  1. One more kind of strange one: Sorcery! ( http://www.inklestudios.com/sorcery ) Definitely retro, it's based on an adventure gamebook from the 80's. You do need an IOS device to play. Strange because you will have a hard-time figuring out whether this is a RPG video game, interactive fiction, or choose-your-own-adventure. I think it breaks new ground by occupying some strange space in the middle. I had a really great time with the first one, and even played it all the way through 4 times, just to explore the different possibilities. The writing is great, the balance/game play is excellent, the music and visuals are immersive... it is kind of a little known gem, in my opinion. Keep an eye on the creators, Inckle and Jon Ingold, I think they're going to make incredible things...
  2. Quadradius. Not sure if it really qualifies as retro styled, but the tag line is: 3D Space Checkers on Crack... "A competitive game of skill, chance, strategy and bluffing. Mimicking a board game, this turn-based game is for 1 to 6 people on a three dimensional grid." Really great little strategy experience, with lots of opportunities for unexpected comebacks and turnarounds. Probably one of the best game experiences I've ever had. Don't judge it by the AI in the tutorial, just jump in and play against real people
  3. Just wanted to bump this up a bit and second Orumo's recommendation of Neo Scavenger... really great little turn-based retro survival strategy game... unique blend of game elements and lots of fun... (its like a mix of fallout 2, day-z, nethack, minecraft, with some adventure elements thrown in)... damned difficult at first too... check it out, you can even play it right from your browser: http://www.bluebottlegames.com/main/node/21
  4. Got same problem. Just in case you're not in the loop, there are 210 new maps you can install from here: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/2634-201-levels-for-the-alpha (some of them also have the stairs issue).
  5. What if the guy in the Hunter panics on landing and decides to get out first anyway?
  6. 14.1 through Desura - Quick Battle is definitely weird but I think it works... It looks like its starting a Full Game, then you get a downed UFO, you check it out and its immediately a Terror Attack. You beat it and then you get a "This is the end of the Alpha Game..." screen. Something along those lines. Pretty sure it does this fairly consistently for me. EDIT: scrap some of that stuff about the UFO... It's probably more like Gauddlike described below, you click the base and then you get the terror alert.
  7. No screenshots (will grab some in future), from V14.1 White industrial van, soldier can walk over it making it look like he's on top of it. Same concrete divider issues as described above. Very rare: house in industrial map not rendering a few wall tiles Rare: a few warehouse wall tiles in industrial map not rendering Other than that it's actually been pretty good. I've been playing the heck out of it past 48 hours.
  8. I don't think this is due to your map... I'm having the same problem on the default maps... It only happens sometimes. I believe whenever its nighttime, but I can't confirm that 100%. (Current Build, V14.1)
  9. Have you tried setting the xenonauts.exe process affinity to "high" with the task manager? I'm pretty sure this helped me. I also close everything I can, and temporarily disable my wifi connection and firewall (don't need a firewall if the internet's off), and it seems to help. I'm running it on a rather puny netbook but for the most part its not too bad.
  10. Had the same problem and eventually found the same solution. This also fixed the problem of having only a few screen resolutions to choose from. Build: V14.1 My graphics drivers: Mobile IntelĀ® 945 Chipset (For Intel Integrated Graphics Accelerator) My Laptop: ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU
