As an old Master of Orion 2 player, I have to say that looks frickin' awesome. Endless Space seems pretty good and all, but the modular ship design, proper diplomacy with personalized races (militant bear race called the Kulrathi? That must be an homage ) makes this one look a lot more interesting to me. A must-buy for me, which is pretty annoying as I already have so many games that need finishing.
Also: Ground combat, vulnerable freighters and trade ships actually seen in game doing their missions à la Distant Worlds, military ships of defeated and bankrupt civilizations turning into piracy...

SD is one of my top most anticipated games for 2012. Race design is awesome (bears and owls ftw), pausable real time ship battles (Baldurs Gate in space) and even playable ground invasions (the last game I remember having this was Imperium Galactica). Ooooh, and ship design.
I just wish they'd open up those pre-orders.

"This is a primitive culture. I am here to facilitate its incorporation"
I marked it off my list as soon as I saw the letters "R," "T," and "S," but damn if all this enthusiasm doesn't make me reconsider...
Space battles were the lamest part of MOO ... I always put it on auto-pilot.
Liked it better for exploration and colonization and research.
Alpha release 14, unless otherwise mentioned.
System specs, if it ends up mattering:Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz x 2
6 GB RAM
It looks like Master of orion mixed with Distant Worlds.
And this warm fuzzy feelings when I see these Bulrhati... I mean Killrathi bears.
Goddes let it be a good game.
Few more videos.
