Submariner

I have played XCOM and a useful feature during battles is the ability to pan the camera in 90 degree increments. This often makes it easier to see things. I did not find a pan camera feature described in the rule book or key options. Does this ability exist in the game? If not, how does one better see aliens that are sometimes blocked by walls, fences, etc. because the camera is not in the best position?
