  1. Xenosquirrels, activate! radister, I know it can also mean a place to keep items, of course. But store has two meanings that could both be used in the context of the game. That's why I think it's a worse choice of a word than others that are less ambiguous.
  2. RE: UI Am I the only one who is a bit confused with the name "Stores" for all the items you have in your base? Stores sounds like a place to buy something (shops) to me. Wouldn't "storage", "warehouse", "armory", "munitions" or "inventory" be better?
  3. As beta is getting closer, I think you should update the websites a bit. http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/ has a news article from late 2011 on the front page At least make a news article that says all Xenonauts activity is now found on Xenonauts.com http://www.xenonauts.com is otherwise up to date, but you've forgotten to update the copyright text in the past 2 years .. it still says 2011
  4. This is a bit off topic, but talking about the geoscape, have you considered making the geoscape light up in night time, like in the picture here: ( http://www.masterresource.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/earth_night.jpg )? It is kind of strange that the world is pitch black at night.. would add a nice flavour and feeling of attention to detail ..
  5. One thing that you didn't mention in your Less good things list (I didn't read replies) that bothered me A LOT, was that at higher difficulty levels the game is all about luck. The aliens get such big accuracy and damage boosts that if you aren't able to kill them before they get to open fire, you start losing soldiers immediately. At the same time, you get accuracy penalties (or the accuracy is so low to begin with; I didn't play on normal difficulty), that most of your shots are in the 25-75 range, causing a lot of misses and lucky hits. To me it really didn't feel like I was playing good when I cleaned a supposedly difficult UFO; I felt lucky. Likewise, I didn't feel like I deserved to lose a few of my units in many occasions; I just unfairly missed too many shots in a row and the aliens proceeded to crit me. It is partly related to what you said about not being able to flank due to fear of discovery. I want to be consistently rewarded from playing well. I don't want to have the difficulty level ramped up on me cause to increase the amount of chance. They could've just added a lot of more hit points to all enemies, or increased the number of aliens in all encounters instead of messing with aim & damage.
  6. Well this is how strong willed I am .. after cancelling the preorder yesterday, I now re-ordered it after a friend who is already playing convinced me that the actual game is pretty damn good.
  7. I think I will, good idea. I don't mind a game being easy, but I really like to play the way I want with more degrees of freedom. I'm sure the game is really good in design value and is extremely fun for a lot of people. But I think Xenonauts will fit me better. It's always nice to have a game like XCOM available for play later. And who knows, maybe there is a mod in the future that make it an absolute must for me.
  8. I just cancelled my XCOM:EU preorder as well after trying the demo and reading the cons from a few reviews. I realized that it's too streamlined for me to truly enjoy the game. My future UFO gaming experience rests on Xenonauts now!
  9. I just cancelled my XCOM: Enemy Unknown preorder as I tried the demo and read a few reviews. I realized it is much too streamilined to be satisfactory for me. It's all about you guys now, no pressure!
  10. You show very, very little respect for the title and the developer. You fill your posts with completely unnecessary extra jabs at Chris & Goldhawk, like the part in brackets here: "Therefore, if Chris has good business sense (which admittedly he has not shown recently), he will try to minimize the use of KS funds towards new features and pocket the rest." There are a lot of similar examples available all over this thread. Even worse is your assumption that the developer would grab the money and run, not properly finishing a game they have developed for multiple years. That kind of utter lack of respect is just something I can't stand. However I will not pretend not to agree with you on most parts regarding how the kickstarter was handled. I think the reward tiers could use an improvement as well. Those criticisms are not the part I have an issue with, though I see no point rubbing it in as it's damage that's already been done.
  11. You're way beyond healthy skepticism. You write in a very disrespectful and condescending manner to the lead developer, which makes me surprised that I'm the only one being openly hostile to you here. I consider you much more out of line than my simple post calling you out. I'll try to stay out of this topic to avoid getting into trouble though.
  12. What an ass. Yes, it's an excellent idea to pocket the puny 50k or whatever, screw over the community and become one of the most hated indie developers of all time. Sure does make good business sense for the long run. Jesus.
  13. Chris, with mainstream interest comes all the downsides. Welcome to the limelight. It's a different world for you now.
  14. Yep I think the price points for the tiers are set too low across the board. $50 for a boxed deluxe edition copy is less than I'd ask, since there is supposed to be no boxed version at all. I'd go for 60-75 if it includes all the other rewards. Then again I wouldn't even offer a cheap "normal" boxed version at all. I'd only offer a premium collector's edition one with something actually special in it and put the price tag way higher.
