And how accurate are you at throwing something with something with the same weight as a rifle in the other hand? Instead of haveing to code the accuracypenalty on the 2handed weapon and the granade throwing, wouldnt it be simpler to just not let you carry the grande around and have quickslot with the AP penalty instead.

They are semi random i believe. As far as I understand it the maps allocate set areas for a designated typ of map object like open road, factory, barn, transformers, farm field, etc So while the baisic concept of the maps are fewer then you might think there will still be a larger variety because the buildings and stuff will keep changeing how they look inside their designated areas. (although i could be completly wrong about this)

Is that from wikipedia or where? It still misstranslates midgård by using the middle english transformation. Middle earth got translated back into Midgård because it was used as the same thing, but technically it doesnt mean that. (and never did according to etymology of the word on wikipedia.) And the Poetic Edda was an english work wasnt it? I'm not really sure what part of that is supposed to indicate he got it from the source rather then english works inspired by norsemythology. There is a char in lord of the rings named Gamling which always makes me giggle because it translated to "old one" or "geezer" depending on the context.

most arent implimented but laser and plasma weapons should become available as you progress through the tech tree. it seems the bugg causing the techtree to not update properly is still ingame. Im not entirely sure of the extent of the current tech tree.

It was possible (as long as you werent playing ironman mode) in previous builds. Some people has reported it as a bug that the escape key does not work in ground combat atm. (is this really offtopic?)

Currently that is in effect. black is unexplored areas (light) grey is areas you ahve explored but arent currently in any soldiers line of sight/ field of vision. PS.Isn't this visible on a lot of screenshots available? DS. Edit: Looking on the 3 groundcombat screenshots on the xenonaut pages 1 completly lacks grey FoW, one barely has any. Only the factory exploration screenshot showcases the grey FoW.

bullets can destroy but not penetrate buildings. dont think covering fire has any affect either. you can already burstfire on a single alien.. not sure what penalties you could apply to sweeping to prevent it from being too powerfull? You would effectivly have it miss 95% of the bullets and cause it to eat your entire clip/mag whatever. Not really but it cant be anywhere as effective as burst fire at least.

Thank you I think we are in agreement then. He might have intended or thought he was baseing it on norse mythology (and it is to a large part) but itsheavily influenced by english poets and their ideas. I was just confused about the whole bit where he took elves from norsemythogoly since it didnt correspond with my understanding of the mythology but now that we agree on other influences as well I see it from your side =)

Hector considering the way the graphics work with the sprites it will be very timeconsuming to make reskins / change colours. (there's like or 10 000 sprites for all the armor and weapon combinations or something.) You can modd that yourself if you really REALLY want it. But the developers has more important things to spend their time on.

Asgård = home of the gods (asar) Midgård = Human realm. I guess Mid = middle but I'm not sure gård = earth. it means more yard or closed in area. at least in modern swedish and i assume danish norwegian and islandish as well. English Wikipedia ssuggests that middle english poets took themselves the liberty to translate and transform it into middleearth. Seems to me that Tolkiens understanding of Norsemythology comes from middle century english poets rather then norse mythology.

While interesting from a storytelling concept (although not really compatable with the current storyline i think) how would this be implemented as a gamemechanic without breaking the game? would these rival factions steal your crashsites? would they wage war on you or simply race you? Why would the worlds governments fund more then 1 organization to deal with the alien threat? And how many would they be willing to fund?

RTS battles? what RTS battles? The ground combat is Turn based, not real time? Are you talking about Air combat despite the title of your post saying ground combat? (no, you must mean ground combat since you're talking about a loadingscreen)

Takes longer to verify the standalone. Chris told us when the standalone first became available that updates for it would take (significantly) longer.

Elves from Norse mythology? are you sure? svart alver are like hobgoblins afaik (although swedish wiki claims its "dvärgar" or dwarves) and "älvor" are litterally fairies. Alver seems to be more of lesser nature spirits then the nobility described in Tolkiens from what i can decern. trivia: apparently shakespear used the word "elf" as meaning the same thing as "fairy" in midsummernight's dream.

It's a (fairly) commonly known phrase (just like carpe diem and such), you dont need to speak French to know that phrase.

The alien AI is not complete. Right now it's basicly a palceholder. When it is completed Aliens will not have eyes in the back of their necks and will not reactionfire on targets behind them.
