  1. Stopped playing after a successful insane ironman run. Might revisit it. What sort of strategies do you mean? Building bases in a certain way, or? Also, I think blocking the teleporter pad "helps" a lot by reducing the tedious nature of breaching by really 70%.
  2. In my experience, having nerded this game down, map environments usage is mostly "limited" to destroying walls (to get to places or hit flank aliens), using cover and using doors. In the many maps I've played, the usage of explosive map environments is very limited. It is unsure whether or not shooting one of the gas tanks will explode. It doesn't do enough damage to instakill aliens as you probably would have liked. It creates smoke which might make hitting enemies harder, etc. Just inconvenient to try and target them, if aliens aren't already using it as cover (might as well shoot it). Positioning is key in ground combat still. You'll probably realize soon that concealment is the primary Xenonauts form of cover if you want successful runs.
  3. 4) Aliens can throw grenades from the other side of a locked door during a base assault. Rather rude, don't you think? is this a confirmed bug? Happened to me as well once, didn't lose anything too big at that time, but it was really annoying.
  4. >> What nuclear said << And also, sometimes you simply turn out unlucky a few games. I remember playing this game for about the first time, and I just couldn't understand why enemies kept "ignoring cover" and one-shotting my guys. I almost rage-quit and threw the game away. But I kept playing a bit and noticed that it was just a bad string of luck (mostly) and that enemies do eventually crumble if you play consistently and well enough. There are so many different maneouvres you can do to maximize your chances of having a smooth run (no deaths, few explosiions etc.), and if you keep doing them you're gonna do great in this game, even on Insane. There is also some things more I noticed that sucked. Sometimes tooltips lie (sebillians are excellent shooters in long range ). Covers are quite frankly sub-par. Do not rely on covers, as they're easily circumvented by aliens if they go to the side just a little (the algorithms used to find a good bullet path to Xenonauts soldiers (and aliens) are really good at finding ways around cover), try to as much as possible stay out of sight. You cannot challenge aliens in head-to-head warfare, you have to abuse line of sight and such, or go around with assaults. Get shielders. Lastly, I gotta say that this is one of the most skillcapped games I've played in a long while (abusing game mechanics to make RNG be in your favor as much as possible). And I've played many games really competitively. The order of things, the choosing of inventory, I've played this for so much and I'm still learning new things a lot of the time.
  5. Running into the spacecraft, someone's got a death wish. Never happened to me in many, many games. Maybe once or twice after having played a long game of breaching and he casually strides in to where my Tank is afking.
  6. Yeah doesn't make too much sense. Should be some system that makes the 50% debuff (perhaps tapering lowering) only be applied if the enemy is right behind the second sandbag (this would apply in general too).
  7. I'm just asking out of pure curiosity about people's thoughts. Or what they do themselves. This is more like our way of hugging them.
  8. Never actually encountered your situation this much. Either you got people who can fly up and give vision, or you just snipe the harridan down as they almost always are reasonably on the edge of the building. They do not go to edge, shoot, and back like humans probably would, and even then, the collision system gives you a lot of leverage to shoot them, right? I feel like this only applies to reapers honestly. They're like the only ones who you can't 100% know for sure they won't instakill you. There could easily be a reaper around the corner waiting to charge your best soldier and oneshot him, while with all the other aliens you can safe-play really easily by spamming smoke grenade (except sebs) or just having shielders (aka meatshields) on your squad's most dangerous fronts. I had a game on a desert (original) map at a crash site with a corvette where, I didn't see the enemy for two turns, only having heard gun shot from civilians. I go close to a building where no enemy will most likely charge me (they will kill the nearby civilians first anyway, right) and then of course a random reaper from a corner inside of a building charges at my highest ranked soldier and one-shots him. There is no other alien that does this sort of incalculable business.
  9. Haha, that's true. But don't you use some exploits in the game in general? "Abusing AI" (in whatever means possible), shooting at targets behind 100% cover (some ways to do it), [insert possible exploit], etc. I'm the kind of player that, if there is something I can do to get an advantage in a game legitimately, I will do it; whether this be going to a landed UFO to abort it just to remove it from geoscape or w/e. Just found it interesting because this is one of the few ways (I've discovered) to really exploit something in this game legitimately (obviously mods/changing game files is out of the question).
  10. So I realized, after aborting a fight against an alien base (lost two shielders due to herpa derpa Reapers) that you can actually just assault the base, move around for one turn and then abort - rince and repeat and you will eventually get as much TU as u want. This applies to strength, aim (if you shoot one before going back) and HP with all increase eventually. Thoughts on this? Not gonna do it myself, too boring, but it's possible.
