Open windows and cut through fences

Hey,

There's no way to open a window (say, to look through it, and to be able to vault through it) and to cut through a fence, is there?

U can press m to use melee attack to open windows. But don't know about fences.

There are no wire cutters. This was brought up a couple of times during development but it was considered to be a considerable expense for a severely limited-use item (only useful on industrial maps, and then only for a relatively small portion of those maps).

I agree with the wire-cutters being a very limited use item.

Thanks for letting me know that I can open windows with a melee attack. Though, even more than opening them, I would love to be able to close them. When they're all open, my Xenonauts are potential sitting ducks whenever they're inside buildings. Though I understand that that would also require the AI to know how to open and close them as well.

Still, would be nice.

Use the old Xcom tactic about fences.. high explosives!!!

Without looking at the current spectres I couldn't say, but windows used to be able to be set to openable and vaultable in the alpha/beta.

EDIT: However back then, if you shot through a window you still destroyed it.

Well, hovering the cursor over a window doesn't seem to give an option to close/open it.

This isn't really an issue with glass windows - they can be seen through all the time, and I don't mind smashing them to be able to vault through then. But, there are those windows in the middle east tileset or whatever it's called, that have those wooden covers over them - some are open, some are closed, and it would be nice if you could close them.

Sorry, I assumed you'd know what I meant by "spectre". You have to mod the windows directly to do that through the file which governs how the window will operate - the spectre.

I'm not a modder, but I see that there are a bunch of these spectre files. I guess I'll take a look in them. Do you know if the AI will know how to use the possibility to open and close windows, if it's possible at all?
