Assault shield

Just made one - research result only said "The MIG-32 is"

What does it do?

Protection for your squaddies. Basically, the combat shield and its successor soak up damage that would otherwise harm the squaddie. It's a one-handed item, so you can hold another one-handed item (such as a pistol).

That was what I was guessing - but it's nowhere to be found in the eqipment screen, so I cannot equip it to anyone...

It hasn't been added properly yet.

Assault shield is the follow up to the combat shield.

I've not checked in the last couple of builds, but wasn't it available if you starting equipping people with only pistols?

The combat shield was, don't know if it is still the case.

I also don't know how that would work with the assault shield.

I think Chris mentioned it a while back when we were talking about the combat shield, apologies if I was wrong.

No, it's my bad. I jumped in thinking they were one and the same. It's possibly been mentioned as a way of bieng able to breach the larger, more advance craft. I've a way of shutting out such details.

The idea was to have directional cover.

We know what it is intended to do, not had much time to try it out though.

It is a piece of equipment you carry that has a certain number of hitpoints that are taken off as it takes damage instead of the soldier bravely cowering behind it.

When it reaches zero you are on your own.

It takes up one hand though so you can only use the pistol (or stun rod) with it.

Should add to the options when breaching.

the thought of going into one of the old style UFOs without one is pretty worrying. The new style doors...

The sprites have been done so it should make it in.

I hope it does at least, looks like it could be fun.

It also means that the pistol is something that will get used more often as it can be used one handed with the shield. Just think... higher tier pistols that you *want* to manufacture so you can use them with an Assault Shield. Certainly an improvement for me.

Nah. Laser swords, now that's where it's at.

Nothing like arming a bunch of Xenonauts with only shields and a giant energy katana and having them bum-rush hapless Xenos.
