Hello all,

This is a follow in from this thread:

http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php?37-Submit-mascot-representative-for-marketing-purposes/page5

Basically looking to see if anyone can come up with some nice, period specific, posters or art that might help tell the story of an impending alien invasion. See the original thread for some ideas!

Happy posting!

Good one to photoshop a UFO into ;)

Some older ones as well to give ideas. WW1 I think.

Bit of rewording needed but close enough.

There is a selection here that look pretty good, not cold war but good inspiration.

Here are a bunch.

I like "For all time", "make love not war", "resist", and "Solidaridad".

"do not let them escape" is perfect, crashed craft and everything. With just a change in weapons and the soldier outline to be a bit more alien this basically describes a normal x-com crash recovery mission. It's a shame this isn't for a TFTD remake, I think that pilot has flippers on.

"Build a Regular Modern Army to Protect the Socialist State" is very similar to some of the designs bouncing around in the logo/mascot thread.

I really like Solidaridad's image of the people weaving their efforts together (the basket) to stop the bomb, but having a hard time translating that into something that would apply to an alien invasion.

I really do not think that comedy and WWII era propaganda is appropriate for this game's marketing. The game itself has no humor, and it doesnt need to -- it has gravity and fear, and therefore it also has the need for hope and bravery... if not faith...

xenonautsposter2.jpg

= Reassurance for the people who are terrified

= Openly known, but remains a mystery, thus helping people have almost a religious faith in Xenonauts, rather than an old fashioned "Go get em boys!" patriotism, which wouldn't suffice in a global unknown threat

= If people knew how the Xenonauts operated, saw their jets, and the equipment they were using, it would actually be counter-productive, because it really isn't on par with what the aliens have. Therefore it's better to be this mysterious "force", perhaps showing electricity, chemistry, or other "science" icons to help people's imaginations run wild. They do, after all, create amazing things from the alien tech, but they can't show that in the posters

(I just stole a generic globe picture from the net, inverted it, and added a generic wreath. I think the ambiguity works.)

Vector drawing (from an existing photo of anything) is a small hobby of mine. I'm terrible at drawing things out of my head, if I had a base (without using any copyrighted material of course), I could try making a cold war-style propaganda style (without patriotism) poster ;)

Since the setting is the Cold War era, it would make sense that there would be posters telling people that they should be uniting against a common enemy and leaving their Cold War squabbles behind.

Something like a handshake between a US and USSR soldier? (I'd suggest other nations, but US/USSR is how most people recall the cold war) You could always have a line of soldiers of different nations between the earth and a UFO.

Might have a go making one, but I'm not sure how good it would look.

I think the Xenonauts are probably more interested in shooting up aliens than producing glossy posters, but it's a nice idea. Although the font is quite retro, reminds me of the 1940s (which is sounds like you were trying to avoid).

Yes, they would certainly be focused on the war itself, but the level of hysteria among the public would demand reassurance from some government body speaking on their behalf.

This poster -- "We're Here, Believe in Us" -- would be designed to show that an area is under the protection of the Xenonauts. I think it's cool, the font can always be changed easily.

Looks good, Wolfpox.

And Chris, certainly the Xenonauts would be more interested in battling than propaganda, but consider in game for every Xenonaut soldier you also have your scientists and engineers and pilots etc, then those that we never see mentioned in games like these, who cooks the meals, who pays the bills, who cleans the base, who does X, Y and Z? There is likely to be a PR team of some sort, that the player never needs to deal with, but would get some stuff out to the populace

I like it! Could You try something for me though (or post the separate images so someone else can try it). I'm liking the wall idea, but not so much the poster. Perhaps just have the alien face and the line through it sprayed/painted onto the wall?

Or another one would be an alien face (no strike through) with the words, "Alien sighted here" or something similar.

Basically these would get across the idea that everyday people are seeing the aliens, and they are the ones putting these up. Ties in with the Xenonauts as a secret organisation, and not really worrying about thier public image on a one to one basis, just concentrating on fighting the aliens

Could also have a few signs sprayed on doors saying things like "No greys allowed" or "Humans only," but that's a bit more comical ("F*&^ing Prawns!")

Another idea would be posters for some kind of war bonds perhaps... Invest in your secret organisation here! =p

I just took that wall + poster from some free website, didn't want to spend too much time on the poster itself :)

I'll try some of these sprays, that's a cool idea !

Could use a higher res picture of that alien though :P

looking forward to it! (Yeah if you could post that alien head picture, or where you got it from, that'd be good!)

I just used the logo Chris posted in the other topic, so yeah that's like 100 pixels enlarged to 500 or more, not ideal hehe.

I'll do some tomorrow, 1h30am here now ;)
