mackohol
Hi, I have an issue with the latest update of the Steam version of Xenonauts using the native Linux build. The problem occurs seemingly at random during ground combat. What happens is that during the Alien turn, after a Alien takes some action like shooting or opening a door, the game will sometimes freeze. By freeze I mean the music keeps playing, can move cursor and click, but cannot move screen or interact with anything. Occasionally, right before the crash, strange things will occur during the players turn, for instance you cannot move anyone, you throw a grenade an nothing happens, or people do different actions then what you ordered. After the wierdness when you end the turn, during the next Alien turn (or maybe one or two later) the game crashes as described before. I find that avoiding the use of grenades (any types), rockets, and ground combat in general can allow you to get a bit through the game. But it always comes up eventually, and is a game-ending bug - Saving before the combat does not help - once you get to a combat that is going to crash, it seems it will crash every time, even if you load a save from before you were in combat. This is very sad for me as I was really getting into this game, and the WINE version was running fine - but now does not work when I try to load the other branch. I am happy that it is native now, but WHY IT NO WORK??? My PC runs linux mint 17.1, uname -a: Linux 3.13.0-37-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 22 21:28:38 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Attached are an offensive save and the backtrace. To reproduce, let the dropship land in london and play a few rounds. sometimes you get 2 or 3, sometimes it crashs on the first round. GizmoGomez
This sounds like the same kind of situation I experienced. Machine gunner blows up a parked car, creating fire and smoke, it's the alien's turn, the alien shoots at me, and it hangs.

Maybe will be helpful to devs - exactly the same issue i tried to describe for Mac native version (although i did more focus on random shooting - but not exploding grenades and inability to move a character happen as well): http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/13352-v-1-59-OSX-Ground-combat-random-characters-shoot
AaronKOG
I believed I'd identified the issue and am trying to get a new version out today (at least on steam). Stay tuned.
shpondary
I do confirm this. I have noticed that one CPU completely full of xenonauts during this situation. Seems like infinite loop somewhere.
