  1. Comparing this to X-Com EU where the first month very well could go by without a single UFO in the skies(unless maybe you scouted very thoroughly.) it feels more like a instant full scale invasion than a slow growing threat as in X-com. I have no complaints about the many single scouts appearing, that feels logical. But i think Alien hunter fighter wings should appear perhaps as escort only for bigger ships or when a solid human target could be verified by the aliens. Say if you send your fighters after a scout, or Chinook for a chrashite, then out of the blue the Aliens, if they detect you, send down a fighter squadron. Then you can respond to this. Hopefully destroying both the arriving fighters and the scout, or saving the chinook. Shortrange fighters and interceptors should be sent to intercept, not to appear all the time. Or maybe if the Aliens have an Air superiority mission then showing up in force over a certain area for a short period of time. This would make the fighting occur less often. I also think there should be the odd chance of larger UFO:s showing up alone or more often landed during abductions or other activities. As it is now i rarely get sightings of landed ships. I now this is far from balanced yet, but this is a view on how it could work. As it stands now dogfights quickly become a shore and many of them feel pointless. Perhaps you could field some sort of SAM sites (fixed or mobile) developed from later game tech. You would place them like bases and pay a quite hefty pay for them. And also maybe upkeep would be heavy. (Just so you couldnt field a shitload of these all over the globe) Then you would place them where you really felt they were strategically viable. And if UFOs are detected within their range you could simply have a new choice in the intercept window "Deploy laser/plasma AA battery." Of course all nice alien tech would be destroyed, but later on i guess you would wish you could just blow those smaller pesky ships out of the sky, since you got the stuff already. And of course a active Alien commander might locate your little artillery park or mobile ground force and return you the favor with his battleship, wasting you some 800.000 or so in cash. Another nice little game of chess In short, a quick means of getting rid of the to many dogfights, without the need to ignore the enemy. After all its our Earth, we build a nice laser artillery park were we want to!
  2. Cant do much else than agreeing with Loki. Last time i did play more was around version 8 or 9. This is a complete different experience! Love the suppression and hyper velocity. As for you Moonie, i havent had a single crash and i played for 2 hours yesterday. Now i am not gonna touch it until release. No story spoilers, i wanna be shocked by the shit i am gonna see, cant wait for the larger UFOS.
  3. Hmm, strange, it doesn't work for me. Tried both left and right shit. Maybe some keybindings got corrupted for me? I havent fiddled around in any files though. Thanks for the reply as usual. Guess i will have to scribble down all those dead alien scum and downed corvettes myself. Even though the corvettes themselves are the ones downing me right now. Keep up the good work!
  4. I can understand the wish to protect your troops. But reading the Icland incident novella and the effects of Alien weaponry upon main battle tanks i wouldn't recommend driving APC:s in street combat with such an opponent. APC are actually mostly used too transport troops quickly in wide open areas while protecting them from shrapnel and small arms fire. The combat in Xenonauts is small squads in small mostly crowded and dense areas. And from a gameplay perspective i am of the same opinion as Gorlom. I don't really see how an APC would add to the games atmosphere. The maps aren't big enough. Are you gonna load troops up drive two streets and then unload? It would feel "crowded" with troop carriers on such small maps. Jeeps with visible crews would also make a lot of sprite rendering for little gain.
  5. 1. Is there anyway to give interceptors or aircraft several waypoints in a row? As it is now its quite tedious, if you wish to scout an area. The classical "shift + click away" would be nice. 2. Whats up with the casualty counter in the top right. How does it work? Does it count the casualties by incidents only? Say if the aliens attack an aircraft liner over soviet union with "82 dead." Or is it some random number that keeps increasing whatever happens? Anyways i noticed that if you keep cursor over the sea it gives you the total. But i had an terror site that was struck by tactical nukes because of my failure to intervene . And the thousands of dead should then be added to the total casualties. But they didnt. Something to implement. Otherwise it makes the counter a bit strange. 3. I guess this haven't been balanced yet. But from 2 games, my 2 first months i got three terror sites, all of them were way out of range for my Chinook. Its ok that that happens. But it also feels a bit strange that i cant react to something thats is so catastrophic for my funding. Was it just coincidence or are there no terror attacks in Russia and Europe? 4. And for some fluff. I am very interested in a casualty screen of the war itself that is. A simple screen summing up some statistics of Alien and Xenonauts casualties. How many ships you have downed and lost, of what class and so on. I always found that keeping track of this in strategic war games feels essential for me, from an immersive perspective. Cant really motivate it in any other way than i think it would be great! Haven't played any builds for a long while since i don't wanna spoil the final product for myself. But the suppression system seems awesome, and so does my sniper round passing straight through the Alien! Great work! Cheers.
  6. Aleksi u rock! The new day ground combat music is amazing! You nailed the X-Com feeling there. Even slightly more dark. Hence perfect. And the Aircombat theme is even better than before. I know i sound like a suck-up. But i have no criticism to put forth.
  7. Actually the possibility of it being a bot struck me half way writing. Since it sounded like commercial. Glad to amuse you
  8. "Mostly" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKdocYeSqTA
  9. I think you can wait a few years instead, since scientists just recently unveiled "the secrets of the skin"? Claiming that soon, the anti ageing cosmetics, will take a big leap. Personally i am interested in neither, since the Chinese make very noneffective and extremely morally questionable anti ageing stuff from various soon to be extinct plants and animal life, which i use in an abundance since i think my skin being young is equivalent of the life of several "white tiger claws cremes" Is this you first post by the way? In a forum for UFO nerds?
