I think it would add more suspense if the first time you encountered a new UFO in an air battle you didn't know what you were up against, i.e. light scout? Strike Cruiser? Fighters heavy or otherwise.

History is full of armies giving their own names to recognise enemy technology based upon shape, capabilities, etc. Such as "Flanker" for the Su-27. We don't need to go up and check the nameplate to figure out it's a "light scout".

This is something we were planning to do, but we'll see if we have enough time to implement it - it's not really a high priority feature.

Ah that'd be nice. The designation could be "Unknown" and the size would still be picked up.

"Very Small Unknown" UFO Instead of like Very Small Fighter

"Medium Unknown" UFO

This would only be relevant if there were more than one type of of each size tho, unless you hide the size, which doesn't really make sense. Unless radar weren't able to estimate size in 1980?

Radar's been able to estimate size since forever, since the size of the object indicates the strength and number of the rebounding radio waves. At least, I'd assume so. I'm not an expert on radar.
