Chris
This is a request to the mod-making community: please consider making your mods (or parts of them) modular using the Modular System that llunak is working on. This system allows multiple mods to be loaded at the same time, even if they affect the same files! You can find the documentation and tutorials for this system here - the system seems a little complex at first glance, but I think it should be easy enough to understand when you start playing with it. http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/11638-Modular-mods-system-tutorial-and-examples http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/11433-Documentation-Modular-mods-systemThe reason why we are asking for you to do this is because we would like it to become an integral part of Xenonauts: Community Edition, and it it may also be vital for Steam Workshop support. We would like Xenonauts Community Edition to ship with a number of mods in it that can easily be activated using checkboxes, giving the player much more freedom to customise their game experience. For instance, all of these might be mods that could be included in the game and could be toggled on / off with a single click: Skitso's map pack Modular / destructible UFO hulls Selling items for profit Starting items must be purchased Mind Control disabled UFO invasion spawns more randomised That would make the game much more freeform. Most of those things already exist in mods, but some are integrated into larger mods and cannot be loaded up separately. If the creators of those (and all other) mods are able to split out the individual changes and integrate them into the new system they would effectively become new game options for people to enable as they are unlikely to conflict with one another. This should only really apply to things that tweak the original game, though - mods that try to replace the original game with a new experience (such as XNT) should instead be handled by Steam Workshop. We'll think more about exactly how that will work when we've got this all set up and working. Does that make sense? llunak's new system is a big improvement over what we had before so it is well worth taking the time to learn how to use it! kabill
That's where this went! I spotted it when it was first posted then I couldn't find it any more. I thought it had been deleted. For what it's worth, already on the case!
llunak
In case there are any problems with the system, as such something in the game not being moddable using it (mods should completely avoid overwriting game files), please report it in the documentation thread. Ixiohm
Chris, you should probably make this thread a sticky. Otherwise people will probably miss it.
squigoth
Might I suggest a $500,000,000.00 start up money check box. If you think about it if humanity was fighting an alien invasion why would money be a problem? Just an idea...
dpelectric
This will be fantastic!!! The ability to easily customize your game, without digging through the game files and/or downloading conflicting mods. That's what I loved about a similar game- UFO:ET Gold- which offered tons of customization choices with single clicks, thanks to the community modders. Chris, when you say X:CE will "ship" with such a feature, what exactly do you mean? Will this be offered on Steam as a separate entity? An add-on? A DLC?
