Xenonauts should take some cues from UFO: AI

The laser rifles are so great in this game! They aren't just plain stat upgrades, they are different in their own way, and IT'S JUST SO GOOD!

That isn't very informative, how/why are they good, for those of us that haven't played that or haven't for a long time.

Compared to plasma?

Laser rifles are far weaker, but also far more accurate. The most accurate weapons in the game.

Plasma is devastating, but has short effective range.

Regular guns are cheap and come with lots of ammo, so you can spray and pray.

Hypervelocity weapons go trough walls (and bodies) and trough armor. But are quite heavy, slow to reload and have low ammo capacity.

Etc...

Basically, the lasers are really accurate, but I've seen an ortnok take 6 then proceed to stab my guy.

I like that starting guns are still relatively effective...depending who you use them against.

Against more heavily armored aliens they start loosing effectiveness (by a lot. An armored Ortnok tanks bullets like crazy), but even at end game they can still kill unarmed or lightly armed aliens.

And shooting trough a wall to kill an alien? Epic.

Decided to play some UFO AI after this topic. Its....okay. By the time I actually built a laser rifle most of my team was equipped with plasma (and since I usually fight at close range due to the map, I never noticed the downside).

Could really use bigger maps, and more aliens though. Outnumbering the aliens badly in every combat is getting a bit old.
