New character "gaming" faces/bodies

Thank you Jsleezy, and yes, your absolutelly right, they are slightly taller, this is due to the fact they have taller legs. I made a bit stupid mistake by starting the fems without keeping vanilla avatars in mind, and then made male figure to fit the vanilla mold. It should be fixable tought, but it is something I might fix later. Maybe adding army-boots for them too, like male ones have. This would allow people to use real fighter avatars, or avatars from here with your enchanced vanilla armors with the fems too, or just vanilla stuff, mixing things up as they wish.

Right now with the male stuff this should be the case, but with fems not, due to that silly mistake I did when I started this project.

But right now I'm just trying to breeze thru the rest of male armor variants, and then making the avatars.

Also I'm planning to check out that face-merger you hinted about, but I have high tedency to get side-strafed with my projects, not getting things done, so I will hold of testing it until I have done what I have in plans right now. I have time now to do this stuff, since I'm sick from work, but I can't say that week or two forward.

But hey, at least hes completely right. This is what women look like in gaming industry sadly. Though as criticism I'd have to complain about male soldier not having action hero pose. Because seriously, while you are right about women looking like that in gaming media, you haven't done enough good job with male soldier's pose. Face does fit though. If nothing else, you should add a gun to male soldier's picture. But yeah, I recommend that you take more inspiration from fps and other games with 30 something year old male white protagonists and make male soldier pose more like that. Otherwise I call bull on name of this mod if its just to make female soldiers pose differently.

Edit: Ah, noticed that on later images you gave the guys' same pose as female soldiers. Okay, thats hilarious so I approve that. Thanks for making the poses same even if its not common to see male characters pose like that in games! Nah let me fix that, thanks for making the pose same especially since thats not common!

That is ok, I don't ask or expect people to like what I'm doing, neither I can change theyr mind about it, and to be honest I don't care that much anymore.

The mod actually was about making fem-soldiers posing differently, and looking prettier, but now I'm expanding it to males too since people requested it. Besides that, the mod is what it is, it will brake some of the feeling and immersion/charm of the main game, but people have option to not use it, or edit it to theyr liking as much they want.

EDIT: Yeah, OP has some first iteration pics, I'm not going to bother updating it until things are getting ready.

Anyway, I'd probably be waving my pitchforks and torches if not for the fact it also applies to male soldiers :P That being an exaggeration of course, Skitso there has his feelings hurt apparently, but I honestly don't care that much. His mod isn't that offensive, but its(well, I guess this one is partly as well since it started out like that, but whatever) part of a trend I don't like. BTW, isn't that Jill Valentine? One soldier's face looks kinda like Kaidan from ME unless I'm mistaken. Are there other face references I haven't noticed?

They are all gaming faces. It is Jill, and Kaidan. I do explain this in earlier posts, and at some extend at OP. The characters will be "gaming" faces, I use the screenshots of various characters and just photoshop them so that they have a bit more "drawn" and unifyed look to go with. This is where the "silly" nature of the mod comes out.

Same goes for the armors, I use various screenshots of different gear and use them as base and photoshop them to something else. Like the upper part of the wolf armor is combination of 5 different armors, the helmet is combination of 3 separate helmets molded as one and edited + the visor I just made. And so on. I don't edit any of the models, I use screenshots of them and do all the editing at PS. It is still hell of a ammount of job to do that, make something coherent and unified that looks good and as intented. But just making clear I don't draw these myself, even tought that should be quite obvious anyway if one reads OP.

Ah, so THATS why its called "gaming" faces/bodies, because they are literally from other games. I thought it was to imitate general generic style common in many games <_<

Like, check all female soldier art in almost all multiplayer fpses and whatsnot. They aren't really far off from that. Pose might not be as blatant, but armor is pretty much in same style. Which is understandable since you just said you edited them from different armors from other games, I at first thought they were completely original except for the faces. I guess i should pay more attention

Indeed. But as you can see they aren't designed to be armors from other games, but armors from Xenonauts, so that is where the overall look/design for them come. Atleast that is what I hope the the last result is. With some freedom ofcourse, but with the comparison pics I have put out you can see I went more with the "let's make it look like this", rather than "these will look something like it".

