Chris Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 This has been uploaded to Desura and released. I'm pretty sure a lot of the errors in V17.6 are caused by the archiving system we're using to reduce the file count in the auto-updater version. This explains why the standalone build is much more stable, and why Matthew didn't notice any of the obvious bugs when testing (as he tested the standalone version, which doesn't have the archiving). This is a small update (approx 1.5mb) but I think it should fix the issues in the auto-updater version when it is approved - a couple of test missions suggests that it does. If you already have the standalone, you won't need this hotfix. Quote
Gorlom Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Silly Matthew not testing the new archive features Quote
ciago92 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 if we have the standalones do we need this at all? as in, are there bugs in the standalone that are fixed by this as well? or is it just autoupdater compression archive fixes Quote
Gorlom Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 only the desura client version archive related bugs. Quote
Max_Caine Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 ciago92, if you have the standalone you won't even notice the hotfix, as it will only update on the Desura client version. Quote
Chris Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Yeah, if you already have the standalone then this hotfix is not needed. Quote
nawoa Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I read in the news post you might want help from the community building maps. Sounds like it might be fun. Is there a map editor people can download for this purpose? Quote

Is there a map editor people can download for this purpose? Yes, there is a map editor. I'm pretty sure it's part of the game download. Quote
Chris Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Yup, it's in the game directory and extra maps would be great Quote
radiorob Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Hurra, after Desura hotfix v17.6 no single crash in and after ground battles ( 3 mission completed )! THX Chris for quick solution to the problems with v17.6 on Desura. Quote
IceVamp Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Hmm.. not getting a dl option. Is this autoapplied? Quote
pvtbones Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Hmm.. not getting a dl option. Is this autoapplied? I was wondering the same Quote
Tnuckvirp Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I verified and it downloaded something... it didn't work for me. I'm re downloading it from scratch, may have a conflict seeing as I downloaded 17.52 as stand alone and linked it to Desura and then updated from there. Quote
Chris Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 The fix should be approved on both branches now. Quote
IceVamp Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Reloading the page, and checking the changelog still says: Feb 12 2013, 6:18am - VERSION: v17.6 No update prompt. Gonna try verification. Quote
Chris Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Actually, it's not been approved on the Premium branch yet. Bleh. EDIT - and now it has. Quote
janprusak Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'm sorry, but it didn't solve the problem for me. First mission - ?desert base? - after the misison the game crashes while loading geoscape. I'm using Desura autoupdate. Quote
Chris Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 You've updated and started a new game? Quote
janprusak Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Yes. But I have a really bad internet connection and really little free space on the hard drive (space beeing solved over this weekend), so the problem may be on my side... Quote
anzacloner Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'm sorry, but it didn't solve the problem for me.First mission - ?desert base? - after the misison the game crashes while loading geoscape. I'm using Desura autoupdate. Before autoupdate no crashing after mission. When geoscape came on was dark with only base and craft icons and nothing moving exept circles around craft which returned to base.I then clicked base button which created runtime error crash.I then restarted on latest autosave which brought up normal geoscape and waited for craft to return to base again. This happened after every mission.Since autoupdate the geoscape is no longer a problem. But I now have occasional crash after mission end. I realise Chris and team are flatout working on all aspects of development. When I started playing game v.17.52 reaction fire was happening. For me priorities are in order of importance=Reaction skills,Accuracy skills,Backing eachother up always.I do not like losing castles.I consider my soldiers to be castles. Cheers. Quote
TNoyce Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Chris, Nice to see the UFO placeholders gone (at least for the light scout, haven't gotten anything bigger yet). I am seeing reaction fire from the Aliens. At least I believe I am. Quote
flashman Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Chris do you have a new development road map for getting the game released? I know that some key changes have held things back such as the AI and UI. Quote
Fire Water Gasoline Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Played about an hour of the Desura version without any real problems. No crashes. Some textures sometimes disappear or become transparent but they come back when you change the tab (in the base) or go to base if one geoscape. More annoying is the invisible aliens behind rocks but they too can be persuaded into being targeted. Quote
TrashMan Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I do get occasional chrashes (when saving or exiting) and corrupted savegames that won't load anymore (crash anytime I try to load) Quote
