Gam
Chris
I have almost no idea what is going on in this thread because I can't read Italian. However, judging from the bug lists published and the picture above it seems like you guys are struggling with text sizes. If so, I'll post the solution here. If this is a major issue for all translations, I'd appreciate it if you'd share the solution with the other teams too. 1) The string in question is "Combat Fuel" in English. 2) In strings.xml, a search for that shows that the game side of the string is "ENGAGE.COMBATFUEL" 3) Doing a Find in Files in /scripts/ (using Notepad++) shows me that it appears on line 275 in engage.lua 4) Going to that line shows a block of code, which contains the Font and FontScale for that text 5) FontScale is currently set to ScreenScaleY, so change that to ScreenScaleY*0.8 to display it at 80% of the current size. 6) Save the file and reload the window in-game (in this case you'll want to disengage and then re-engage the UFO) and check if you like the size, if not then just change it again until you do like it. You don't need to close the game, just re-open the window. 7) Change the other text on that line to the same size to maintain consistency
Giovanni
I have almost no idea what is going on in this thread because I can't read Italian. The scaling texts, tiled buttons and basically any other UI controller which we coded ourself (engine restrictions will apply) could automatically scale their font site from the given fontScale downwards until they don't fit in the given space. Example attached (a non-sense string TBH, just to try it out). Edit: 7) Change the other text on that line to the same size to maintain consistency Consistency can of course be a problem with the described method (as seen in the attached image), but it would at least work for people who want to do a translation without struggling with lua scripts. Of course manual adjustment would be the best option, but it's a long work which can be skipped in case someone doesn't have that much time. Yes, we were struggling, but we found a way to correct every string that doesn't fit (till now). We achieved that "tweaking" the translation, keeping it anyway understandable. I personally wouldn't like to see smaller text... the font is already very small, and I prefer to think a bit longer to find words that fit. However, thank you very much for all the info!! Gam
Yep I would agree, so far we have been able to fit a decent translation into any cell. My idea was to keep the number of translated files to a minimum: strings, xenopedia and loading tips. If we start messing with the lua files this could be a problem in case of future patches. Giovanni
Veramente bello, grazie!
Chris
Giovanni - yes, we could automate it. If it's easy to do then by all means implement it...but I'd make it an optional mode that can be activated / deactivated in gameconfig.xml in case it causes some unexpected behaviour.