Jackal, Buzzard, and Wolf will be almost identical for both genders in terms of design too. Jackal atm is, with the exception of the lower body part. I had it first same way as fems, but it looked really stupid, so I went with the better look there.

With the exception of the basic armor for obvious reasons. I wanted jumpsuit for them at the start, I guess I wanted to go for more original UFO:EU look, since very first version I had was greyish too, but it changed towards Xeno look eventually. I went for similar male look for the males as I got for the females, but the style of the fems also went to the direction of the males in result.

Just to give example, for most obvious and biggest example, this is what the whole jumpsuit of the fems is based of:

You can see it is the same thing, but isn't anymore. That is the same thing with all the armors. It isn't just pick a thing, cut it, and add it. The PS file for the fem armors is something like 200+ layers atm, and about 100mb in size already. So that is that, hopefully this is quite clear now.

No current plans for full high-tier armors, they show no body shape, or skin/faces. I'm using and enjoying Jsleezys work for them currently, as propably most of you already are too.

I will do male variants of Wolf and Buzzard (maybe optional helmet for basic armor too, similar as vanilla), then do rest of the heads, and edit existing ones to fit the new armors, Xenopedia entries and such, and hopefully then release. After that possible other stuff like more original "incognito" faces with the facegen idea Jsleezy provided, or something else.

EDIT:

One question I forgot to ask before, if Jsleezy or someone can answer to it. How does the vanilla game use portraits? Males have ton load more than females, customs are backers I pressume, but I'm not sure if I have even seen any of them in-game. Also nordic seems to be dominant, asia and such have only 3 portraits each, will the game use one more if added to the files, or is it all pre-set in some way?

You won't miss anything if you don't follow this thread, unless you want to provide feedback. If/once this gets released, it will pop up in the Completed Game Modifications section. And indeed, I'm working on this atm.

And yeah, the height difference kicks in here quite obvious, altought the head will propably be higher for the males once I get the head position figured out, or I will change the head females position lower for this armor, so it shouldn't be this bad then. I don't know, I'll see how it turns out, if needs to be, I will rework the legs of fems. It should be fixed just by making them shorter below knee, which should be quick fix if I would add knee pds for the basic armor too, just like men have.

I made a quick test, and I think we can agree just editing the legs below knees looks a tad weird:

I would have to go and edit all armor variants below weist to make it look proper, so for now I will scrap that idea, kinda eager to to try finish this at some point, changes can be implemented later too if necessary. So you can expect height difference to stay, but you should be looking one at a time, so it shouldn't be that obvious.

Can't wait til your done with this it all Looks amazing and better after each update but the males left ankle in the first picture and right ankle in the others looks kinda of weird like he is standing on the side of his foot and why does the male have his hands behind his back like he has handcuffs on? I was in the Marine corp and closest representation I can think of is standing at ease that would be tough to do with all that gear on in real life I can see them doing that with the basic gear but not the heavy gear is that what they are doing or is that an Anime inspired stance? If it is a military at ease stance maybe you can make the males arm stick out more so it doesn't look like he is handcuffed and adapt the leg and ankle stances more like this

Derekash, yes, the other ankle is effed up right now, I just haven't bothered to fix it yet. I will later tought. That is a quick fix, that is why I haven't done it yet if that makes sense.

For the stance, when I started doing this, I was just going to do quick custom fem-body, and I wasn't going to bother figuring out how the hand skin-variations work at the time. So I just hid the hand. For consistency, and time, I made males to use almost same pose, they came as aftertought, so that is that. I won't be changing it, since that would not be quick change, and right now I don't wanna touch the armors much anymore. I wanted to finish them quite quick, so I can start playing again while doing this. Now that the armors are finished, I can just do/re-work faces here and there and test them while I play.

That is tought, I'm not saying I won't make changes to this stuff the future, but right now it is what it is.
