  1. Yup, it's called the "Satellite Uplink" So that seems likely.
  2. Dude, from the look of the site hosting those pics you got a 50-50 chance of getting ACTUAL herpes.
  3. I have seen Disaster Girl before, it's just that you can never be free of her gaze. Nothing can inoculate you to her complete lack of humanity. Also the one that I saw was her as a girl scout.
  4. I think the point of raising the money was so they could hire people to do all the new stuff that they promised in the Kickstarter and not have the development schedule affected by the new features. That's just my guess though, Chris?
  5. My god, that girl has the most creepy stare ever. You can see the dead soullessness smouldering behind her eyes. That dead stare that screams to light the world on fire. It chills me to the bones.
  6. Yeah, no, onion news is definitely a satirical site. As for the whole thing about American media... Meh, I actually agree on that. It's a goddamn travesty, but what can you do?
  7. I think he's talking about how Laser Cells require Alenium to produce.
  8. +1 on the post above me Okay, that clarifies things. So what you're saying is it's not even separate but equal, one class of people are openly seen as being inferior despite still being fit for duty. You're right, that's much better. as for "unit discipline" well that's funny.
  9. Ah, separate but equal? Yeah, that's always worked in US history, absolutely nothing can go wrong with that. As for the mod, looks interesting though I'm at a loss for why it's still going if Chris already confirmed female soldiers in the game. Is this to give them their own BattleScape sprites?
  10. I'm just going to say this, then duck and cover: When people try to back up their own beliefs or the norms of there own social/cultural background by saying it's "the natural way of things" or something to that effect, 99.99% of the time they are, in fact, full of shit.
  11. This is true, apologies, I was up into the wee hours and suffering from a serious case of sleep-deprived-madness, so my brain passed "pun" back to me instead of "double entendres", sorry for the mix up. At least it was just an off by one error. Boom, programming joke, oh snap son!
  12. Okay, finally managed to get an unexploded power core, but that was once out of about 5 or 6 tries, much less then 40% so you might want to check on the code for that, make sure everything's functioning correctly (no pun intended) I'm gonna start a new game soon, and I'll let you know my success rate that time around just to make sure. EDIT: I was up late! What do you want from me, actual comedic material?!
  13. Actually this brings up some questions that I've been wondering too, so cool. Speaking of which, stupid question probably, but in terms of the GeoScape UI update does anyone know if there are plans for a 3D world map like in the original UFO Defense?
  14. Hey, so I've been playing the public demo (waiting on my Desura key after kickstarter) but I've been running into some oddities in the game, and I was wondering if these were bugs on my end, features not implemented yet, or me just sucking. First, UFOs never land, I always have to shoot them down. Again wondering if this was a bug or a it just isn't in v10.2/Public Demo This leads into my second problem: Because I have to shoot them down, when the scout ships start showing up (scouts, not light scouts) and I shoot them down, the power source always blows up, which means I don't get a power source, meaning I can't research stuff that I'm gonna start needing really soon. Research I'm missing out on: UFO power source, alenium, alien alloy fabricator, laser weapons, and anything else I don't know about. Anyway, thanks for hearing me out, and I appreciate the help and understanding.
  15. Agreed. The quoted definition above is so vague and broad that you could literally classify any type of gameplay as R/P/S with it. As for Inventory. Eh, different strokes I guess. I don't know yet how that's actually gonna affect the game. I'm gonna withhold final judgement until I can get my hands on the actual game, but I have a feeling squad size won't actually be that big of a deal. You can still lay down suppresion, have your frontline guys move up while having a sniper on overwatch, it's just that you'll be ordering less people around to do it.
  16. This is a video game. And yes, magic suppressive bullets that pins the aliens and doesn't do damage unless they move directly into the line of fire. just like r̶e̶a̶l̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶e̶ Xenonauts.
  17. Okay, I'm new to the forums. Having discovered Xenonauts a few months before and checking up on it more recently to find a public demo, looks great, should be really fun by the time it hits beta. Now, the actual post. I have been paying close attention to the news coming out of Firaxis about X-COM, and I do in fact have my own trepidations, however: I've heard some phrases thrown around, and I don't think the people using them actually know what they mean, or they are using them without any kind of context. The most egregious example if this is 1. Rock, Paper, Scissors gameplay. From what I have seen of the game in the press materials so far what we in fact have a dynamic of is "Troops do damage to aliens, enough damage kills aliens and vice versa. Damage is based on weapon stats, character stats and force multipliers such as cover advantage, height advantage, flanking and so on." This is not rock paper scissors. This is rock paper scissors: Knight beats barbarian archer beats knight barbarian beats archer this is an example from an old strategy game, bonus points for whoever knows what it is. There is no examples of "Heavy beats floaters, but berserkers beat heavy, but sniper beats berserker, floaters beats sniper..." Yeah you get the idea. 2. WoW Special abilities. I don't know if you've actually played WoW, but in it there are literally dozens of abilities for each class, and the entire combat system is based around it, to the point where anyone who plays for any extended period will get into repetitive hot-key loops in almost any fight because those skills work well together, e.g. Movement slowing ranged attack, stat debuffing ranged shot, direct damage ranged shot, another different direct damage ranged shot, close range finisher. This is not what has been seen from X-COM so far, what we have seen is passive abilities such as for the sniper which allows him to move and shoot in a single turn, another passive sniper ability which allows him to shoot at any enemy that any other squad member has line of sight on, and a suppression ability for both heavies and support soldiers which functions similarly, and serves almost the exact same purpose, as the planned suppression system GoldenHawk has in mind for Xenonauts. These are all abilities that give you more tactical options to get into a position to attack from, not superpowers that must be mashed to get anything done to the point where a basic attack insubstantial. 3. Consoles is teh dummed down. Yay, now we get into the real thing that will hack people off immediately. I will leave the general "Consoles are for stupids" sentiment alone, if only in the interest of not being immediately murdered on a board for a primarily PC game. So instead let's look at "X-COM is being dumbed down for the console-tards". First off, something to keep in mind is that input wise, the original X-COM was in fact very simple. Click your dude, click somewhere else to move, click dude, click weapon, click alien to shoot. Some buttons on the menu bar which can easily be mapped to a controller, that's it. In fact (I may be shooting myself in the foot here if it turns out this sucked) but I believe the original X-COM was mapped to a controller for its PS1 port. Now, they may have streamlined a lot, but I have seen nothing to indicate that those decisions were because it was being developed for console, it was because Jake Soloman, the lead designer, honestly thought they would make the X-COM better, or at least his version of X-COM. Remember, this is Firaxis, a historically PC based game company, they aren't afraid of having complexity at the expense of a PC only title. Now, the streamlining of pretty much everything else is more subjective, so I'll leave that mostly alone. Except for one thing. Just because it's streamlined does not mean it won't be good, yes it may not have the inventory, or near the number of stats, but if it demands that you make thoughtful strategic/tactical decisions it can still be a good game, and yes, it can still be X-COM. As for art style, just keep in mind that the original game had the ad line "... with animated cutscenes using a new Manga-esque art style." Read: Anime. And I think a lot more people would be upset if the new game took its art direction from that. In closing... So yeah. The more you know, and knowing is half the battle. GI JOES!! Quick EDIT: To the person above me, you're sure it's a purely to do with a console based memory problem, and not because Saint Row 3 is a poorly developed piece of crap? There are plenty of other console games that have released weapon packs that are functional with the rest of the game.
