I suppose one way of doing it would be to raise the price on steam to $25, then offer a 20% pre-order discount.
That might psychologically work to attract some buyers on the fence.
Same offer, different presentation.Though would you want to do that? I mean there are already lots of people whining on every EA game on Steam. Wouldn't incentivising those kinds of people (read luring their tiny little brains) to preorder just end up with stupid rants on the steam forum?
PS: doesn't Steam want some kind of countdown until the discount is over?

I'm glad it's finally working (after a fashion) for you cingal. Such a weird case.

Yeah the attach file system on this forum is aa bit borked. upload it to your favourite file hosting site like mediafire or dropbox and post the link.

At walls the soldier has to stand up otherwise targetting is not possible and I heal the wall *sigh*.
Heh this gave me a chuckle as it reminded me of raiding in WoW. Onyxias lair at lvl 60 and similar encounters where the raid leader keept yelling "hug the walls". Some people took it a bit literally and started emoting "/hug wall"

I think I'm a bit tired and far too easily amused atm

It could be that gaps in my own English proficency is compounding with yours. (But I think the phrase you're after is "pulling my leg". I have not heard of pulling someones nose in that context.@GorlomIs my english really that bad or you are just ,,pulling my nose" .....?
)And it seems that i ate few words, true.I wanted to say i really don't like when people act like you but i was sleepy and typing that post on phone.Let's just drop it,there is no reason for us to drag this on since we apparently don't understand each other well and there shouldn't be bad blood between us anyway.I'm fine with that. I never meant to antagonize you in any way, and I do not want a misunderstanding between us to cause an unpleasant atmosphere.

I really don't when people act like you .... first of all few months ago there was topic on forum where you could apply for job (new project....duh ).Also thers was one very constructive post where Chris explained (topic was very much the same ),why they won't making sequel or expansion immediately..... He mentioned that there will be sequel(Xenonauts 2) but not for at least 2 or so years.... (I should had made note of what he wrote so i could copy/past every time and save my time from writting this...
And to answer your first question ,no its pretty bad and lame industrial modern standard,if you don't have something that will hold water then there is no need to rise false hopes and expectations ... (i am really sick of it nowadays )
I have severe problems understanding you (and I assume that you misunderstand me as well). You "really don't" what? There seems to be a word missing there?
Anyway I wasn't assuming that the next game Goldhawk does would specifically be Xenonauts 2. just that there would be a next game.
And to answer your first question ,no its pretty bad and lame industrial modern standard,if you don't have something that will hold water then there is no need to rise false hopes and expectations ... (i am really sick of it nowadays )I have no idea what you said here... I don't think we are discussing the same thing.
Afaik game studios start new projects before they completed old ones because they got guys sitting around doing nothing after their particular field of expertise has finished working on the first game. If those guys are finished and don't have anything more to do on the first game they ccan't really work for the company unless a new project is startyed, right? To keep them on the payroll without paying them for no work they set them to work on new projects, kind of laying the ground work.
I don't see how being efficient and keeping the people you have worked with employed is a lame industry standard.
-
They haven't finished this one and you are talking about next one ...
Isn't that pretty much industry standard?
anyway they already assembled people who are working on some project which is not reveled yet and no its not expansion or Xenonauts nor it will be for another 2 years or so (Chris words not mine).Did... did you just do a 180 degrees turnaround?

@Gorlom
Really, you are complaining about spoilers? You get that info out of the seb, and caesan autopsy notes. Not really endgame stuff by any means...
First I've heard of "preator" thought that was more endgame. I haven't acctually played for a long time

-
In all seriousness, humans would actually be very useful to the aliens.
Local availability in HUGE numbers. Physically tougher then the caesans, smarter then the sebs. Very expendable. Give plasma weaponry (or not) and point them in the direction of your enemies.
I would be more surprised if the aliens DIDN'T utilize human cannon fodder when a nation surrendered to them. Isn't the praetor's ultimate goal to "uplift" us as a race and enslave us? Just like they did to the other races?
BAH! spoilerwarning!

If your theory was correct, they'd charge full price for a game before release so they can get as much money as they can before people "realize how bad it is."
Wait... why do you think marketing use sales and discounts? o.0
If your theory was correct then there would technically never be useful to discount anything.

Noticed this on my first day in game:
02.49 (x:3150 y:408) Local farmers report discovering circles of unknown origin in fields.
09.53 (x:3423 y:426) Local farmers report discovering circles of unknown origin in fields.
Umm... This shows as in Greenland... (You know - Crop circles in Greenland...)

Never heard of Greenlandish icefarmers and their snowfields? man Greenland needs to get a better PR agent!

-
What would humans bring to the table? What quirk or ability would they have that the aliens don't?
combat shields... obviously!
-
This sounds very interesting to me.

I think that "little guy" is lame, but I can't think of something better.
Uninitiated, outsider, pencil pusher, lowly number cruncher, errand boy, "dullard", insignificant insect, annoyance, annoying chatterbox, spanish inquisition, all too curious George. mouthbreather.

Soldiers do increase their stats after missions.
Selecting their stats would be akin to cheating, and is not really necessary.
-
I deleted that one a while ago because I came across a game breaking issue with that save that for some reason made me unable to win alien base missions other than blowing them to tiny little pieces that was only happening on said save
Wouldn't that have been really useful to keep that save so the devs could look into THAT problem?
-
Does selecting a new role automatically try to equip that roles default loadout? I thought you needed to press a button for that. You can still change the loadout for each soldier individually after selecting a role, right?
-
From a psychological perspective I'd rather have the trigger and reward come from Ground Combat as that is imo THE core element of the game.

I can imagine "teleporting" hidden units would cause problems when the hidden unit moves out into Xenonauts view and stop being hidden

I wonder if the engine can even handle things like that.
-
.... looks like a spam bot is advertising a gold selling site. Gaudlike can you do something about this butthat?
PS: Have I not suggested the game "Silver"? Never played it so I dunno but its supposed to be like FF7 or something according to a friend of mine.
-
Yeah, there's no way to get it back. You just have to protect it better before it leaves

wasn't there a plan to gave some kind of mission to attempt to return the lost lambs to the fold?
-
5. The name "Sebillian" seems to be a reference to the language the reptilian race in Everquest speaks.
Maybe the other names are also subtle references that once you discover them adds to your enjoyment?

I'm worried that a tutorial might limit the players playstyle too much because instead of setting out to explore what they can do, they are given a reduced toolbox and told how to use those tools and might never realize they can do more then whats explaind in the tutorial.
I'm not sure I think this kind of game lends itself to a tutorial.

Hagen: Matthew (goldhawks bug tester) would greatly appriciate if you told him which version of the game you are playing (preferebly in the topic)
It would also make it easier for him if you posted 1 thread for each bug (or 1 bug per thread) with a short description of the bug in the topic alongside the version number.
