thing that came to my mind, so I treid to carefully bring one down with just one fighter with a cannon. And I did. And it exploded. And then I figured something is whacky. -
Yes, but you can get more potential bang for the same amount of AP's this way, thus actually making supression fire more appealing. Assuming he moves out of cover. And what happens if he is surpressed in the open? A reaction fire that MAY happen. Or may not. Which is what I'm talking about. You are sacrificing a guaranteed use of AP's for a "maybe" with no real gain. If the unit is surpressed, it already has less accuracy.
