Breaking enemies out of cover.
Sathra replied to anotherdevil's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Hmm, not quite sure. I think you can stun baton over cover walls, but not cover objects (which would make sense. Cover walls are between tiles, cover objects take up a tile). I'll see if it can be done with the current build. Edit: Yep, it works as I said, but its really expensive (30+ AP compared to about 18 in the open). I'm not sure how the costs of using an Shock Baton work though. It seems that stunning over or around cover adds alot, or something else (maybe it adds the cost as if the trooper walked around the object?) If the target is outside of range, they'll run to it, which is what they do if the target is on the other side of a cover object.- 50 replies

To be precise, no emplacements anywhere. Makes it too easy, too messy to code. Prone is out due to the sheer degree of work added, and because its not considered exactly necessary. Much like manual kneeling. Vehicles are unlikely to act as 'cover' cover, more as LOF blockers (bullet stoppers). They're pretty big. Their corpses might though. Anti-material rifles haven't been brought up much, but again unlikely. You've got rocket launchers, and they've got additional uses above Anti-vehicle fire (anti-personnel, stunning, fire-bombing).

I'd rather not, its annoying. ET did that I think. Soo much annoyance. -
We haven't really been told. Just that there are higher-tech-level versions of the flamethrower.

Fair enough. Bombs and lasers it is. Big, big bombs. Incendiary is incredibly unreliable for killing anything, and anyways, newly hatched Chryssalids are weaker than SH ones.

It was more that they were shrugging off multiple laser and plasma rifle shots. Especially the Chrissies. They were surviving Heavy Plasma shots.

Hmm, laser rifle then. I'm not all that sure that AC's would be all that effective against SH Snakes and Chrissies.

Huh. There isn't much strategy to the air combat as yet. Mostly I just charge, fire the missiles a few seconds apart (since there is a cooldown on roll), and keep a hand on the pause button to get dodges in.

Yeah, that was my view on this topic. Higher tech armours boost vision range at night. Basically from what Chris said. Add flares, some atmospheric lighting from map objects and flashlights/headlights (maybe) and we're good. Don't really see the point of adding NV goggles, since you'd equip them all the time anyways. If you really want to even up the battlefield you could mod the values yourself.

Implementing manual kneeling (part 2)

If its the greebly silver box things north of the landing site, then those are cover objects. Soldier up the top is leaning, soldier at the bottom is auto-crouching. -
Breaking enemies out of cover.
Sathra replied to anotherdevil's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
More likely they'll just freeze up, and you can execute them at your leisure. Chris' comment makes me think that its possible that when they do start berserking and running, you can start hunting them down like animals. Whooping if you want.- 50 replies

There's an exclusion zone around the ship that the aliens won't spawn in. Having spotlights lighting up the area around the ship won't actually be that helpful as a result. Would look nice and cinematic though. Missions will be more frequent than in X-com. Alien ships (either singly or in 'wings') come in waves with breaks in between. But we'd have to actually be able to try night missions with flares before saying that you need to add something else.

Breaking enemies out of cover.
Sathra replied to anotherdevil's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
I'll do it eventually. The other options for dealing with enemies in cover that you missed were: High accuracy weapons (they negate part of the cover save) Flamethrowers and equivalents (ignore cover) Shouldn't need much more, since in all likelihood you could also charge at the cover with a shield and stun baton and smack them around the face over the cover (if its a cover wall), or just shoot then while using the same piece of cover from the other side of it.- 50 replies

Bit of both really. Having replays would be a nice addition though, I agree.

Heh, This got brought up in the old forums. Got answered there too.

Why just the first line? Why not the last line of defense? Xenonauts: Last Line of Defense. heh, Xenonauts: The Buck Stops Here.

Implementing manual kneeling (part 2)
Sathra replied to Chris's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Just click on the weapon in the window to go into aim mode manually. Huh, they should have been standing up and firing at least some of the time from there. Leaning too. I'll try to take a pic of some doing so. -
Shouldn't be needed if Xenonauts keeps X-com's morale stuff (I think it does). If you kill enemies, you gain morale for everyone. If troops on your own side die, you lose morale. Death morale loss is global, "nearby trooper" boost is local (rookies give a penalty, but every other rank gives a bonus. The higher ranks give more). Might need to balance it a bit better for the aliens though. One of the oddities of the larger ships was that if you manage to kill about half or more without losing any yourself, they'd panic en masse. Gets amusing when you consider the minimum alien bravery was 80.

Rubric Marines? Yeah, Thousand Sons are pretty cool too. But they aren't faceless enough to get the 'cute' factor. Exploding plushies? So cliche. Plushies need no improvement, especially if they're the ones that always look like they're staring at you in disapproval.

Implementing manual kneeling (part 2)
Sathra replied to Chris's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
That's....really odd. Were they facing the cover object directly and firing in that direction? Just checked and its working fine in my build. Ran the pistol guy to the nearby sign, r-click behind the sign, then fired a few tiles along.
