  1. that makes sense I was lobbing in a lot of AOE damage to soften the room. I could see this happening. Still broken in 1.07 btw.
  2. Still having a problem blasting open the door at the end game. Do I need to restart the mission?
  3. Yes I saw that as well. That's a minor bug compared to NOT being able to complete the game however!
  4. With the 1.6 update on my second play through I noticed a new ugly bug. The Preator room door (and the way to the exit is closed). I throw grenades and rockets at it, all soldiers shoot at it, and the door wont break. Of course, just tried to open it, and that didn't work either. This seems like a serious bug, or is there something I'm missing. My first game I was just able to walk into the room and kill the Preator, and walk our in the room behind him. With the reapers nipping at my tail. Also note I already destroyed the 2 generators. maybe.sav maybe.sav
  5. No just moved the file to the root and not to the audio folder
  6. Figured it out. Have to rename the new sound xml file to replace the existing one.
  7. I've got the rest of the mods working, but in my existing game this one doesn't seem to be working. I'm putting the xml in the root and the sound files in the fx directory. What am I missing to get this one to work? Any help?
  8. Now that this is released I want to add these. But the mod site is down! Anyone know where you can get this now?
  9. I've been sitting on this objective for a few months. I've been fighting the grounded and downed UFOs especially the larger ones. I've been knocking out everyone in these missions with the stun sticks or gas. Still not closing this quest! Any suggestions that might help?
  10. I couldn't agree more, I had taken a few years off reading. However, the Epic series reawakened my love of reading! I read them all in a week, now i'm yearning for some more or even the audio book. Making do with the Monster Hunter international and John Ringo Looking Glass Series (the later a bit like X-Com and then morphs into star trek as the series progresses). I've read about a dozen books this last year....but still really wanting book 5 of Epic. Suspect that with the new kid being born, and the health challenges...epic book 5 might take a bit of time though. MHI is rocking in the meantime Lee, hope you are doing well. My prayers are with you.
  11. I'd buy it! Wait, i already did... Looking forward to the read! Hey whats the status on the audio book for the epic series?! Must get!!!
  12. erutan, its based on who submitted their's first, but I was wondering the same thing, who has been done. Is there a easy way to tell?
  13. I agree I think the random map generator is something important for a game like this, and glad Chris is doing it (and hired a level designer), but the idle animations for soldiers??? Please, only if they finish the game, fix all the bugs, make the look and feel very polished THEN if you are still wondering what to do...then do this. First however, FINISH the game
  14. Hey Lee, Finsihed book 4, what a ride! I read the book in 2 days! I loved the book soooo much like XCOM, and I love the XCOM like theme as well as getting invested in the characters various struggles. The intrigue within the story was in full gear, and while not super deep, it kept me glued and thinking/speculating the whole read! This series scratches the itch of wanting a great XCOM fable! You've really go to finsih this... Question was the ant farm reference intentional nod to the new reboot, or just serendipity?
  15. Yes run in windows mode myself with 1024 by 768 just fine on...well XP. Keep in mind its still in alpha, its not even feature complete. Id wait till Beta to get ancy, thats when they start working system compatiablity issues.
  16. Hey Lee, a comment and a question First i read the rest of book 3 and finally had multiple woman in the front in combat, that was nice to finally see. It also ended on a trilogy like ending vibe to it. Where book 1 and 2 ended very open ended, 3 had a nice conclusion. So my question is book 4 more stand alone than 1 and especially 2 , or should I wait until the release of more books if I want to read the books to get a complete story feel? Also part B to the question, when is book 5 coming? Also got my co-worker hooked on your series. I loaned him book 1 and he wants to read the rest of the series.
  17. Yes you're comparing apples to oranges JA series was made by a large studio with a large budget = apple Small team of indie developers with, with shoe string budget = orange If it makes you feel any better as far as homages to XCOM...this game is waaay better graphically than other recent market offerings... Such as: http://ufo.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/ close, but horrible stilted animations, , missing key features, weak sauce all around see below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul-2PYpjDYQ UFO Series http://www.ufo-aftermath.com/pages/headquarters.html Also poor graphics overall, not even close gameplay wise, completely misses the feel of the original, and missing tons of the features in this game Now comes Xenonauts with a reto feel for sure, but all the depth and feel of the original, plus many new small touches and improvements. It nails the essense of what make the original so great, and looks much better than decent with what resorces they had to work with! However if you are looking for are STILL looking for a flashy bright glossy apple, you might want to stop looking in the tasty orange bin...
  18. Your books seem to favor (i.e. have a lot of) Russians. I wonder if there is a story behind that. I’m in the third book, half way in...Scott finding his soul again. I have to admit i really like the way you handle things in your books. You know some things are going to happen (like Scott's promotion to LT) but then you set up a false troupe, then have it happen again in a way that everyone readers and characters are going WHAT??!! My only two criticisms so far are 1) it took you about 50 pages in book one to find your voice (or for me to see it), hope fans of the genre stick in that far...because its well worth the ride. 2)Ug, you don’t allow the female characters to kick butt as much as the male characters. Ester has a weapon (the first female character I’ve seen armed), yet she never fires it (so far). All the females are medics, or non combat scouts so far. I suppose that reflects current day norms, but still Thats a nitpick, really. Otherwise I really like how you seem to set up these moments of formula story archs, but you hardly ever use them, and if you do, you do it in a such a way it feels very unexpected. Love the books, really do!
  19. Chris, you should totally post this on the kickstart page (well most of it anyway). Strip out the custom names info being there after kickstart. These updates get people coming back, and hlep people on the fence see, that its worth taking the plunge!!
  20. Lee, I wasnt aware of your books prior to the kickstart...but i picked it up once i realized what the series was. Im SOOO glad...once i got into the ground mission I was hooked hard. Read the entire 1st book in a day. Starting the 2nd book now. Very glad you guys made this deal, I would have never found the book otherwise!
  21. i usually 'plan' for worst case, willing to accept for worse case. However, i train myself to expect better, you expect better (as a role as a leader in business) you often get it. In this case, i think of kickstarter and indie development support as akin to voting. The most meaningful thing I can do is support an idea or ideal (or genre) with money. The more you're support it, the more you're moving a niche property to become mainstream. So, the way i see it I'm already winning by having the very slick demo of the X-com experience and voting to have the market see this game isn’t just a outlier, it’s something people are willing to put their hard money down for and should be acknowledged as a market force in its own right. A higher goal is particpating in the ground swell support for projects like of Wasteland, Shadowrun and that other turn based HOMM like game (whose name i forget), and I've even gone so far as suggesting/bugging Sam over at Dark-wind to set up a kick starter. I love these types of game and creating visibility for them and supporting them are my way of putting out there my vote for what I want to see, ahd hopefully influence the landscape of the market, and maybe just maybe see there is a real mainstream market/appeal for for more complex TBS games in general.
