Pinetree
I'll see if I can add the Turks, Greeks and French by the end of the week. Then I'll test each nation separately to see if I've missed any special characters and it'll be good to go. ...and the Belgians, mustn't forget the Belgians... ResFu
I see that you introduce many new names, would you like to join my names and units of Polish origin? I don't impose myself, just ask. Sorry for horrible language

ResFu
Well i corrected those non polish names and those which was incorrect (minor spelling mistakes) also added around 20 names, two other units and experience for units (operation Danube, december 1970 also known as a massacre on the Coast). How to attach .txt file? Or else, give me your mail and I'll send you the file.

Gorlom
Out of curiosity pinetree: where do you get to find all those names?
Ziggarius
I would guess from Censuses. It's where a lot of online "baby name" sites track trends in names, both past and present.
Pinetree
Yeah, baby name sites were a good source for first names. My main source was the name dictionary at http://www.gaminggeeks.org/Resources/KateMonk/. This is where I got most of my surnames.
Nightfire
So these soldiers come with experience and are the best of the best from the nations supporting the Xenonauts Organization? I certainly hope not. If that's the case, I do hope they'll still shoot for sh*t when going against alien terror. I rather have rookie seeds to plant them myself and watch them grow to become commando trees. If you go with giving our soldiers past experience, do it to the few that would have good stats. Like in X-COM I always separated the good reaction and firing accuracy stat soldiers from the rest of the crew. You can give those bad boys the green beret status. Gorlom
Nightfire they are going to be the best of the best from a backstory perspective. From a gameplay perspective they are going to be wussy little rookies that can't hit a barn from the inside untill they get some field experience... ok possibly not that bad but they arent going to be super soldiers vs aliens just because they have been in a few human wars. If you look at it from a story perspective why would the organization whose whole purpose is to protect the world not get the best of the best? Why would you send rookies that dont even know which end of the gun to point at the enemy?
Gauddlike
If you look at it from a story perspective why would the organization whose whole purpose is to protect the world not get the best of the best? Why would you send rookies that dont even know which end of the gun to point at the enemy? Because they are cheaper and wouldn't realise that being handed 20 grenades and being told to go stand by that alien reactor for a few minutes isn't a standard tactic? IceVamp
Nice collection of names there. Too bad the game doesn't support our (Norwegians) fancy three extra letters since a lot of those names need them. Would be cool if there was a middle name thing as well. We go completely nuts with extra names up here. Especially the proper Sami. It's like Nils Mattis Ante Sara Nils Nilsen.
Pinetree
Yeah, changing all the special characters to english ones was probably the most time-consuming part of putting this together. I have kept copies of all the names in their original forms so if special characters are eventually supported I'll be able to swap fairly easily. winterwolves
Ok, so I feel pretty dumb having to ask, as no one else seems to need to, but: How do I actually incorporate your mod into the game?
The New Romance
Ok, so I feel pretty dumb having to ask, as no one else seems to need to, but:How do I actually incorporate your mod into the game? I had that problem, too. Just extract the archive and put the soldiernames and strings files into the Xenonauts folder, to overwrite the old soldiernames and strings files. Gauddlike
Keeping your original files backed up is always a good idea though.
The New Romance
Keeping your original files backed up is always a good idea though. I guess you can use Desura's "verify" function, if something goes wrong. I believe it will replace modded files.
Gauddlike
I guess you can use Desura's "verify" function, if something goes wrong. I believe it will replace modded files. Yeah but that replaces all changes you might have made not just the most recent. Good if you are only using this mod, not so good if you are tweaking weapon values or adding new towns to the geoscape etc.
