I managed to shoot down a light scout at the extreme range of my chinook, which was slightly outside of radar range. I got a message about loss of contact (the grammar in that message is not great) once my Condor moved away, but I chose "go to last known position".

When my chinook neared the end of it's 12 hour flight (hope those rotors were balanced well - a small vibe can be really wearing over such a long time) it detected the crashsite again:

The game detected it as a landed UFO that was travelling at 1500 km/hr.

It's not a crash site, it's a scout UFO doing a research mission on the ground. The traveling speeds are stil lbuggy.

The UFO detection is percentage based, so it's possible, that a UFO floats for 2-3 hours in your radar range without detecting it, then lands and then the radar spots it.

But matthew the dialogbox acctually says "UFO detected: crashsite-5" are you sure its a landed UFO? if so isnt the text displayed in the dialog box a bug ?

Yes, that is a bit odd. The UFO is clearly landed rather than shot down. Hmm. I wonder if the game is treating all landed UFOs as crashsites so we can initiate a recovery mission for landed UFOs as well?

I did actually shoot this down, but then lost it off radar once my interceptor left the area. Once I re-detected it by my chinook turning up it showed as a landed ufo called crashsite-5.
