  1. Hi all, i have a small sugestion i would love to see implemented. Is it possible to introduce modular speed for GC like in the original game? After some playthrough i find the movement in GC really slow and i would like to play in a quicker version. If possible being able to modify soldiers movement speed, alien movement speed and bullets speed in GC would be awesome. Thanks for your work

  3. HI so i tried what you told me and everything went well in gc editor but when i tried to quit the game the game crashed and now my save file is broken. It blocks the game when i try to launch it. Do you have any clue as to what i could do to salvage it?
  4. ll you really dont get the meaning of my posts so i think i will stop answering to you. What you state is false . Even if base placement is not that varied research and manufacture is very diverse in the game. So you are resuming the whole game to base placement which basically is doing the same as the game designers the OP spoke about. Which is oversimplification. So the snake has bitten its tail the loop is closed i think it is time to close this discussion.
  5. Thx a lot for the quick answer i ll try it tonight. Too bad i have to autowin the mission i was in a bad spot. Two of my soldiers just had been killed by an alpha reaper. Well better than having to restart i think.
  6. Not true on normal difficulty you can win with suboptimal base placement and less than 3 bases even if you only airstrike the crashsites. (you still have to get one to do the research) Basically that is what i like in games learning the hard way how to win the game not getting an easy free win game . Which i agree is only my point of view and not the mainstream view. I actually dont care about loosing a game as long as i have fun playing it. What is important about a game for you mate Having fun playing it or winning it? You know if the game was going to be played on earth i dont see how you would not get optimal base placement. Seriously it is inherent that mid-east is a strategic military point as cuba is you cant change this. Maybe if you tell some modder to create a new earth with same size countries in different positions then sevreal other bases placement would then be possible. That said i dont say that the game is perfect and i actually posted to kabill that i agreed with him on how base placement dont give you that much choice. To this point i can say that we have a fundamentally different point of view so we cant basically agree. What seems to be what you search in a game is what i tend to avoid . So peace and have fun playing. Which actually is what matters.
  7. Hi, i had a bug the other day when i shot two zombies with my tank. It seems like it spawned 4 reapers instead of 2. One of which i coulnt kill (i assume the other one is the same but i focused only one). The problem is during the alien turn the first reaper moves one step and then blocks the game not moving anymore. And as i play in iron mode it actually blocked completly my playthrough. Does anyone know a way to go around it pls? I was just at then end of the game before the endgame mission... too bad.
  8. Well you made your point there and i have to agree with you on base placement. But still i think geoscope in xenonauts gives you more strategic choices than in Xcom EU the combination between research air combat and the different weapons armor you can build makes it so you can follow different paths to victory. Sure there is one best way to achieve it but in what game isnt there a best way? By the way your analysis of depth is quite accurate and well written. That said when Xcom EU went out i had a lot of fun playing the game. But i tried a second run of it and i couldnt find the motivation to finish. Maybe if it had had a bit more geoscope complexity i would have gone through it again. PS to Trashman : CHESS is actually a very old simulation of strategic war. So yes it is a simulation.
  9. I think you miss the point there. What being able to place the base do is giving you the chance to fail. Since when did video games become games that win the game for you? In a senario in which you do not know the game and you start in your country or whatever fool choice you do it will get you a UNIQUE playthrough which might be hard and end in defeat but will still be pleasent cause there is challenge and you play a game you like. FIRAXIS made their game so you cant go the wrong way. And that is dumbing down. Cause they do the optimisation for you. The first time you play you dont lean on your keyboard and think : well where would it make more sense to put this base. And this goes for almost all the other matters of the geoscope. Loosing isnt a bad thing and especially not planning and thinking so why remove it from players? Even if the planning/thinking is quite straightforward. Hell, planning and thinking is what strategy gamers are after. edit: by the way not all companies are going the easy way. just look at Dark Souls the game sold really well and it is based on difficulty complexity. Maybe with time we will have more companies specialised in complex and difficult games as there is clearly a huge demand for them.
  10. Well you know that is exactly what people call simplification. Which is what people are talking in this thread, not fun factor. Firaxis game was fun. But game complexity is not the same. In Xcom EU devs took out the big choices you have to make from you to concentrate on GC so basically if you do well in GC it s really really hard to loose (not to say impossible, or arbitrary in the higher game difficulties but not choice driven). Which creats a game WAY less complex than the original or xenonauts. Moreover on the subject of enemy procs i dont know why they choosed this method. It is one of the big let downs for me. I wonder why they did it tis way? Simpler to implement or Simpler for the player to predict ennemy position? Seriously where did they find this weird spawn idea? edit: and by the way i dont like your tone insulting other posters with mr know it all and the likes. Dosent speak well of you.
  11. Yep, Was very surprised by this also. The worst part is your soldier getting a big TU penality for only carrying the weapon.... Appart for breaking in UFOs and wreaking rooms in bases i dont see the point of this weapon. A big let down for what is supposed to be the best weapon in the game. And i lost half my squad to get the sigularity core...
  12. Having a soldier on high ground also boosts his sight range. So having someone up there even if he cant shoot can help you spot aliens better and sooner which in itself is a BIG advantage.
  13. Hi guys, i have a small question for the modders. More and more i find the camera focusing on flying soldiers with santinel battle suit really bothersome. As it consistantly changes the level of the map during movment. And because of that i really have a hard time moving several soldiers at the same time. Making my play speed in GC much slower once i get those armors. Would it somehow be possible to prevent the camera doing this? Thanks a lot in advance
  14. I am not saying the player is not to blame about losses. I am just saying that at some point in the game small mistakes are paid hard for. You can be careful as hell. you still have to breach te UFO. If an alpha reapers waits for the right time to go out you cant do anything about it. Same for a casean or a preator mind controlling one of your best soldier. And as soon as you have lost 2 or 3 soldiers things get very very difficulf. What i am trying to tell you is if you choose the right difficulty GC will provide a challenge. Meaning you have to be very aware of what you do. One mistake and you loose your troops. Which is not what i call a very manageable situation but more like a very tense situation. ps: i dont really see the difference between easy and litle risk by the way
  15. Actually it depends on how your soldier was killed. If your soldier gets an overkill (like when you see aliens being completly blown by a grenade) you will loose all of his equipment. If they are killed ''only'' by a bullet and you still see their copse you will get the stuff back. ps: by the way when you overkill an alien you wont get his stuff either. Meaning you will get less money at the end of the mission.
