This is a known issue. It only happens with WINE, we are trying to track down the underlying issue, as it doesn't happen during auto resolve, but when clicking the button to go back to base or select new target after an auto resolved fight.

Hello there.

I have a serious issue with the game's fonts: it appear like it is not antialiased at all and it is hardly readable for me.

Sans titre 8.jpg

Sans titre 9.jpg

fonts.jpg

I have tried severals fixes:

- Installing all fonts with winetricks

- Enabling/disabling fonts smoothing with winetricks (rgb, gray, disabled)

- Updating the wrapper and the engine

- Creating a wrapper from scratch (with wine 1.7.18 and WS9WineCX13.1.0 with D3Dboost)

- Updated the game to 1.04 from my Windows install

- Changing resolution and windowed/fullscreen

- Switching to mac-driver/quartz/external quartz

But nothing work at all. Here my LastRunX11.log:

Black boxes in missions

Whenever I reload a save from mid mission I get 'black boxes'.

These black boxes usually the size of 4x5 units block line of sight and simply cover over whatever they appear.

They do not hinder movement but cannot be removed.

makes reloading in a mission impossible.

PS: playing version 1.0 on imac.

As I posted in another thread, I think the fonts are very bad. I'm on a macbook 13", which has not had a problem with any game, even games that seem to have a lot happening on the screen. Xenonauts is proving very difficult to decipher.

It seems that there should be a way for the text to adjust in scale. If I'm on a smaller screen, then the text should take up a larger portion of the display. I don't think that should be a problem, as there seems to be a lot of unused space if I remember correctly. I think there are elements in there that aren't really necessary and wouldn't be missed if they were replaced with an area that allowed for larger and more readable text.

Hi,

I think it's great that you are doing a proper XCOM-follow up! Hope you make it detailed, large and varied :)

Anyway,

I have a Mac Intel Core 2 Duo, OS Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and bought the game, downloaded Xenonauts-17.1-mac.1 and installed.

Problem is I cannot test the game since the mouse cursor isnt visible while the mouse is over the window that the game is in. It's there, I can click etc, but have no real way of knowing where I should click since the cursor for me is not viewable.

This makes it pretty hard to test the game - so I hope someone can come up with a soluation to this shortly :)

Where did you download from? When clicking on the link provided in the email after I purchased the game, the version I got was Xenonauts - 1.0 - mac.dmg. When I launch the game, on the top right it says Xenonauts release 1.0 31/05/2014. How can I get an updated version? I don't see any options to download a patch or an update.

-I'm not sure how I wound up there, but I purchased my copy from HumbleBundle. I think it was a link from the Xenonauts website if I remember correctly.

Confirm on the black boxes.

In my case, they appear on random missions. Save / reload mid mission doesn't help, only reload of a pre mission save does. The boxes seem to mostly cover moving stuff like smoke, moving alien animations etc., which sometimes even triggers it. It isn't as if the game couldn't load the animation, because sometimetimes they randomly appear again only to vanish again. The main problem is though, even though the game remains playable otherwise, sometimes when the camera looks at an area which is obscured by these black boxes in a large part, the framerate drops to unplayable levels. I am talking about 60 fps to 0.2 fps drops. When I try to exit the mission (Return to main menu) or reload right then, the game crashes. The reloads are only possible after restarting the game.

Let me know if you want a crash report or a video of the problem or something. It makes the game pretty much unplayable as it occurs in about every second encounter.

I am on 2012 MBA (Intel HD4000) with Mavericks on it, playing the latest Humble store 1.0 31/5/2014 build.

For me it's not black boxes, but horrible fragmentation of the graphics on some maps, mainly the urban ones. Example. I think it has something to do with multi-story buildings. The fragments will change depending on what is illuminated/moused-over, and such. Sometimes the fragments are extreme-zoomed in portions of my xenonauts.

I'm using the latest version from the Humble store, 1.0 31/05/2014, on a 2010 MacBook Pro, OS 10.8.5

I will look into the black boxes problem. Is this at fullscreen or windowed mode? I currently test in windowed mode usually at 2048x1152 and haven't noticed any graphical glitches but I will try some lower resolutions and fullscreen mode and see if I can reproduce the problems.

I'm also experiencing the reported graphics glitches on OSX. Both the pre-packaged 1.0 OSX Humble Bundle version and the 1.05HF version with my own wine wrapper. The glitches start minimally at the beginning of the combat screen and get progressively worse until the game crashes. Saving/loading restarting etc do not seem to alleviate the issue.

Additionally, after redeeming the key on Steam I can't seem to get it running there. If I try to download Xenonauts it completes immediately and then complains about a missing executable when I try to run it. This issue has already been reported on the steam forums and these and it seems to occur for both linux and osx.

I get the scrambled graphics in both windowed, at 1680x1050, and fullscreen, at 1920x1200.

Edit: getting crashes coincident with graphics problems. Usually after I load a screen after a glitchy one.

I downloaded the first 1.0 version from Humble. Does it get updated automatically or is there a patch for me to upgrade it to 1.05? I have the "black boxes" error and there is no "autoresolve" option for air battles.

I have a Macbook air, version 10.9.3. Built summer 2013.

I was just playing an alien terror attack in an industrial map, trying to play through the bad graphics, and not only did the game crash a couple times but I got a Mac kernel panic or something and my whole computer crashed.

I can't find a crash log... where are they? (I'm sorta out of my depth using wine)

Auto Resolve is disabled on Mac and Linux.

Are there any plans to re-enable it in the final released version? I'd really like to use it (and I'd just as soon not boot my Mac into Windows to get that feature).

Also, can you give us any estimates on when the final Mac and Linux versions might be officially released? Not trying to be pushy, I'm just curious.

I've found that the Mac version of 1.05HF (available at Desura) is a lot more stable than the 1.0 Mac version (I got a ton of crashes on the 1.0 version), which is great. I'm hoping that the fonts can be cleaned up for the final release, though - again, they improved from 1.0 to 1.05HF, but they are still not very close to the Windows version.

I hope to have the latest build uploaded once I fix the launcher. I don't know if auto resolve will come back, it's never worked in WINE.

Great, thanks for the info. Please let us know in this thread if there's anything we can do to help.

Are you sure about that? It's been a long time, so I'm not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, autoresolve used to work without crash for me on Linux+Wine with V21 or early V22 or somewhen back then.

More info on the graphics: It really appears to be specific buildings causing the problem. It's correlated with multi-story buildings, but here's one from a terror attack in Berlin where only a single building was glitched: l8EI2V2.jpg

You can see several building image fragments floating around in strange places, and a chunk of the yellow car appearing again on the top. It happens in all level views, I just did level 2 to highlight the building. In denser urban environments these pieces are just everywhere.
