  • Biography
I remember playing through XCom as a kid and enjoying it way too much. I also enjoy other classic games like Star Control 2 and Transport Tycoon Deluxe. The earliest game I ever played was Flightmare off of a 5.25" floppy on my dad's pre-286 running DOS who-knows-what-version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmVmNYcpeOo

Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced!

Some people here need to chill out a bit.

Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced!

Good points, and Xenonauts is definitely the spiritual successor when compared to the titular remake. About the consolization, I hope they don't go too far

What would an XCOM MMOSG be like?

My thoughts exactly! You could even have movement amongst the different classes or tiers so you could try them all out. I think it could be fun

What would an XCOM MMOSG be like?

The idea is that if you were on the Global Board of Directors, you would give orders and others would follow or be fired. If you were a base commander, you would do the same, but at a lower level. It wouldn't be much of a strategy game down at the lower tiers, though, so good point there, but it could be fun. And you could do it all from a 1st person or 3rd person perspective, even for the Board members...I just see a Base Commander wandering through his base interacting with all sorts of people or picking up a plasma rifle and defending his base to the death, or holding a construction planning meeting, or setting research goals. But all from the first or third person viewpoint.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool! An invasion, if you will.

Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced!

I'm very interested to see how the Firaxis game and Xenonauts compare to each other. I doubt they will have much in common, but I think they will both be very fun games, too. I'm looking forward to both of them.

    Introduction thread!

Geoff here, in Texas. Dad of 2, husband to a non-gamer, engineer. Strategy games have always been my favorite, with XCOM, Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Total Annihilation, and Supreme Commander dominating my gaming time. Looking forward to Xenonauts

    Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control 2) - Project 6104

Project 6104 looks awesome, BTW. Thanks for sharing this
  9. What would an XCOM Massively Multiplayer Online Strategy Game be like? I think you could have a lot of fun with this. Basically, it would be all first-person or third-person, with different levels of management. You could have an XCOM global board of directors (would probably spend a lot of time at a desk, but could travel), base commanders, squad leaders, and individual soliders. Soldiers could spend downtime in the gym, in the manufacturing bay, or in the research facility to round out their attributes. You could have puzzle elements with players being scientists or manufacturing guys and making progress by completing puzzles, but they could also visit the gym. They could also pick up weapons and defend their base if needed. You could be an interceptor or transport pilot. You could be a civilian contractor, or a civilian running from aliens. You could even have human players acting as the aliens. What do you think?

    Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control 2) - Project 6104

I always traded the shell fragments instead of crew, but then again, I had a pre-release copy of the game with a special strategy guide direct from the publisher. I also had a huge black and white map. I think I still have all that in a box somewhere...man, I love SC2.
  11. How about night vision goggles and infrared laser sights for pistols and rifles? Spotting scopes/binocs? Any other ideas?

    Blaster Launcher

What about making the blaster launcher a 2-man weapon? You could remove waypoints and make it a very tactical ballistic missile/mortar that relies on laser illumination? You could have one soldier carrying the weapon, and the other carrying the illuminator.

    Containing Civilians

What about a very low AP-cost action to bark orders at civilians? Like "Get behind me!" or "Get to the choppa!"? No coercion/cuffing needed, just some verbal instructions to get them herding in the right direction? Mindless civvies always bother me in XCom and TFTD...
