  1. Anthony, like I said in my opening post, the released date is not set. It depends on our own free time and whether we use it to play Xenonauts or code for OpenXcom
  2. Hello Chris, thanks for your reply. About copyright, note that our download does not contain any copyrighted material, it contains a binary which is compiled with our own source code. This is a big difference to other remakes. You can even see it as a "patch" if you will... But nevertheless there is a grey area, especially about the registred trademark xcom which is used in our name. We have of course contacted the original copyright holders, so far without response. And even if they send us a cease and desist letter, there is not much lost. Development will continue, only in a darker and better hidden place
  3. In the mindset of Open Transport Tycoon or Corsix's Theme Hospital, SupSuper started the development on the opensource remake of the original X-Com and TFTD about 3 years ago. I joined somewhere on the way to help him with the battlescape part. We both have our busy lives, but still we managed to get to a point to see light at the end of the tunnel. OpenXCom does not come with graphics or sounds, it uses the graphics and most data from the original game, which you have to own or buy. So what will be the advantage of OpenXCom over the original game then? First: it's open source and platform independent, so it has the advantages of being open source and platform independent. Second: It comes with fixes for the annoying bugs and limitations and the potential of implementing exciting features like higher resolutions and both visual as functional improvements. Third: it is programmed in a way that is open for creative people (not developers) to invent all kind of mods. This goes from tweaking item stats to creating a totally new alien race. Before you get too excited, beware it is still in development and a release date is not really set. If you are still interested you can watch some video's here: [video=youtube;Nlveh5oM9gw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlveh5oM9gw [video=youtube;mNPtFA4ZArA]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNPtFA4ZArA Or just try it for yourself, on our website http://openxcom.org/index.php/downloads/ you either download the stable 0.3 or the latest Windows development build of version 0.4, which is soon to be released. 0.4 includes research, manufacture, tanks, medikits, motion sensor, laser weapons and a lot more. 4. www.xcom.com/enemyunknown Very excited ... I am. "It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM," said Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games. "We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game" I think I"ve heard that before.
