Ogilvy the Astronomer
Are we trying to turn X-COM into an RPG? I hope not! But more variety in missions and attachment to your soldiers is surely a good thing. But as you suggest, without it veering into RPG. Although the game does have RPG elements, such as soldiers "levelling up". So I wouldn't dismiss RPG ideas too readily, so long as they add to the game and don't lose its focus. Just my opinion, of course. Edited May 12, 2012 by Ogilvy the Astronomer
Colcut
I personally would love to see additional tilesets and additional mission types. Additional aliens - awesome but hard to do Mission types : Alien probe located - see what they are looking for scientist discovered x tech/mineral/stuff - heavy alien presence I dont know if its been suggested, but i would love to see additional tech stuff and base types Tech stuff. As in completely new stuff not in xcom games. im not sure what yet, one thing that bugged me about UFO-EX was the fact they re-hashed the same things over and over. E.g Plasma looked exactly like Laser but it was green. The next stage was the same but dif coloured etc. E.g Shields, patrol drones (Hellfire UAV), improved radar (yes thats probably planned), Base transfer portals (transfers items immediately) etc. Missiles that do no damage but affect alien accuracy/speed. Missiles with a low (1/4 ??) success chance of downing a ufo (say they kill the engine or disrupt flight controls) however the ufo suffers minimal damage and the occupants are PISSED. Base types - Drone base, Support base (research/eng), Radar outpost, Refueling base (either in flight, over a set area OR a quick land and refuel) Female soldiers - in uniform they aint that much different than male soldiers Mac/linux port. If you will make the money back in sales, do it, if you wont its not viable. If the game works in a windows emulator (Wine is it ?) may not be worth the effort Friendly npcs, the more types the better though i find there largely useless and in the way Edited May 12, 2012 by Colcut new idea
stx
Are we trying to turn X-COM into an RPG? No, just bonus objectives. Even in the original XCOM sometimes a popup window reported that "XCOM Agents have located a base in (....)". It's just an idea, nothing more. Arturius
Also I would add more rather exotic research options like: Alien Medicine - once researched shortens wounded soldiers healing by 25% OR allows to build advanced medibay Enriched Fuel - gives Chinooks 20% more operational range Advanced Traning - gives an option to build advanced training facility where you can choose what attribute your soldiers improve
Gorzahg
One thing I think has been forgotten is the poor old motion scanner.
thothkins
the motion scanner was mentioned in one of Chris' "what we'll do with $50k. It was just underneath "blow $20k on the ponies"
Corporal Hicks
More mission types: defend military bases and hospitals; protect VIPs; escort VIPs to exfiltration area (VIPs could be player-controlled to avoid AI issues); plant bomb; destroy alien device; assassinate alien commander; eliminate alien cultists (humans working for the aliens); hold out against waves of alien attackers; rescue downed pilot (not necessarily your own); investigate reported alien anomaly. The more the better, basically.Secondary objectives that appear only when revealed mid-mission: you find a wounded civilian and need a Xenonaut to pick him up and carry him back to the chopper; retrieve information local agents have compiled about aliens; destroy alien mind-control device causing humans to fight you (once destroyed the humans could turn into allies). Again, the more the better. Would really add to replayability. More variety in friendly NPCs: armed civilians, police, army, Men in Black-style government agents. Vehicle operators can escape: if a vehicle is destroyed, there's a chance the operator could survive. He’s only got basic armour and a handgun, but if he lasts the level then your point reduction isn’t quite so severe +10000000000000000 I would back the project again with more US$30 for this! kmdcomp
I agree with not leveling vehicles. Using them is a trade off of increased durability and firepower, but they can keep your soldiers from increasing their stats if allowed to do too much of the work. I love the military terror mission idea. The expanded mission objectives also sounds great.