  11. Do you know whether the soldier is guaranteed to die, whether under or on the building?
  12. I encountered a really weird scenario where my sniper was unable to shoot the alien, but he could shoot back. This wasn't around a corner: if you look at the ring created from where I'm hovering my mouse, that is the place the enemy alien is positioned. That very little caesan bastard attempted to shoot my sniper behind the blue cover (you can see the marks from the shot on the ground). How is this fair when I can't shoot back? Again, it is not around a corner. It should more logically be me who can shoot the alien.
  13. Is the "sebillians are bad at long range" a myth or something? Because to be honest, I've experienced as many casualties from long range sebillians as I have from any other alien, they dont seem to have any issues shooting with their "termal vision" (and since they're much tougher than all aliens to fight, they get more opportunities to shoot). Also, is the sight range of sebillians any different than other aliens/Xenonauts guys?
  14. Same here, never encountered your situation. And I've finished a veteran ironman run! Do you have extra maps on, because the vanilla maps will not often give you this situation I imagine. Also, if some Harridan kept going back and forth at a roof I would try to get vision however possible and then snipe him down. If u cant get vision, I really have no idea what you could do (except have really unsafe reaction fire I suppose).
  15. No, it didn't land close. It hit the sebillian. I thought I had saved the save for it (it was ironman) but apparently I can't find it... it was so random, I reckon it's something really rare.
  16. Is it possible to let you play my iron man save to check it out? It just randomly broke when I threw a flashbang grenade on a sebillian (this is on Scout ship, 10 sebillians, I have hyperion tank (doing it just for ranks)) Lost 180k right there for no reason, not that it's a bother. The sebillian went out of a door and crouched. Maybe it was killing my tank from 100hp 100% armor to 0% and then it didn't register...?
  17. Buzzard has some really odd collision problems. It's literally a deathtrap to use this items flying component when hovering over certain objects. Twice now, after trying this item out in a newer ironman run, it's done some really annoying stuff for me. Once I literally lost a 100 TU unit from it, and I'll show you what I mean. Buzzard Armor clipping me through the Cruiser walls (into death, since I lost him there): Buzzard Armor clipping me through a large boulder in middle east (it happened right now, likely disabled for the rest of the game): In both examples, I descended into the spot where I got stuck. I was kind of clicking too much and too frequently while hovering over those spots, so it might've enabled the bugs. I just wanted to report this so we maybe have some warning, because I was on the very, very edge of quitting my Ironman after my guy got stuck into the ship (lost lots of other soldiers as well that mission). PS: It's very off-topic, but I noticed this as well (url here: http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/710778914266031864/8978FD4116507F8A81883A0FD6803C7899FF0C7B/) in which you can see the landing ship through the walls (couldn't shoot, tried it, they didn't shoot either). Was a large area you could see through the walls. Is it a bug? PPS: You can still shoot through walls with for example heavy weapons when your heavy misses, did it today vs sebillians behind trees (100% block ones in middle east).
  18. Takes years... that feeling of losing them is so overwhelming, it's almost impossible to want to continue sometimes. I remember engaging a terror mission with 5 100 TU soldiers and a bunch of shielders. I was so heavily outgeared (they had cannons/reaper alpha while I had ballistic weapons and jackal armor) that my entire team crumbled apart and I lost the fight really hard, including three of the important guys. Went a new round right after it, couldn't keep going after losing so much. Even more off-topic, but... INSANE IRONMAN? I'm here struggling for the third round with veteran ironman, and you got full predator armor on INSANE. Not able to see the damage they take must be really annoying. You should stream, I'd watch everytime.
  19. Ah... did you lose two heavily trained soldiers, ey?
  20. Indeed, played 100 hours over like 3 3-4 weeks, it's insanely addictive, even if the maps come back to you. This and this too
  21. Ah okay... It's really unfortunate though, because it completely changes my way of playing out such maps because of it... both for good and bad, but mostly bad since I can use cover better. To be honest, I think the benefits of having 50% cover on these windows outweighs the cons of having soldiers need to melee windows/glass stopping bullets... it's gameplay vs aesthetics I guess.
  22. Can't change the name of the thread... supposed to have [v.1.54 - Ground Combat] there too. Also I don't think I'm off with this one! Streams on xenonauts have the same issue, and I think it could perhaps easily be fixed? The first map is often industrial for new players...
  23. Played for a very long time, haven't experienced any issues with shields...
  24. I think that would be good fix. The same thing happened to me on an industrial carrier map, where an harridan was standing on the outside of the carrier walls, 3 floors up just shooting from the air. Didn't screen capture since I didn't think of it as a bug, but it was certainly pretty awkward (and he managed to kill my 100 TU sniper )
