imperialus Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Quite a few of the complaints/questions on the steam forum right now seem to be centering around the battlescape bugs, AI, and balance or lack thereof. Those of us who've been with the project for a while know to expect this, but other than a brief statement on the store page saying that that the game is in bugfixing/balance mode right now there isn't much to inform new players as to the state of the battlescape. I've mentioned it whenever I've seen it come up, but my posts tend to get lost in the sea pretty quick. Just a suggestion, but what if Chris or GJ could post a sticky at the top of the forum explaining where the Battlescape AI is at right now and some of the more common bugs like grenades, shooting through walls, ect. You could point people towards GJ's blogposts while you're at it. For reference here is one of the posts I did on the subject Just to add a bit of perspective while I'm at it. Part of the reason the battlescape is the way it is, is because that is exactly what they are working on right now. Gijs-Jan is their AI coder over on their forums, you can check out his blog here: http://codepoke.net/2012/08/18/xenonauts-a-i-starting-blocks/. To put it in perspective, 3 or 4 months ago they didn't have battlefield AI. The aliens would stand in one spot and reaction shoot. This is the first build that the aliens actually have some aggression and are attempting to use tactics. Quote
Commissar Pancakes Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Or perhaps post a sticky of all the known bugs currently in the game and update it as you go? Quote
Jean-Luc Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Tbh, people who don't understand the concept of a beta or what early access means probably aren't going to understand any sort of explanation but I tend to have a bleak outlook on these things so who knows. Quote
Buzzles Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Tbh, people who don't understand the concept of a beta or what early access means probably aren't going to understand any sort of explanation but I tend to have a bleak outlook on these things so who knows. ^^ This is why I fully understood Introversion's "charge £10 more for alpha than the full game" choice on Prison Architect, they got hacked off with most "early adopters" of their previous games just complaining and tghe devs having to spend their time dealing with it, while only a small subset of people actually filed bug reports and tried to help out.
