aajs
I have decided to take on the task of creating a new dropship for my mod. Wow that's a big task. I have located similar tiles for my dropship and can see where to create the walls, cockpit and roof lvl etc, however where do I create the floor. Has anybody created extra dropships that could share a few high level pointers?
kabill
Floor tiles are the same as all the others, although usually they're done on a tile-by-tile bases rather. To paint a floor, though, it has to be placed on layer 0, while all other parts of the dropship will need to be on layer 1. Also - just to check - do you realise you will have to place the submap for your new dropship on all of the maps, and that it won't work with community maps unless you place it on those too? Oh dear I did not realise that, I might drop it then as the community maps are too much of a sacrifice. Is there any way to hijack the valkyrie landing pads with a drop ship so you do not need to put dropship in other maps?
kabill
I don't think so, no. The Valkyrie still has a submap which must be placed on the map for it to be used. For what it's worth, it might be worth asking existing mappers whether they'd be willing to support it (I say 'existing mappers'. That more or less means me and Skitso at the moment!). It wouldn't actually be a lot of work (not with Skitso's pack anyway) and it's something that could be added to the maps without there having to be the drop-ship in game. In fact, what might be a good long term idea is if mappers include a few additional dropship submaps with their maps with a common name which can then be used by people who want to make new dropships. For example, if all maps were made with three additional dropships (called "ExtraDropship1", "ExtraDropship2" and "ExtraDropship3"), modders who wanted to add in a new dropship could simply add in a new one using one of the three extras. This wouldn't have any impact on people not using that mod, though, so there'd be no incompatibility issues.
Mikhail Ragulin
Although if one is overwriting an existing dropship, the submap issue is irrelevant?
kabill
Oh, yes, if you just want to overwrite an existing one, that's no trouble at all. I was assuming adding an extra one.
aajs
I love the ExtraDropship1 idea, I will put any dropship mods on hold until you have implemented it. And if not I will not bother.