Chris
Right, just drafting up a final list now. Some good ideas here. Thanks for the suggestions.
flashman
Goodluck with setting up the poll. Hopefully you get enough to add all options
Gorlom
Crossing fingers for WACO type farms with armed mindcontrolled civilians (that you have to incapacitate without killing, while hunting down the aliens and their on site mindcontrol unit) gets put on the voteing list. alexey7891
i knew some time about this project but only now i got to see that you guys really are the true succesor to x-com fantastic work guys just briliant ,i m only 24 but one of my first games was x-com ufo defense and terror from the deep from some pirate floppy disk when i wasa kiddo ,since then al lthe wanna be x-com s failed so hard all of them till now ,you guys will succed no doubt about it ...played the demo and none of the other wanna be x-com s felt like you re game ,it s on the right track ,i m buyying this game because it deserves to be bought!not like the other aaa titles on the market that just have eye candy but no strategy no tactic no nothing...mindless popamole,oh and honestly i thought firaxis will make a great x-com but theyr x-com will fail ,you re game is the only one that feels like the KING X-COM,
flashman
So when does the Poll close? 24hrs 48?
FranTorres
I like the idea of having objectives on civilian terror missions, would it be hard to implement an option to make... let's say, certain civilian to follow your instructions while he's near your soldiers? It will be great to be able to have certain control to at least, lead that civilian to safety. (Kinda like Counter-Strike when you pressed the action button on scientist to make them follow you). Other than that, you already have implemented tilesets, aliens, leveling for vehics sounds stupid (sorry for the language). So... well, I would rather have a challenging AI, some aliens hiding in places waiting for you to fall the trap, or throwing grenades at the last tile where you were seen, or using civilians as shields. Definitely, I would vote for a even more challenging AI.
xcom
I would like the option to reserve TUs for kneeling and an option to auto-kneel. Also more mission objectives and other tiles/terrains mainly. I didn't read all posts but i like the majority of the suggestions that i saw.
Lodium
The problem for the boxed copies is I don't even know where to start looking to get them produced... This is only a sugestion. If you have a good computer, a good printer, a drawing program, a cd/dvd burner, a cd/dvd program (Nero is great) and a great artist who can make artwork you can produce most of this yourself. There are printable CD,S and DVD,S on the market. Only thing im a bit unsure of is the boxes themself if youre thinking of Old school pc boxes. When it comes to standard DVD covers and CD covers you coud buy empty cases too. For referances il link to this site : http://www.supermediastore.com/article/u/what-is-thermal-inkjet-printing-how-to-print-dvd Also, never new about this before i saw the kickstarter. Gonna pledge as soon as i got my paycheck. Edited May 12, 2012 by Lodium
Kilrathi
For whatever it's worth, I googled videogame boxes and found some people who'll do it. Obviously no idea about rates/terms/quality/etc., but options are out there - here are some ones I found on Google. http://www.boxprintingcompany.com/Game_Box_Packaging.htm http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/board-game-box-printing.html http://www.valueboxprinting.com/computer-games-boxes/ http://businessimageprinting.com/Solutions/Game_Packaging_Solutions.htm Some claim to be able to print for less than a dollar, albeit it with a 1000 unit minimum (and who knows what you get for your $0.25 box and if color/pictures/etc., rapidly get you up to over $1-2/box, which obviously changes the economics). Happy to make some calls on Monday if the survey indicates enough interest.
thothkins
Is there room for a thought that certain boxes made be made larger, to insert more goodies at a higher donation price? I'm not saying that we need a Caesian head with a 4Gb USB stick in it (holding your memories as it's just mind controlled you) But, just while it's in the thinking stages... nice hardback art book... Kilrathi
I don't know much about boxes beyond the googles but given that it seems like the minimum print run would be the biggest issue (since printing 1000 boxes to sell 100 of them makes for weird economics), so I'm guessing that printing one standard size box would be the most cost-effective... then your USB stick or keychain could be put into the mailer box along with the game box. thothkins
I'd really think it's something you'd not want to get carried away with. Ordering 1000 Chinook shaped boxes, could leave you with 600 Chinook shaped boxes.. and you've only got so many shoes to put in the leftover ones after all... To be honest, IF were talking about standard old school pc boxes there shoud be more than enough room for a USB stick At least most of my older games have space to spare with the exceptions of games with monster manuals. In my opinion i woud much rather have the game even in digital format than not at all allthough it woud be nice with a physical copy. Question : Will the Music/game ost be avaible later for higher pledges as downloadabal content/bonus? Edited May 12, 2012 by Lodium

Everything for $30 is given to higher tiers- Chris just says Premium pre-order + on them It includes a spangly gold forum medal, a digital copy of the Xenonauts soundtrack, official desktop wallpapers, plus a lengthy digital write-up of our development diary on release.