  10. Newt: "They mostly come at night....mostly"
  11. That was written with somewhat of a jokingly approach. Only somewhat. And i guess my girlfriend would be a bit sad and confused if i brought someone with me home. Ok then i have completely missed the female civies.
  12. OK i have just been out drinking a beer and doing some dancing in a nightclub. Now i am convinced there should be NO female soldiers in Xenonauts. And no male either. People of both gender are fucking retarded and should be locked away. Come Alien horde! Come with your flaming sky wagons and rid this world of humanity and of her own misery. Come with a new word and a new dawn. Suddenly i realize that the "Cult of sirius" was just misanthropy made religious. Now where is my fancy green body suit? Ok fine, its not realistic to have females in the most superior elite fighting force in the world. But then again its not real its a game. Maybe some females in the base UI pictures also? And i would really like female civies. The way female solider are implemented i guess its not a terrible workload on anyone else than the portrait guy. And i would suppose they could easily be modded out of the game for the ones who want this to be a guy thing. So no problem for me atleast. Thanks for giving me some opinions!
  13. Ohh i see... lame. Not that i feel that you must be able to attack children. Just for realism and immersion and all. But i guess sometimes one must just accept the fact that we live in an anxious and slightly retarded world sometimes Actually i think the guys with shorts and white t-shirts in original X-com were supposed to be young boys. Quite tall for that age perhaps but i always saw them as youngsters.
  14. One thing i would much rather want than female soldiers in this game are female and child civilians. That would be great for the fear and horror factor of the game, seeing children and women being mowed down in the streets by Sebillians. As now, Xenonauts streets are purely made of men. And that is a lot more strange, than having no women in the most elite fighting force of the world.
  15. I guess you are more likely to break into the "Games are politics category" then. Xenonauts is art in many ways women or not. And i dont agree with you at all when you say games have been about men. I can give you many examples of adventure games or roleplaying games of high quality that has women in them. Even some strategy games. Without being sexist about it at all, unlike the softporn movie Mass effect And in those games the women did get same sprites or animations as the men. Cause IF chris implement women, he should do it right. Portraits and picture in equipscreen is not a good way to show "half the worlds population" that you invite them to join.
  16. Hmm okey. I could agree upon this. I for one just started my second ME play through as a woman. Mostly because the female actor is 50 times better than the male counterpart. But this is strategy gaming, not character based, as ME for example. Yes more female gamers indeed. But without any research to back my claim, i think i can safely say that they are still relatively "thin on the ground" when we are speaking turnbased strategy . Anyways its beside my point (because i am not against women in games), and that being i want it motivated with more than just catering to female gamers and nostalgia if i am gonna see it take a shitload of project time from more important gameplay stuff unopposed. There are much more important stuff to focus on i believe. But then again, if a majority of the community really want Goldhawk to spend time on this, then i will shut up and let the girls fight also. In short; i am worried a relatively pointless detail will take a lot of resources, and i wanna hear people argue their motivations.
  17. I think they are Caused by UFO:s being present in the area. Often times you can see events spawning when fighters appear. I guess events will change along the course of the game. SO yes. If you have fighters to spare send them to check, you might find prey!
  18. Now, i know its many threads discussing this. But i didnt want my question to drown in them. Cause i am sincerely curious! Why is it so important for many players with female soldiers? Dont get me wrong, i am in noway opposed to the idea of female soldiers. But Chris has many times stated this is a very work heavy/time consuming thing, for low gain. Perhaps its not a good comparison but if you could choose between one extra tileset instead, or a bigger research tree wouldnt you go for this instead? Myself i wont complain at all about female troops, BUT i would choose Goldhawks time to go on other game mechanics than "chicks with guns" anyday in the week. I mean its not an equality statement. Its a computer game. Is it just because old X-Com had it? How about som Sebillian females also? You would like that. Wouldnt you? You perverts. Cheers!
  19. What about the fjords then? Dont you want a fjord tileset??
  20. Thats too bad. Cause i dont want it to move faster. I want it to move slow, so i can see what my troops see. If for instance an Alien moves by and into a house, then i dont want my screen to flicker. I want to see what he does, and where he moves. Whilst some people wants the hidden movement screen to be over with quick so they can keep fighting. I do believe this is what the entire thread is about-
  21. Or maybe as in total war games. U hit space while whatching the enemys turn an all speeds up. Making game speed very fast should do it. Then its a quick choice for the player, and old X-com farts like me can just lean back and still enjoy the screams of death and the shooting.
  22. Btw why is sounds of footsteps sometimes silent? Most of the time my troops take a few steps then they fall quiet. Is this a bug?
  23. I have to give my praise to you Aleksi for the menu music. All the music ingame is phenomenal and i am glad to hear that you are making more verisons to go with each portion of the game. But the menu music. Man o man. Every time i start the game i put my volume way up and listen to that wonderful apocalyptic score. Its really captures the severity of the situation. Sometimes i just start the game and stare at the faces and listen. Then i Quit again ...haha More of theese doomsday tracks Aleksi. Its SO immersive.
  24. Actually you have tundra instead of artic. Desert is in Xenonauts as old X-com. The ones missing are, mountain, jungle, artic and forest. I could do without Jungle and mountain actually, it would be nice. But i asked Chris and he stated that making biological stuff like trees and such looking good with this tileset system wasnt easy. And mountain i just found quite boring in X-com. But this was before the kickstarter. I hope that he make a change of mind now. I for one would really like forest (wilderness) and artic atleast. Since these ones cover large portions of the earth. And yes pilots and crews with stats for vehicles i would really want also. Would be awesome. Although i don't know how it would be made in a good way for fighter pilots. Cheers!
  25. Just as we are clear. I did realize that was a Joke. I just carried on with it.
